Chapter 55

I paced the enormous living room one more time, which was a feat considering I was still on crutches. I had moved into Jordan's condo so he could help me after I got out of the hospital, and I had found myself wondering why I had not done it before. He had twice the space I had, not to mention Mrs. Lichten seemed to take some joy in taking care of someone again. If that was truly what her grumping meant.

"I don't care, Jordan, this is ridiculous! Have you tried calling him again?" I asked, frustrated.

"You know I did, Lizzie. He's still not answering," he responded, sounding kind of lost.

I stopped in my pacing to look over at him, and my heart twisted in pain. Jordan sat on the couch with his elbows braced on top of his knees and his head buried in his hands. He looked depressed, defeated, and almost hopeless, and I knew this was killing almost as much as it was me. I maneuvered over to sit down next to him and poked him in the arm a couple of times until he finally gave up and pulled
