Everest I woke up to an empty bed. I could tell it was late in the morning already. I checked my phone beside my bed, and it read half passed eleven. I’d slept nearly half the day away already. There was an ache between my legs that was going to make walking today a bit uncomfortable, but I’d never felt happier. I stretched, making the ache twinge. I hopped up to shower, letting the hot water wash away the hours of sleep I’d had. I wondered when Finn had left. I didn’t know where we stood, and I wasn’t sure if things were going to be different now. I didn’t feel bad about anything…If anyone was going to be my first, I’m glad it was him. Finn I left the hospital after talking with Marley and instead of answers I felt like I just had a million more questions. Everests effect on her had no doubt cured her, but it had also left a mark. How was it possible for any of this to be happening? Everest Sienna had gotten up and walked away from Finn hurriedly. He stood there, eyes on me, watching to see how I’d react. I wasn’t a stranger to his rage…I knew he had a temper, and I’d been on the receiving end of it already a few times. Plus, what he’d done had been to defend me…not that I condoned strangling young women, but I knew in his mind he was protecting me. Although I could have done without knowing that they’d had sex before…my stomach churned at the thought of it. He stood there with his eyes burning and chest heaving, so I approached him slowly. Memories from the night before flashed in my mind making me blush slightly. Everest On the bottom floor of the packhouse there was a common room tucked at the back. It had a theater size flat screen, a ton of cozy couches and chairs, a fridge fully stocked with snacks and drinks, a pool table, air-hockey, videogames, and every board game you could possibly imagine. This is where we met Dayna and Lupin for our girl’s night. We started the night off with a line of shots and played every kind of drinking game you can imagine. Lupin and I teamed up for beer pong against Dayna and Kali and got absolutely slaughtered by them, making us far more intoxicated than we’d intended. After a few hours of games, we sat down and starting chatting, getting to know each other better. “So, I spend most of my time travelling to neighbouring packs talking about the benefits of having female betas and trying to break barriers for more women to be higher ranked in the packs. At first it felt like a lost cause, but over the last year or so a lot of alphas have really come around.

Finn I grabbed a pair of shorts from the house and went back to meet Everest at the lake. She wanted to talk, and I felt a pang of anxiety at the thought. Was she going to reject the bond after everything I’d put her through? I wouldn’t be surprised, but the idea sent a sharp stab of pain through my chest. My fear of losing her had out done my fear of loving her tonight and Sienna had almost paid the price with her life. Granted she deserved it, but Everest had asked me not to. Banishing her hadn't been fun, but there was no way she was going to go unpunished for what she did to Everest. I reached the grassy lawn before the sandy shores of the lake and saw Everest sitting down in the grass, her arms wrapped around her legs. Everest I stood rooted to the spot, staring into the eyes of this creature. Its blood-curdling screams echoed off the mountains and its eyes were glued to me. It flapped its massive leathery wings and took off into the air, circling high above us. “What the fuck is that?” Finn shouted. “I – I think I’ve seen it before… but I can’t remember what it’s called.” I shouted back. We ducked under the nearest tree and Finn sent out a mass mind-link to the entire pack to stay indoors. “We’ve got to kill it” he growled. He shifted into his massive grey-blue wolf and ran out of the trees, searching the skies for the creature. I stood against the tree and closed my eyes, wracking my brains to remember where I’d seen it before. White, leathery skin, wings, fangs…

Finn I rushed forward and caught Everest before she hit the ground, as everyone else stood there too stunned to move a muscle at what they’d just witnessed. I picked her up in my arms and carried her over to the bed on the other side of the room. The golden orb on her forehead was still fading and her skin, still feverishly hot, was slowly returning to normal. The room had burned with her aura, and everyone had been forced back to the edges to escape the intensity. The doctors rushed forward to tend to Lupin and check her vitals, and Dayna, Caleb and Kali stood there looking shocked. “Alpha, what the hell was that?” Dayna gasped. “Everest’s a gifted wolf…” Kali whispered, her eyes wide with amazement. “Holy…” Caleb held Kali against his chest, his eyes as wide as hers.

Everest Every muscle in my body ached. Using the gifts had proved to be exhausting, but I was grateful that I could help people. Finn had woken me up to shower and ‘talk’. I knew he just wanted to complete the rejection and get it over with since we’d been interrupted last night. I’d told him that I loved him, and he’d still wanted to end this anyways. I knew now that no matter what happened he was never going to change. At least I’d had the chance to tell him once. I thought about the way the Aswang had acted. It had stared directly at me. It wasn’t there for Finn; it had wanted me. Even with him attacking it, it had charged for me. I felt its hunger for me. I knew now that this was all tired together. The aswangs appearance, the attacks, my abilities…it was all tied to me. I scrubbed my skin until it was reddened trying to clean Lupins blood off. I wanted to check on her before I went home.
