The air was thick with smoke and fumes from the flames rising from the burning buildings, most of the houses that had been set on fire were either already burnt to the ground or had been extinguished already. The village was desolate, they had been able to get most of the people away to safety during the invasion and the few unfortunate ones that had been caught in the cross fire were those who lived closest to the forest.

The acrid smell of burnt flesh was concentrated in this part, carried around by the night breeze coming in from the forest along with the howling sounds of some of the werewolves that had managed to get past them and escape back into the forest. The destruction they had brought down to the village was more massive than Triston had thought it would be and it annoyed him.

It was still night time and the moon was shining brightly above their heads. Triston stood in the midst of the werewolves he had slain with his white fur covered in their blood, he lifted his face up

With a mother's precision and her meticulous nature, Lady Ophni had made sure to pack every essential thing she felt Annora would need to live comfortably in Nyxoria, curating every detail and carefully selecting every item. Alha Ardon's quiet observation had hinted at excess and his gentle suggestion that she might be over preparing had been met with a determined glint in her eyes and she had persisted, driven by a mother's instinct to provide and protect. She knew every extra blanket, every favourite book and every sentimental trinket would be a reminder of home for Annora.Alpha Ardon's decision not to intervene spoke volumes about his understanding of Lady Ophni's emotional state, he knew that this was her way of coping with the thought of sending her daughter away. With the journey to Nyxoria taking only a couple of hours, Alpha Ardon had graciously allowed Annora to linger in the castle for a little while longer, and linger she did. She had spent most of the morning holed up in

  • Wolf's Bane: Moonlit Forbidden   The Past: Treaty Conditions 2

"You were arguing earlier, weren't you?" Annora whisper caught her mother off guard as they hugged, her soft voice carrying a hint of curiosity. Her mother disengaged from the hug but she held her close by the arm with a smile on her face, "Was it about the peace treaty condition from Nyxoria?"Lady Ophni's expression shifted from tender to surprise and she shared a brief glance with her husband before returning her focus on her daughter. She disengaged completely from the hug and took a step back, "How did you know about that?"Annora shrugged her shoulders and maintained her smile, "Anything discussed in the throne room cannot be trusted to be kept secret, mother," she rolled her eyes good naturedly, "The servants whisper and the men talk in loud voices. The council members aren't exactly discreet.""Annora," her mother called, her voice trembling with emotions as she grasped her daughter's hands swiftly and squeezed gently, "Just say the word, all you have to say is that you do not

  • Wolf's Bane: Moonlit Forbidden   The Past: Treaty Conditions 1

"How dare they expect me to be comfortable sending my only daughter to another kingdom over some stupid treat condition!"Lady Ophni's voice echoed through the castle's corridors as she stomped u the stairs, her footsteps heavy with indignation and pounding out a furious rhythm. Alpha Ardon followed closely behind her, his expression was calm but concerned. The letter from Nyxoria had arrived earlier that day, bringing news that none of them had been prepared for. The proposed treaty condition was clear and straight forward: in the interest to forge and solidify the fragile peace between the two kingdoms, they were to exchange one member of the royal family, that way, the peace formed between the two kingdoms would be secured.Lady Ophni's fury was palpable as she reached the top of the stairs, made her way down the hall and to their quarters and pushed the door open. Knowing her husband was behind her, she spun to face him, "My child sent away to a foreign land is a prospect I will n

"What does that mean for you?" he had asked with his eye brows furrowed into a deep frown. He knew what that meant as the weight of his father's words sank in, but he still needed a little bit of clarity. "Ever since your mother passed away, I have chosen to remain unmated," he explained as his eyes clouded over, "I knew the consequences, what it would cost me, but I had to focus on raising you." Triston was stunned into silence, his face was a mask of calm but his eyes betrayed his turmoil. His mind was still reeling from the revelation and he struggled to find a response. His father had just told him that he was dying and there was nothing that could be done about it. Or was there? "You can still find a mate," desperation crept in as he spoke. It did not show in his voice as he had masked it well, but it was evident in his eyes. Alpha Ardon's laughter was like a low rumbling sound. He choked, coughed and then continued laughing, "How old am I, Triston?" he asked with a chuckle a

  • Wolf's Bane: Moonlit Forbidden   Alpha's Illness

They had called all the physicians they could call in Elyria but Alpha Ardon had turned them all away, saying that he only needed to rest a while to get his health back. Triston had never known his father to have a health issue, he had always been so rigid, like a pillar of strength, so when he had been told that his father had slumped suddenly, it had sent him into a panic. He had abandoned everything he had been doing without hesitation and as he ran all the way up to his fathers' quarters, his mind was filled with the worse case scenarios, his concern for his father's condition driving him to hurry. When he finally arrived the chambers, he was out of breath, his heart racing with worry. He was met with an eerie silence, the only sound was the soft rustling of the curtains in the breeze.Alpha Ardon laid in bed, supported by a stack of pillows that seemed to be holding him upright, providing more than just physical support. Despite his weakened state, he did not look like a man on

  • Wolf's Bane: Moonlit Forbidden   The Bigger Plan

Reyes went back to the exact same spot he had been standing on the veranda after he had left the meeting room. His gaze was piercing as he gazed out to the forest and his frown remained, a testament to his deep contemplation. Although he seemed distracted, he was actuely aware of Dathan's presence beside him, waiting for him to say something because he knew his Delta had something eating him up on the inside concerning his declaration earlier. His move to lunch an attack on Elyria had been fueled by the need to and by his own personal reasons, his deep seated hatred for Triston for the death of his sister, Maya. He had predicted her death even before then and he had vene come to terms that sometimes some things or some people would have to be sacrificed for the greater good, to achieve a greater purpose and he had even counted his sister as one of such persons, but when it had come down to that and he had watched her die in his arms, he came to the realization that he actualy would n

His wolf's voice echoed in his mind, whispering a single word that sparked a maelstorm of emotions."Mate..."He stood on the veranda overlooking the courtyard with his gaze fixed on the stone railing as his thoughts churned and his mind wandered. Hours had passed since they had returned from the forest and the sun was still rising, casting a warm glow over the lndscape, yet he had been pacing this spot, lost in thoughts. His hands were clasped behind his back, his fingers drumming a slow rhythm as he struggled to make sense of his wolf's claim."Mate?" he whispered to himself, a frown etched across his eyebrows, "Of all the impoddible nonsense that could confuse me..." his words trailed off, leaving the question unanswered and hanging in the air.He was mated to Zina, bound by a committment that could not easily be broken. The idea of being mated to another was an unthinkable fantasy, a mythical notion with no basis in reality, and yet his wolf had sensed something different, somethi

"Is it possible for someone to steal another person's scent?"Ivone's question hung in the air, a perculiar look on her face as she asked Triston. The silence between them had been uncomfortable but her sudden question had shattered the tranquility. The query seemed to have come out of nowhere and Triston's eyes narrowed slightly as he studied her face, his eyes locking onto hers with an unspoken question. It had been almost an hour since her emotional outburst and hse had been quiet, lost in thoughts. He had been watching her, trying to guage her mood. She sat up in bed, propped against a stack of pillows, the near empty plates on the food tray testement to her having eaten. His gaze lingered on her half eaten meal before returning to her face. His expression was thoughtful, his eyes crankling at the corner and searching her expression for clues, trying to decipher the meaning behind her question and about what had prompted her to ask."What makes you ask that?" he paused, his eyes
