Chapter: 4

"Cressida, no one is allowed there right now!"

"Whatever!"

"Cressida I am telling you to stop, for God's sake!"

I expeditiously turned around and came face to chest with the one and only, Damien. I had to crinkle my neck from the back in order to look at his face which had a frown. I folded my arms at my chest and narrowed my eyes at him, indicating him to say whatever he wanted to.

"Cressida, why are you so stubborn? I am telling you that you are not allowed there. No one is." He stated while pushing his hands into his black jean's pockets at the front. Now it was my turn to frown.

"Why are you so heartless? I think you forgot that just yesterday my brother was ferociously killed in the library and all that the staff of this academy did or will be doing is arranging a funeral for him! Not even our parents are informed about the death of their only son! No investigations are in process. My God! I cannot believe it! Are you all people even humans? Oh sorry, I forgot. We are 'Diamonds' but one thing you people forgot to mention is that you all are 'heartless' Diamonds that may look good from the outside but are completely emotion less from the inside!" By the time I was done, my lungs were dying for the oxygen.

Damien just kept on looking at me as if I had just pulled out his brain and placed it in his hands. After staring for at least two whole minutes, he suspired out loud and then ran a hand through his thick and glassy hair.

"Look, I understand what you are feeling right now..." I tried to interrupt but he simply increased his voice level and continued, "but first you need to know what you are doing. You don't even know about how to control your powers neither you know what kind of powers you have. Do you have any idea that like this you can hurt others? People's lives are on risk just because of you!"

I tried to digest his words. I let out a frustrated sigh and when was about to turn again towards the study, Damien roughly grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him, into his hard chest.

I placed my hands on his chest to create some distance between us but he didn't even budge. His eyes were filled with frustration and little anger was there too, behind the grayish-blue orbs.

"Stop being so stubborn! I am being patient just because of your loss and due to mom's orders or I would have not given even a single care about you. Now go back to your bedroom and at least change your clothes.

They are still bathed in blood."

He said the the first part while gritting his teeth and the rest in a little less raging manner. My eyes were glued to his. He really was heartless like Lady.Hannah. No one gave a damn care about my brother. I pushed him with all my power and this caught him off guard as he stumbled back. I gave him a last glare and then ran towards my room before he could see my tears leaving my eyes.

I closed the bathroom door and slid downwards and then sat on the floor with my back on the door and my knees near my chest. I finally allowed the warm tears to flow out of my big eyes. I didn't stop them.

If tears were kept inside, they grew into a violent beast that clawed one from the inside all the time, devastating that person. Hence it was good to let the source of that devastation come out rather than feed it on your pain to make it grow.

After minutes of crying there on the floor, I brought my hands near my face to wipe out the tears. My palms were still bandaged. I stood up from the floor and observed my surroundings.

The bathroom floor was inlaid with cream colored tiles while the counter stood which could be reached by walking straight from the door to the front. The counter shelf was of skin marble and both the corners of the counter were decorated with white vases and inside were red and white roses. Their soft and subtly sweet scent made me relax.

A large mirror was above the counter and on a silver hoop at the left side of the mirror was hanging a white towel. The counter was also filled with all the necessary items such as the toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash which were more than of one kind, moisturisers and bath soaps. Along with them was a shampoo and conditioner.

I glanced down and found that under the counter shelf was a cupboard. On opening it I found all the other sanitary items and packets of extra shampoos, toothpastes etc. I then looked to my right and found a round but very big bathtub with a railing at the front that held the red silk curtains. After taking in my surroundings I glanced at my reflection in the mirror.

That wasn't me. My eyes were too red and puffy because of the crying and I had grown dark circles underneath them. My dark brown hair were a mess and especially with that bandage still on my head. My gray eyes had no life in them, no shine, no attraction which used to be there and my plump lips which used to be a naturally dark shade of pink were now light pink, the most better part of my face. My nails had dried blood inside. My forehead also had few patches of blood and few strands of my hair had dried blood too. My white T-shirt and the peach coloured jean's were also in red crimson coloured blood. Conclusion; I was a mess in the blood.

Thinking of it, it was the blood of my brother. He was gone, forever. My eyes were getting wet again but then something flashed in me. Rage, revenge. I wanted to punish that person or persons or whatever did this. I had powers, that was crystal clear after my encounters with throwing the furniture. At that time I realised that how lucky I was to have them. I could use them to punish the murderer. I could use them as my strength.

I glanced back at my reflection. I was determined more than ever. To make myself capable enough to take revenge, to sort out the mysteries and to make myself strong enough to be able to go back to my normal world, with my parents. I gave myself a nod. I felt good. I felt strong.

After setting up the goal of my life, I came out of the bathroom and went to the closet. I found that there were many, many clothes. More than I actually had back in human dimension, and they all seemed to be too good and quite girlish.

I had no problem with that actually. I was the best at dress up. Actually, I was best at everything. That thought made me feel even more determined that no matter what, I will surely be able to unravel the mysteries here.

I went through the hanged clothes and then chose upon a set that caught my eye due to its colour. That was Mike's favourite. People often wiped out the signs of those who died for the meantime but I wanted to keep them with me forever; to remind me of my ambition.

I took out the hanger that held the mustard coloured sweater top and blue skinny jeans along. I then opened the other closet and found it full of shoes. I chose a pair of black long shoes with laces that might reach above my ankles.

After getting everything that I needed, I went to the washroom and after locking the door behind me and stripping from the bloody clothes that I was wearing, I turned on the shower and set to a little warm temperature. I slowly took off my bandages and was surprised to see that there were only scars left. On touching it, I felt little pain but not too much.

Then I entered the bathtub under the running shower. My smooth and fair skin met the warm water. It instantly caused my tensed muscles to relax. I let out a sigh thinking of how my life had turned into a unpredictable one.

I wanted to be a doctor and I knew that nothing could stop me from that. Me and Mike would have gone to Germany together after we had settled ourselves with our lives. Would have travelled the world just like we had always wanted to, get married and then have kids, nourish our kids with our life-partners and then would have grown old one day and eventually become the guests of the graveyard some day.

Every thing would have been normal. But this was what we called fate. It played with us and tangled people with its situations. Either people would die out of suffocation or some may free themselves and keep going.

I looked at myself in the floor length mirror in my bedroom. I looked alot better. In fact a new person. No bandages were there apart from light scars inside my palms and one on my forehead, above my left eyebrow. The skinny jeans hugged the curves on my legs amazingly.

I pulled the hair on the upper half of my head into a bun at the top while allowed the rest of the hair to flow straight down, reaching my back at the waist line. They looked alive after getting washed and the shine had returned.

I walked towards the door of my bedroom and entered the dingy hallway. I let out a breath and with a renewed confidence headed towards the library.

I remembered the ways well as I had studied the map that was pasted at front of the wall in the hallway. I tried hard to make sure that no one sees me going towards the library but as the fate was going in the totally opposite direction of my wills, I heard the creak of a door just when I had reached the end of the hallways and was about to climb the stairs that would lead me to the library.

"Cressida?" I heard my name from a familiar female voice.

I turned around and saw the same girl with the A line bob that had spoken during the speech of Lady Hannah. Her blue eyes gleamed with happiness and her lips turned upwards into a friendly smile but then instantly turned into a frown. She looked behind her and then behind me.

After that she rushed towards me and held my wrist and then pulled me along into her bedroom. I didn't look at her room as I was really confused by her act. After closing the door she turned around and then gave me an apologetic smile.

"Sorry for that. Anyways, time to clear out your confusion. I am Eleanor Thomas." She held out her hand to shake. I reluctantly pushed my hand forward and shaked her hand.

Where had I heard that name before?

"I am assigned to help you out with your powers although I don't even know anything about my powers but I am assigned to do so. Actually....I asked Lady Hannah myself as I felt really sorry for your loss and found you really amiable and also beautiful. Oh there I go again with the rambling stuff. Sorry for that. It is just that I cannot control my rambling. I do it often, especially when I am nervous or angry or ...." I stopped her rambling by raising my hand and bringing a smile on my face. I felt alot better.

"That is fine Eleanor. You don't have to be nervous. I get it. And thank you for your sympathy. You are the only who feels sorry." I said with my voice getting low.

She placed a hand on my shoulder and I quickly regained my posture thinking of staying strong.

"Why did you pull me here?" I asked.

"Lady Hannah would have killed you for that. I know where you were heading to. To be honest I think you should as everything in the library is the same way. You might found something like a clue or anything. Just your brother's head has been picked up along with the ripped parts of the body. Every student here knows of the triumph that happened Cressida." I gave her a tight smile, grateful for her complete explanation, unlike others who left me puzzled always.

"I really have to go, no matter what." I said and went for the door knob but was stopped by Eleanor.

"Since you are so much determined, mind If I join your investigation? I might help. Also, what if you get caught? I can come up with some excuse that you got lost and I found you and was about to head back our rooms." I pondered over her words and finally agreed.

She could come handy. I gestured her to follow me. We after peeking at our surroundings climbed the stairs and met with the same door on my left. It reminded of the dark moments. I settled the deep knot at my stomach and pushed open the door with a little force.

After getting inside, we met with the smell of the blood, causing us to scrunch up our noses. I roamed my eyes everywhere. The room was still empty but with only blood that had dried on the floor and even on the wall.

"Cressida, I think you might want to see this." I heard Eleanor's voice from the end of the room, on the left hand side of the room. I approached with slightly trembling legs.

She was seated on her knees and looking down at the floor. She turned her neck towards me. Her gaze held confusion and her eyebrows were knitted together. She then turned her face back to what she was looking at. I followed her gaze at the floor and confusion built up in my mind.

There was a symbol drawn out of blood. It was a diamond with two triangles at the side of the diamond denoting as if the diamond was glowing.

I crouched down to inspect the symbol closely.

"That is the symbol of our academy." I heard Eleanor's whisper.

I scrunched my eyebrows together while thinking. What on earth did that meant? It was time for me to make my mind run on the wheels of intelligence.

"You sure about that?" I asked.

"Yes." She said.

"Then it means only one thing..." My voice started to trail off as I met Eleanor's gaze. She simply noded slowly and was about to open her mouth when we heard footsteps approaching. Her panicked expression met mines and we both quickly got onto our feet.

"There." Eleanor pointed towards a books' cupboard that had some space beside it with the wall in far end corner of the room at right hand side. We both sprinted to that corner and squeezed ourselves, hiding. This was a good spot to hide.

We heard the door opening and in came a man. I recognised him instantly. Who else could be bare feet with no shirt on, only long cape and hair fixed in an impeccable way? Lord Higgins. Behind him came another man who had all the cleaning items.

"I want you to clean that symbol on the floor first. Then clean the rest of the room."

On hearing this, the hair on my neck stood up due to anger. He knew that it was a clue but he wanted to wipe it out. Eleanor looked at me with shock and before I could comprehend what I was doing, I squeezed myself out of our hidden spot even though Eleanor tried to stop me.

"What exactly are you trying to do Lord Higgins?" I said with anger dripping off of my words while my arms crossed at my chest. Lord Higgins turned around with surprise. It was time to hear to his so-called explanation.
