A Farmer

Allen, having lost almost all of his memories, said to himself “….. I am a farmer. I don’t know when I started farming, neither what is the name of this area. But I know this is the domain from the real world and I, now the farmer Allen, am going to explore it.”

Allen went to his farm and watered the plants already buried in it. The weather was also turning quite bad, and then the rain started. He took refuge inside a home next to the barn.

“This is probably my home,” Allen said to himself.

There was nothing in his mind that he could remember about this world except what he was trying to analyze from the things. The farm was basically empty except that… there was a knocking on the door right now.

He got up to open the door, and there was a young woman. He assumed she was looking for a shelter.

“Lady, are you looking for a shelter?”

“I am indeed looking for a shelter, but… lady? Who are you saying this to?” The woman said to him.

Allen looked down at his feet for a second and then replied, ”I am indeed calling you a lady. If you want shelter, you can stay inside the room and I will go take shelter inside the barn. There is quite a lot of…. hay there….” He remembered some things about the farm while talking to her.

He left the room after saying that, however, he soon noticed that the woman was following him. Allen got quite alarmed and hurriedly came inside the farmhouse and locked its door. Soon, the steps of the woman stopped outside the locked door and shook it. And she said… ”How come you closed the door?”

“…. Lady, of course, I am going to close it. Why have you followed me here? If you need anything… you can just tell me or use the kitchen as you please?”

There was silence, and then the footsteps went away.

‘That was weird…. Also, there is indeed hay here as I remembered. Now that almost night has fallen, I also remember where the light buttons are.’

Allen shut the lights down and slept in the middle of the hay that was present there. The barn was covered securely…. he did not check but kind of got the feeling…

Only after a few hours that he slept, he heard a window opening loudly with a chee sound, probably not opened for a long time and hence had become a little stuck… more important than that… a window opening could only be done by a human and other than him, the only person who was present right now was that woman. He didn’t know what in the seven skies did she intend to do.  If she wanted to, it should have not been difficult to harm him, when she first saw him.

Allen looked around the farm and some things that he did not remember before made sense to him now. He worked with the newly gathered information and he figured that the only place that could have been opened was around 15 meters away; it was a window on the second floor… it needed a key to be opened.

‘Only the owner of the house should have known where the keys are kept…’

Allen heard some footsteps approaching him and he didn’t know what should he do. Fight her? Because of what?

He tried to move here and there around some strange equipment that he could remember nothing about. He called out a few times, trying to figure out what the other person wanted, but there was not much of a response.

Finally, he could bear no more and said ”LADY, what do you want. I already sheltered you.”

This time there was a response, and she said, ”What do you… want? Didn’t you already ask for my hand in marriage from my family a few weeks ago? Now that they have died you are calling me a lady? What does that… mean.”

Allen remembered some things after she recounted the tale. He indeed could remember something. He remembered hearing about a good-mannered woman from other people and them going to a house that was less good in its appearance than his and asking for the hand of a woman in marriage. This was indeed the lady that appeared in his images. That….was something to remember. He remembered nothing except that some kind of tragedy, what tragedy it was, was unknown to him. It had struck the family of this woman. He could not remember if he had married her then or not.

Listening to her tone, it didn’t seem like she had married him. And more pressing than that, did the family of this woman even accept him as their son-in-law, or am I just dealing with things that have already been settled in the past. He wanted to ask whether they married, but could not get the words out.

In both cases, whether they were married or not, it was a little embarrassing either way. If they did not, it may appear as him being a sour person to a person whom tragedy had struck. If he had married, well… good luck to him forgetting about his spouse. Not to mention that she had to get home herself in the middle of the rain…

‘It would be better to deal with this matter later. There are things still missing from the overall picture. I need to settle them first. Else I won’t be able to deal with this situation at all.

He said to the lady, this time appearing from his hiding spot,” Shall we then go to the house then, I will serve some milk to you… it is nutritious with some almonds and honey added into it.” Weird things came to mind, but that seemed like the usual routine of this farmer. He could even remember where he had made bee farms to extract the honey out of them.

The woman looked at him for a bit and then agreed to him.

‘Well, one thing done’

They started unlocking the farmhouse and soon, with Allen in the front and the woman in the back, Allen had reached his house. He could remember where he had put his key. He took it out of his pocket and soon they were inside the cozy house. All kinds of possibilities went through his mind about how she reached the second floor and got the key.

The rain had still not calmed down. Their clothes were only a little wet, but he asked the woman to go in any room and come when her hair was completely dry. He gave her a towel and got out of there Asap.

After this, Allen searched everything in the house, starting from his resting room, to see if he could remember anything extra about the situation right now. And after some rough searching, he found a diary that had loggings of a few weeks at least. It was a new diary, with only a few pages logged into it. It was small in its size too. Allen could feel some kind of unknown familiarity, even though he could remember nothing else. He remembered the woman’s name after reading the loggings. He also understood the situation more clearly… It was just that the accident with the family appeared to have occurred on the day that they were going to be married. That appeared to have occurred around 2 weeks ago. There was not much else after that last logged date. He still did not get crucial info. How was he supposed to deal with that woman? Allen heard a door opening sound, and he figured that the woman had finally come out. He wanted to just lock the door and have her think he slept… but it was not fine to delay the things. He could faintly feel that.

Now, just a table separated them both.
