I had the feeble she-wolf’s eyes looking up at me with intrigue. She had been trying so hard to sound confident. Ballsy. It was almost laughable. This she-wolf was neither of those things. There was nothing self-assured about this little thing. She looked like she would jump at her own shadow. I smirked at the idea.

“Are you laughing at me?” She asked, a hint of defiance in her tone. “Considering you are wanting me to help you, you seem to have an odd way of gaining favor.”

I once again found myself unable to resist the urge to smirk, even a small chuckle slipped out, which caused a flicker of irritation to burn within her bright blue eyes. Okay, so there was some emotion other than fear hidden inside of her somewhere, I pondered.

‘Stop being an ass.’ My wolf warned. ‘We are here for a reason, and she may well be the key to helping.’

My shoulders sagged. My wolf was right. There was me enjoying the teasing a little too much. Though I have no clue where th

The moment the door had closed, my Dad’s gaze had turned upon me. Fear and dread had me frozen to the spot, despite knowing I would be better off running. I had nothing within me to fight. My wolf seemingly lost in time somewhere. The wolfsbane gradually wearing off, but not to the extent my wolf was able to come through to help me. I was fearful that the long-term exposure may have her gone forever...Hearing my Dad say those things to Alpha Carter and his friends had stung to the core. Anyone listening would believe he cared for me. I was his daughter after all. And the way he implied it, a very much wanted one. Only I knew differently. And as his eyes burned through me now it was clear how little he cared…“You fucking fool.” He hissed. “Bringing them here.”I shook my head. “I didn’t…” I stuttered, desperate to prove to him that he had misunderstood. I had not asked them to come here. I still had

I stepped away from the door of Beta Kian’s home with the critical eyes of my friends watching me. But my mind was not upon their potential thoughts, but the girl that stayed behind within that house. Was she safe? He had stated he never laid a hand on her to harm her, but I sensed her fear. Something did not add up…“Fucking hell Carter, you need to reign in your temper, or you are going to start something we do not need.” Hudson snapped, as he began to walk away, Sonny following not far behind. I was torn between following my friends in a bid to defend myself, or loitering near the house to see if I could hear anything else that may give me more clues to the secrets hidden there…‘You know you should leave.’ Draven warned.Wow, even my wolf was playing the safe card. Surely he should want to protect the girl? He was an Alpha after all... I shook my head in disbelief, but began to walk, soon catching up with my friend

The moment my father opened the door to the visiting Alpha, I knew there was going to be trouble. My father was being the ass that he so often could be. Defensive as ever, knowing he was incredibly close to having been caught. But hearing the Alpha question him took me by surprise.“I don’t know, is there something we can help with? Because it certainly sounded to me like we were disturbing something as we approached.” His words shook me to the core. Because not only did they tell me he had heard what had been happening in my home, but the way in which he responded told me he may even be leaning toward attempting to defend me. Or was I imagining that? I tried hard to reason with myself that a man such as him would never defend me…But the icy cold glare of my father darted between Alpha Carter and his men, before settling upon me. ‘See what you have done?’ He demanded through our link. ‘You will be sorry…’

I stalked off in the direction of Mari’s family home, or what they had tried to tell me had been her home. I knew it was the Beta’s home, but hers? I was still not convinced. I had left her there, so I assumed she would still be there doing what she had referred to as her chores. Like she was some weak-ass omega, or a naughty little school girl. Something was still not adding up, but I was not about to attempt to analyze it, as I needed the girl’s help. I just needed to find her, and then convince her...I did not expect Hudson and Sonny to follow me, but the sound of their footsteps alongside mine moments after I had walked away made me realize my friends had decided to take this leap of faith with me. I turned to Sonny on my left side, and he offered me a lob-sided grin, with a slight shrug. “Got nothing better to do, have we?” He said in explanation, and I could not help but smile. I was glad they were coming with me, they had a better way wit

Chores were all but completed, and just as I tended to the food within the slow cooker for dinner, the front door slammed. My heart dropped. The only person who slammed the door like that was him. I thought he had left to continue with his duties for the day. I thought I may be able to have some peace. But within seconds that familiar stench hit me to confirm my fears... he had returned. My heart pounded within my chest. I had duties I needed to tend to, and this time they were not just the ones that my fther forced upon me. Alpha was asking me to represent my pack, and as much as I doubted my abilities, I did not want to let them down. Being here with my father, especially if he was in a foul mood, which that strong stench of alcohol told me he likely would be, was only going to delay me from getting to where I needed to be. I could not be there for the guests that I was assigned to if my father was here holding me up.I swallowed nervously, eyeing up the line from where I stood, and
