Breathe

Breathe

Breathe

It was the one word that I kept on repeating in my mind like a mantra or some magical spell. I turned my eyes at Damien and saw him doing the same. Of course, we were caught by God knows which teacher and anytime soon I was going to be scolded, bringing another record of mine to a stop.

Was I deteriorating myself instead of improving? 'Certainly, you are.' An inner voice in my head said. I wanted to bang my head somewhere at that moment.

I and Damien were still facing the intruder with our backs until the voice spoke again.

"Were you guys going to run without me?"

I scrunched my brows. Which teacher would want to run with us? Wait a sec!

I ferociously turned a 360° and after a pause I said, "What on earth? You legit gave me a heart attack!"

Eleanor smirked and then locked the library door behind her.

"What are you doing here? You know you shouldn't be here. We are not allowed. " I heard Damien saying as he took a step forward.

I and Eleanor gave him a glare.

"Says who? One who himself sneaked here with my friend. And by the way.....the couple dance that you guys staged is what every single person has been talking about. Also do you know...." She was interrupted when I held her hand tightly and began pulling her to the door.

"Come on Damien! We need to go!"

"Oh yeah! I forgot that the team staff is here and I came along since I had a patrol duty to attend. You guys need to be out. I will help!" She chirped as if what she had just suggested was something miraculous.

Damien rolled his eyes and what he did next, it was mine and Eleanor's turn to roll our eyes.

Damien pulled my hand away from Eleanor's and said, "I can take care of ourselves without your help, and can also lead us out of here without getting cau...." Before he could complete, another voice interrupted.

"Hey kids! What are you doing here?" From the corner of my eye, I could see black and blue uniform which indicated that it was a guard.

"Run!" Whisper yelled Eleanor while glaring at Damien and motioning us not to turn our faces so that the guard might not be able to see us.

Without giving a second thought, Damien pulled me along him while I was followed by Eleanor, as we sprinted through that corridor into another one at the left. I tightened my grip from the other hand on the book that had our answers.

I looked at Eleanor with a questioning gaze as why was she also running. She had just mentioned that she was on the duty.

"I can't let them know that I was there to support you guys, can I?" She shouted while running.

We kept on running and it felt like forever. All of the corridors were lightened up now and thus, we could easily run without bumping into the walls or with torchlights switched on.

"Here!" Eleanor lead us to a stair case leading downstairs and then to the hallway I don't remember I and Damien had passed through before.

"Now listen...you...guys....go from here." She said while taking in deep breaths.

"This is another exit way. I will go back inside and tell them that I did not see any of you. Now run!"

I and Damien ran out through the door.

We kept on running and heading towards our building while the cold wind brushed past us, making myriad strands of hair to slap me on my face.

I closed the door of my bedroom and plopped onto my bed. Heaven! It felt like I had just stepped into heaven for real. I heard a loud chuckle but it felt like it was being restrained from coming out loud clear.

I turned my face around while my stomach was laying straight on the bed. My eyes began glaring at Damien who also seemed to be a little out of breath but not much.

"Yes I know I need to exercise but you still don't have the right to make fun of me! I ran from there..." I pointed randomly at my left, "to here without a break! That is a HUGE deal for me!"

"I didn't even say anything! God your personality is really feisty. Like a cat." Damien tried to counter back.

"Whatever." I sighed and then sat cross legged on my bed with the book in my lap.

"We succeeded. I still cannot believe this. I broke one of the rules at the academy but it turned out to bring fruitful results. Along with the cramps and sore feet." I cried out the last part.

"Yeah, you are right. Indeed we had a loooonnng day today. By the way I have to say this, you are a terrible dancer and what Eleanor said might be accurate without any doubt. People must have liked our dance because of your struggle to keep up with me." Damien commenced to laugh so hard that tears pricked his eyes and he held his stomach while he kept rolling from side to side on my bed.

"Shut up! I know I am a good dancer! When I was in class three, I won first position in dance competition!" I tried to make him change his view and indeed it was true that I had won the first position. However, note the keyword here, 'tried' to make him change his view but it only resulted in making him laugh even harder.

Just when I was about to speak something to fire back at Damien, a death picking pain striked my head, making the world around me to spin.

I let out a whimper and this caused Damien's laugh to die out. When he saw my scrunched up face, due to pain, he sat up with seriousness and concern plastered on his face.

"What happened? Are you okay? Cre..." His voice trailed off as I couldn't hear any longer. I saw his lips moving but no sound could be detected.

My hands were firmly gripping my head when I stood up from the bed. The pain continued to strike like a hammer on a nail as the world around me was spinning at a very high rate. My breath quickened and so did my heart beat.

"I need help! Please help meeeee!!!" I heard a light and soft voice scream inside my head. It definitely wasn't the inner voice that I had made up myself but it belonged to someone else. I had a sudden urge to help that person.

My eyes shot open and it was then when I could hear and see around me. Damien had gripped my shoulders tightly and was shouting at me. But what my concern was at that very moment was to go where my instincts were pulling me to.

I closed my eyes again, this time voluntarily, in a hope that it might help me to come into my senses and think about where was I going to head, to help that person whose voice had just all of a sudden boomed into my head out of no where.

On closing my eyes, I saw a picture. It was a little glitched, but clear enough for me to understand what was happening.

I saw the piano girl from the ball and the same who had caught me and Damien when we were about to kiss in the washroom. She was hanging in the air with both of her hands tightly gripping the railing, the only source for her being alive.

It was a terrace that was located outside every student's dorm. I closed my eyes even tightly and tried to see more, looking for some sign that would help me understand the floor number.

My vision almost instantly on my thought moved to the door of her room, showing the room number, like a camera man running to capture the scene.

I opened my eyes again, and before I could waste a single fraction of second, my wobbly legs pushed forward with all their strength outside my room, taking me to the second floor, room number 43.

"Cressida! For God's sake! Tell me what is happening? Where are you going? Are you okay?" Damien was hot on my tracks and kept shouting questions without missing a beat.

Once I reached the room number, I saw a number of students gathered outside but none dared to make a move and help that poor girl.

I as fast as a flash, rushed inside the room and to the terrace.

"Holy smokes!" Damien whispered behind me when he took in the scene.

"I will go and inform somebody." He said urgently and turned around to leave but a fat kid answered him, "No need. We already have."

If my concentration was on him, I would have answered him perfectly as to why was not anyone helping her but my mind at the time was engaged in thinking of some way to help her.

The railing was coming off of the ground and that suggested why no body made the move to help. Who so ever would have pulled her back, would have also needed a support. The floor began cracking.

Why was the quality of the construction so weak?!

"Mary!" I heard someone shout from my back.

The girl who I came to know was called Mary, her right hand slipped off and she began crying even harder and louder.

"Please HELP!"

Then an idea popped into my head. I could use my powers, Telekinesis! I tried to move her but the hustle bustle around me was distracting me. Then I tried to melt away those sounds and placed my full concentration.

I felt the same sensations as before. The hot liquid rushing through my body to my hands and leaving the fingertips tickling, followed by the shock of energy.

I opened my eyes and motioned my hand upward, slowly. It worked, but a little I might add.

Mary was being lifted up but slightly. I placed more pressure on my brain and hand and thought as if all the energy waves around me were gathering inside my palm. It helped and she moved quite higher, nearer to the terrace floor.

Her grip loosened a little on the railing and silence broke in the room. Everyone was watching intensely. I tried even harder and a small smile of hope creeped up onto Mary's pale face.

Hope ignited inside me as well but then I heard Lady Hannah's voice booming inside the room all of a sudden.

That was so not good. I got distracted and then something happened. Something I did not want to happen at all. Nobody wanted. Mary slipped with a horrified expression on her face while a deafening scream made its way out of her throat.

I ran near to the railing and peeped down. What I saw made my breath to stop and and my blood went cold.

Mary wasn't dead. She had not fallen. She wasn't falling anymore. She was 'floating' in the air.

Her mouth was left gaped and her eyes

were shot open, wide enough for me to see all the whites. She wasn't blinking either. Why?

Because she was frozen in that falling motion as she was sprawled in the air.

I had no idea what was happening. I turned around to see, what made me faint, almost.

Everyone was frozen. No one was blinking and they had stopped in the mid of their expressions and actions. Lady Hannah was barging outside the terrace as one of her legs had stopped mid way, and the other were, well, let's say, they weren't looking good either.

I kept looking all around me and after like some good minutes, something dawned on me.

I glanced at my watch and saw that even the watch had frozen.

Every damn thing was frozen in time. For God's sake, Time had stopped!

"Does this mean...?" I spoke to myself, more than flabbergasted and out of breath.

I am the Queen of the Magic Manipulation Powers?!

Okay, so Cressida thinks she is the Queen but not always what we predict is true. However, it can be true at the same time. Oh God, don't put your pretty brains to test. Just stay calm and keep reading lovely people. Believe me when I say, A LOOOT is waiting for you.
