Institution

If someone watched from the highest place in Austin City , he could watch a young man running in the rain, ignoring the shelters built for travelers to rest and protect themselves from extreme weather. Although the rain soaked his clothes and he could catch a cold, it seemed that he did not care. 

Under the stormy rain, a bright smile could be seen hanging from the young man's mouth. It seemed he could not contain his happiness.This young man was Allen.

He continued moving in a direction and went through alleyways and it seemed that he was overly familiar to this route and it was definitely not his first time passing through here.He only stopped after seeing a familiar house in front of him.

 Even though he ran for long, he did not pant much and his breathing soon returned to normal.The house in front of him was very futuristic, but comparing it to the other houses close to it, it seemed ordinary like a single matchstick in a box of matches.

 The young man approached the house and took out a special identity card hidden within a pocket of his jacket. He slipped it into the EDC machine.

 There was a green flash and the door opened by itself. He entered the house and went to the main room without pause. There he saw a girl of about 14 years sitting on the couch watching something on her digital watch intently.

He could not help but smile and called her "Elena, I'm home". The young girl called Elena raised her head and seeing him she became very happy ,she said"Brother you seem very happy, did you pass the test of the institution?"

Allen said nothing, but simply nodded his head and extended his arms. Elena jumped into her brother's arms and gave him a hug and said to her brother "Congratulations brother, I knew you could do it easily" 

Allen smiled at her answer and asked "So, what is my reward?" Elena kissed her brother on his cheek and asked: "Well?". Allen smiled and dropped her.

Allen said to his sister: "Elena, now you do not need to be reserved about what you want and just tell me, the institute gives a good salary, so you do not have to be mindful of anything." 

Allen looked at his sister and felt very sorry, ever since his parents died and left little to no money, their future prospects became worrisome. His sister was also intelligent and did not ask for anything and even her clothes were so old that they seemed small for her age.

He tried to buy her things by overworking, but she never accepted them and always found an excuse to reject them.Elena said to her brother: "Okay brother, please order takeout today." The brother said to his sister "As you wish". 

After they had eaten, Allen spent the rest of the day with Elena to make up for the time he could not spend with her due to hectic activities of the previous few days.After Elena fell asleep, he left the house and saw that the rain had stopped.

After seeing his sister so happy today, a flame of ambition started to breed in him.He vowed to himself to work hard and rise up in the ranks of the institution to improve their living conditions. Little did he know that soon this world would undergo a drastic change.

In a place far from the ordinary house.A middle aged man wearing nice and clean clothes was talking to an old man whose hair had more white hair than black hair.This old man was the same person as the head examiner of the institute test.

"Old Steven, have the newly recruited people been screened?"

" Yes sir Charles,it has been done.The people newly recruited are geniuses from the common people with no background.And you don't really need to call me old when you talk to me"Steven said.

"Well,let it be.I am accustomed to that.And you have asked that too many times." 

"And you have ignored it that many times,"Old Steven replied.

"Jokes aside,how's the project on genetic research coming along.I was reported that it is close to achieving great success but I have not seen any concrete results yet.The investors are also losing confidence because even with the advanced technology,genetic research is a tacky problem.And if it was not for our reputation they would have withdrawn already.I have already solved your problem of shortage of personnel.And it wouldn't hurt to get some results now?I am leaving the rest to you.If you have any further problem you can come but with some results otherwise.."

"Yes,your old servant would gladly oblige"

"So you are calling yourself old now but won't let me huh"

Steven didn't dare reply to the joke.Even if all the investors went to eat rubbish and withdrew from this project,the institute would not care much because the institution was self-sufficient and could provide for itself .

Although he knew that, he didn't dare reply because he understood sir Charles well. Sir Charles were angry and even scolded his own servant who had been with him for a long time because he was also interested in this project.And he had not been interested in anything ever since he was a teenager and what a teenager would be interested in you should know because it is not to be elaborated .He had allocated most of resources of the institute into this project and there was still not any real result to speak of.If he was not angry now then who would doubt he is a buddha, at least Old Steven wouldn't .

Charles said waving his hands"You may leave now".

Old Steven took the hint and bowed slightly and didn't say anything but left the room.

Charles thought to himself"Was I too cold to him?No.I need to get things straight now or else I will die of age before they accomplish anything. But it also can not be rushed. If it was so easy ,someone would have already completed the research before us., I wonder how much I would need to wait before achieving your dreams grandfather".

Charles looked outside the place consoling himself, silently watching the surroundings that he had seen many times.

In the morning,bright sunlight penetrated the place where Allen slept, making him awake even though he was unwilling.Even though he was narcissistic about his other aspects,he admitted he didn't like the fact that he needed more sleep than his peers.

Though it is not a bad thing as well, as he feels full of energy during the day because of it.Though genetic study has not achieved great success, It has been confirmed now that genes play a role in lifestyle of most humans as it contain experiences of one's ancestors.Though they are not everything and one's memories mainly determine how one wants to spend his/her life. There may also be cases in which genes are not inherited perfectly. 

It's like how most people have black eyes but some have blue,brown,green eyes due to different distribution of pigments in them.Even if genes are inherited perfectly, every person is unique in their own way.

It's like how every human is the same at cellular level but has unique DNA which makes him distinct from others.

A child usually resembles his parents because they are closest in line of ancestors to the child.And the more back one goes in ancestor line the more faint characteristics of them will he/she have.But there are always exceptions.

These are the only big discoveries man has made on Genes.

Some might think it's good enough for now and progress is made slowly.But if a century's research leads to so little results then it is too pathetic.And it is even done by World's Leading Institute .Not some random fraud company. 

The institution might really have made a breakthrough but for some reason whenever the project was close to achieving something ,it was always shut down.And it was already the third attempt at it.

And Allen was only concerned about it now because previously he was content with just being a member of the institute. Now he wants to rise through ranks and provide his sister the best he could.

As Allen was thinking about how he should do that, he heard a soft knock on the door
