Chapter 10

Author: Perfect Timing
The words barely left my mouth when the door burst open.

A woman stormed in with wild, disheveled hair and frantic eyes. "Where is my child?"

I took one look at her and recognized her immediately. She was Matthew's mistress.

The moment she spotted the boy in Jenny's arms, she lunged for him. Jenny held on tightly, and the woman screamed. "Mom! What are you doing? He's my son!"

Matthew stepped forward and grabbed her arm. "This has nothing to do with you. You need to leave."

What the hell are you people doing?"Jenny backed away with the boy, scolding her as she went. "Keep your voice down! We brought him here to meet his new mother. What kind of future is this child going to have with you?"Vivienne is the CEO of a publicly traded company. If the child is with her, he'll have everything he could ever need."The woman whipped around to face me. "You heartless wench! You want to tear my baby awa

Three days later, at the law firm, Matthew sat across from me in a crisp suit, every hair slicked perfectly into place. He'd put his polished mask back on. The dark circles under his eyes were the only giveaway that he hadn't been sleeping well.My lawyer was present. I pushed the divorce agreement across the table."Sign it."He didn't even glance at the document."Vivienne, let's talk about this." He looked up and forced a smile. "We don't need to get divorced. I have a solution."He stood up and opened the door. Jenny walked in carrying a child. It was a boy, about a year old, with round cheeks and eyes that looked exactly like Matthew's.Jenny brought the child right up to me, beaming from ear to ear. "Vivienne, look at him. Isn't he adorable? He's so well-behaved and so smart. His grandfather and I have been raising him since he was born. You wouldn't have to lift a finger!"Matthew leaned in too, gazing at me with soft, tender eyes. "Honey, if you're willing, you could be

"Matthew, do you know what it means to be destroyed publicly?" I asked.Matthew froze, his face blank with confusion."I have plenty of evidence." I pulled out my phone and turned the screen toward him. "You've been famous on the internet ever since the day you parked in my spot. I just haven't made the video public yet."But the moment I lay out the whole story from beginning to end and release every piece of evidence? The parking, the shampoo, that woman showing up at our door, the paternity test. How long do you think it'll take before the whole country knows your name?"He stared at me, wide-eyed. "I parked in your spot once, and you started scheming against me?"A wave of bitter sadness washed over me. "I'm the one scheming? When did you start scheming against me, Matthew? Six years ago?"I crossed my arms and waited for the excuses, waited for him to keep up the act. But he didn't.He just looked at me, his expression shifting again and again until it finally settled into

"What are you doing here?" I asked.Matthew stepped closer, his voice hoarse. "Your parents wouldn't let me inside. They said I needed your permission first. So I've been waiting out here for you."I nodded. This actually worked out perfectly.I pulled the divorce agreement I'd picked up earlier that day out of my bag. "Sign it.""Vivienne, I really do love you. I can't lose you." He looked up at me, his eyes pleading. "Just tell me where this whole secret child thing even came from. Let me explain. Someone has to be setting me up. You can't condemn me over one report."I looked at him and almost laughed. He wanted me to ignore an objective report from a certified lab and take his word for it instead? Even now, at this point, he was still performing.I refused to let him say any more and held out the agreement. "If you really love me, then sign it. Walk away with nothing."His expression changed instantly. "You want me to walk away with nothing?"He shoved the agreement back in

"Agreed.""Agreed."The votes came one after another, and with each one, the panic on Matthew's face deepened. His complexion shifted between red and white as he turned to me, desperate. "Vivienne, I love you so much. How could I possibly have a secret child?""Let's just talk this out. Where did this fake paternity test even come from? What did I do wrong for you to go through all this trouble? Or if there's something else you want, just tell me. I'll do whatever it takes.""I run a company this size, Matthew. I don't need to fabricate evidence just to mess with you. Do you think this is some kind of game to me?"I didn't look at him again. I turned to face the executives. "Since we're all in agreement, I am officially announcing that Matthew Channing's termination is effective immediately."Matthew's composure shattered. "Honey—"I gave a nod to my assistant waiting outside the door. She immediately waved in the security guards who'd been standing by."Please escort Mr. Chan

A muscle in Matthew's face twitched, and then he arranged his face into one of confusion and disbelief."Vivienne, what are you talking about?" he asked. "I have no idea what any of this means."He stood up and looked around the room at the executives, his eyes wide and bewildered. "Everyone, please don't take this seriously. There has to be some kind of misunderstanding. My wife and I have always been close. You all know that, right?"The executives exchanged glances in silence, but nobody said a word.He turned back to me, his tone softening, a wounded edge creeping in. "Vivienne, whatever this is, we can talk about it at home. This is a shareholder meeting. Please don't make a scene.""I'm making a scene?" I scoffed. "I'm presenting facts, showing evidence, and stating my case."When you were cheating on me, did you think about sparing me the embarrassment? When you had a baby with that woman, did you think about my dignity then? When you had your parents raising your secret c
