The door to Charles’s suite didn’t make a sound when Chris opened it. He stepped into the room, closing it softly behind him, and immediately began pacing across the floor.

Charles didn’t look up from his laptop as he spoke.

“You know how much I hate it when you do that.”

“I know,” Chris said. “It’s the only way I can get your attention when you’re completely buried in work.”

Charles finally glanced at his Cartier wristwatch, the one he wore every single day and had worn for the past two years

Charles let out a ragged grunt as he collapsed forward, his palms slamming against the edge of his desk to keep himself from hitting the floor. Sweat was literally pouring down his forehead, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the wood for dear life.Every single nerve in his lower half was screaming in agony. He was vibrating with unfiltered rage, his jaw clenched so tightly he was pretty sure he was about to crack a molar.“Fucking… little…” Charles choked out, his voice a gravelly, pained whisper as he hoisted himself into a nearby chair. He slumped backward, but even sitting down felt like a fresh punishment. Every slight movement sent another brutal pulse of pain through his battered groin, forcing him to suck in a shaky breath through gritted teeth.“I’ll kill her. I swear to God, I am gonna find a way to get that little menace kicked out of this facility.”BAM.The office door burst open.Charles snapped his head around, his eyes flashing with a venomous glare. He fully ex

  • YES NURSE   32.The Fundraising Casanova

“Hey,” Chase protested, placing a hand dramatically over his chest. “That was unnecessarily cruel, Browne.”“I merely stated a fact. Why are you so offended?”Chase let out an exaggerated sigh and clicked his tongue, shaking his head at her.“You really wound me, you know that?”He straightened in his chair, looking at her with mock disappointment.“Do you have any idea that I’m actually an orthopedic surgeon? Why do you think I’m not in the OR setting broken bones?”Spirit’s brows shot up in disbelief.“You? A surgeon?”“Grandpops put me in this position for a reason, Nurse Browne,” Chase continued, sitting up and resting his elbows on the desk, his eyes locked onto hers with an unsettling intensity.“He knows I have a golden tongue and a supernatural ability to talk my way into getting anything I want out of women. It’s a talent. I help them feel good, and they help the hospital budget. It’s a win-win.”The word help instantly struck a match in Spirit’s brain, dragging her back to

  • YES NURSE   31. Chasing Chase

Spirit watched Chris walk away. She stood in the middle of the hallway for a second, her chest heaving as she tried to get her bearings.Suddenly, a realization hit her, and she smacked her forehead in frustration.Am I seriously this stupid? she screamed at herself. Why hadn’t she just asked Chris where Chase’s office was?Charles had mentioned yesterday that all three brothers worked at the hospital, which meant the playboy was definitely somewhere in this building. But Voss Memorial was a sprawling, multi-wing medical fortress. Hunting him down randomly would take hours she didn’t have. She needed a faster source of information.Spirit spun on her heel and sprinted back toward the Med-Surg nurse’s station. Just as she rounded the corner, she saw Chloe and a small group of first-year residents walking out of the scrub room. They were still adjusting their stethoscopes and checking their clipboards after coming down from a procedure. The moment Chloe spotted Spirit rushing toward her

Spirit bounced hard from the impact, losing her balance. Before she could fall, a strong arm wrapped tightly around her waist, catching her mid-air and pulling her securely against a broad chest. She gasped, her eyes flying open as she looked up.For a split second, a surge of panic hit her, and she almost screamed at the top of her lungs. But then she stopped herself. Her rational brain kicked in.It can’t be Charles, she realized. Charles is definitely still rolling around on his office floor, cradling his thoroughly injured jewels. She paused, taking in the man’s expression more carefully. There was no fury.Instead, she was looking up at a kind, empathetic smile and warm eyes that instantly made the tight knot in her chest unravel.Spirit let out a loud gasp of relief.“Chris!”“Nurse Browne,” Chris said, a soft chuckle rumbling in his chest as he helped her regain her footing.“What kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into this time?”Spirit blinked, stepping back to give hi

Body bag???? Spirit’s eyes went wide as saucers. She wanted to believe it was all a bluff, but the look in his eyes said otherwise. He looked like someone who would easily snap her head off her shoulders without blinking.Fear gripped her instantly, her body trembling.Spirit clawed desperately at his strong wrist, her nails digging into his skin as the edge of the bookshelf bit into her spine.“I swear to God, I didn’t…” she gasped, her voice choking out as she struggled for air.“I didn’t start… any of this!”“Wrong answer,” Charles growled, tightening his grip around her throat. The pressure increased, and Spirit could barely breathe. She gasped for air, her eyes rolling back slightly as a wave of dizziness washed over her.“Please… it’s not what you think,” she stammered, her words coming out fragmented and trembling. But Charles didn’t care. His large frame pressed closer, completely cutting off any avenue of escape. His eyes burned with unforgiving, murderous rage.“You think th

  • YES NURSE   28. The Body Bag Threat

A voice floated through the air as she passed a group of medical scribes.Spirit’s body froze in the middle of the hallway. It’s happening. It’s actually happening.Chloe hadn’t been exaggerating at all. The rumor had mutated into something far worse in less than an hour.It was spreading like wildfire, and if it kept moving at this rate, it would reach the hospital board before the afternoon was over. And worse…It would reach Charles.Right on cue, a heavy silence fell over the entire unit.Spirit snapped her head around, and her heart did a terrifying somersault. Her stomach dropped so low she felt like she might actually pee on herself.Charles had just appeared at the far end of the hallway. And he looked like he was about to murder everyone standing in his path. His body was rigid and every veins bulging on his his forehead showed he’s on the brink of exploding. He marched down the center of the corridor with long strides, his icy blue eyes sweeping over the surrounding staff,

For ten agonizing seconds, the only movement in the room was the slow drift of dust in the morning sunbeams.Spirit’s hand remained suspended in mid-air, the palm burning as if she had struck an open flame instead of human skin. The vibration of the impact rattled right up to her elbow. Then, t

A mocking chuckle vibrated through Charles’s chest. “You’ve got a lot of nerve for a rookie, Nurse Browne,” Charles murmured, straightening to his full, imposing height.
