The alarm jolted me out of my sleep. I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was a few minutes past seven. If I planned properly, I was going to be punctual to work this time around. I couldn’t give Duncan another opportunity to lecture me about punctuality.Yesterday was already chaotic enough; I wanted today to be a calm, easygoing day.I got out of bed, even though I still feel a little tired because of how chaotic yesterday was. As IChapter 26Alyssa I know I’ve seen him around speaking to Duncan on several occasions but I never really understood what his relationship with him was. I doubted whether he was working here at the company or if he was just a friend of Duncan because he had never introduced him. Duncan’s expression looked calm when he saw him so I could tell that he was already expecting him. He stepped in and walked directly to Duncan’s desk. I could see the tension between the two of them for some minutes while no one said anything. Duncan soon started the conversation asking about some reports. I tried to concentrate on my work, I really did but I was also curious to know what they were talking about because it was starting to sound serious. “I’m trying to make you understand that it’s not stable yet over there.” Steve continued. Not stable? What wasn’t stable? I leaned closer just enough to hear the
Chapter 25Alyssa I stood in front of the mirror, fully scanning the outfit I was wearing. It was a fitted skirt and a floral top that was just long enough to be tucked in. The skirt hugged my figure perfectly. This was exactly what I wanted. I noticed the way Duncan stared at me on the first day of work, before complaining that I was drawing attention. What he didn’t want to admit was that I had caught his attention too. I went ahead to leave the first few buttons of the floral top open. This was what Lyra wanted to do but she couldn’t do it well.I didn’t mind teaching her how it’s done. I knew she had a liking for Duncan since the first day. That's why she hated me so much because she saw me as a threat. How pathetic. Duncan would never look her way but she could be delusional all she wanted, it was fun to watch. With me, it was going to be way different. Duncan had no other option than to fall
Chapter 24Duncan The wind blew violently. I righted my grip on her wrist, not daring to let go for a second as the tornado roared around us. The sky was dark and thick, assuring me that if I let go of her, I wouldn't be able to find her. “Alyssa, hold on,” I yelled at the top of my voice. I couldn’t see her face clearly anymore, so the only thing reassuring me that she was still with me was the hand I was holding on to. But the wind was too powerful and it kept on dragging her away. It took a lot for me to try to hold onto her. Her clothes were already torn, and her hair was completely messed up. Her hand slowly slipped away from mine while I struggled to maintain balance. “Duncan please don’t let go.” She begged with feet evident in her tone. “I won’t!” I yelled in an assuring tone. But the current became higher and it almost swept me off my feet as well. Her hands were really starting to sli
Chapter 23Alyssa By the time I finished all the food that was plated for me, I felt like a stuffed pig that was going to blow up any moment from now.The thought of why more food made me nauseous. I couldn’t live with this. And I hoped this would never happen again. The doctor said not to skip meals but she never asked me to turn into an ogre in a month. I leaned on the chair, gently rubbing my stomach. My entire body felt stiff. “Yayy, she finished it all,” Laura said, clapping her hands excitedly. “That’s very good. The Alpha would be very pleased.” Sara said, before walking away, as if she had just completed a very difficult task. “Now that you’re done with that, we have several desserts you’re going to like..:” I didn’t even let Laura finish talking before interrupting her. “No way! Don’t even mention the word food to me again. I think I’m going to puke..”“But the chef prepared the
Chapter 22Alyssa My eyes opened slowly, as the harsh sun rays shone on my face. I tried moving to the other position but the body ache I felt woke me immediately.I looked up at the ceiling. It looked familiar, almost too familiar. It wasn't the same as when I woke up yesterday in the hospital. I tried understanding what was happening but the splitting headache I had almost made me lose my mind. I gathered up strength and pushed myself forward, sitting up on the bed. I was back in my room. But how? I kept on waking up in different places every single day. How did I get here? I recollected falling asleep at the hospital with Duncan sitting beside me after being surprisingly nice to me the entire evening. Was this some dream?Did yesterday even happen? The hospital? Porridge?I pinched myself and was very certain that I wasn’t dreaming or anything.
Chapter 21Alyssa I woke up with my body hurting all over. I slowly opened my eyes, gently scanning the whole room with the bright lights almost blinding my eyes. The life machine beeped slowly, reminding me of where I was. The hospital.I tried collecting what happened last night, but the more I tried to recollect, the more my head hurt. And then I saw him. Duncan was kneeling beside me with a look I had never seen before. For the first time, he actually looked scared. “Duncan?” Those words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.He moved closer to me, obviously excited that I was awake. Did I hit my head too hard? Because when did he care about me so much?“Thank goodness, you’re awake.” His voice sounded so tense which only made me more suspicious and confused.A nurse stood nearby, checking the machines and the drip that was attached to my hand.
