“Darla, is that you?” A voice called out to her from the bathroom.
Of all the room I could have jumped into, it had to be his, it was the moon Goddess way of telling me that we were meant to be together. I waited for him to step out fully, taking in the view of his new room. It was different from anything I have seen before, except for the odd alarm clock on the wall, which looked kind of familiar. Every other thing was luxurious and beautiful as the Alpha’s room should be. He stepped out with nothing but a towel around his waist. “You” his eyes darkened as he moved hastily towards me. “What the hell are you doing here?” His voice was distasteful, more of grunt. He was displeased to see me here. “How many times do I have to tell you that I do not want to see you again, I warned you to never show your face to me again” he spat. It felt like I was speaking to a wall but I had a feeling that my mission was not in vain and I could get him to listen to me. “I missed you” my tone softened. He has never raised his voice at me, not until all this began, yelling back wouldn’t prove anything for me. “What the hell is that supposed to me?” he ran a finger through his hair pacing back and forth. “You will leave this instant or else I would call the guards” It was like staring at a different person entirely, I wonder if he was always like this or I was too blind to see who he really was. “Please you have to listen to me.” “Leave, the same way you got in, you must leave now or I swear I will have your head Lylah” “I was going through your things when I saw this, a letter that you wrote to me. Maybe this will help you remember” I spoke as if he had lost his memory of me, he never did, he just chose to deny me and yet my heart couldn’t accept it. He was the only man I have ever loved, it’s hard to move on from your first love, it’s a toxic trait you can’t get away from until the hit becomes too unbearable. I was already heading that way. I thought of killing myself a couple of times, i had no family, no one that I could talk to, he was all I had. He took the letter from me, “What is this?” “Read it” Before I could complete the sentence, he had ripped it into pieces. The same way he had broken my heart into thousands of pieces. “Let me make this clear to you Lylah, its over between us, I don’t want you” “It’s not true, you love me” “I do not, I don’t love you at all. You are nothing to me. So I suggest you pick yourself up and move on. You are becoming a worthless mess” he pulled away from me like a plaque but I moved closer instead, refusing to believe his words. “It’s me Lylah, your Lylah” I closed up the distance and inched forward for a kiss. To get a taste of him, to make him remember me, to feel me. “Stay the fuck away from me” he wrapped his fingers around my neck knocking the air out of my lungs, I lost balance and fell to the chair behind me but his grip didn’t falter. “What the hell is going on here?” Darla asked standing by the door. I turn to her. Her face turned into a frown from the minute she laid her eyes on me, standing behind her were two guards. “You” I seem to be hearing that more often. Like I was a ghost who had just come back from the dead. “Arrest her” she ordered. The guards yanked my off the chair by my arms. “You have some nerves coming in here, you will regret this” she said. I was locked up in the packhouse cell, the pungent smell of urine filled the air almost making me choke. Everywhere was dark with not a single window in sight, I swore I caught sight of bones on my way to the cell. Pushed against the cold floor, my hand became damp, it was a tiny cell, there was not enough space to breath or stretch. The black steel door was shut, a peephole in the center of it. I felt something moist crawl against my feet, I could barely move to know exactly what that was. The sound of hissing was all I could hear until I felt a sharp sting. A snake had bitten me, my body began shaking as its venom spread through my body fast. “Help” I tried to yell as white foam splurge out my lips, soon my body collapsed against the tight walls, my chest laid on the walls while my legs were stuck too between the knee and the heels. All I saw was darkness. *** I slowly opened my eyes to a dark room, feeling breathless, my body was wet from the sweat and it was cold between my legs. It was hard to tell what time it was considering every hour felt like night time. There was no sign of Thane either, he wouldn’t bother to see me. My stomach grumbled as my way body was shaking, it was fighting the venom of the snake and was slowing healing me. I could hear footsteps from afar then it got closer, until the door was finally opened, I was yanked out by the arm by a guard, once I was out of the cell, my body dropped to the ground. I couldn’t feel my legs as they were weak and nimble, I barely knew how to walk. “Get up” the guard commanded, finding my predicament as a burden. I tried to but I just couldn’t move. All that was supporting earlier was the tight walls that held my body upright, now that I was out, I realized that my body was weak and unable to function anymore. His fingers curled around my hair as he yanked my hair backwards, “don’t you dare play games with me?” He cursed. “Help me” was all I could whisper. Instantly he saw the snake bite on my left leg, “You’ve been bitten, how is that possible?” He asked as if the cells weren’t dirty and dark enough for a snake to take habitation in it. I bet they were many more and that was why most of the prisoners didn’t survive. “We have to hurry, you have been summoned” he informed me as he picked me in his arms, my body was as light as feather for an 18 year old. “You need to gain some weight” I could hear Thane tease me when he used to pick me up, he claimed he could carry me all day and wouldn’t break down from how light I was. He would throw me over his back as his brown wolf sprinted through the woods for a run. “Did Thane ask for me?” I demanded. “Quiet” he ordered, refusing to exchange pleasantries with me. Once we were out of the dungeons, a bright light shone on my face, my eyes squinted in reaction. I have no idea where he was taking me, my body was already falling and I seemed to be going into a state of shock. The next thing I heard was a loud voice ringing in my right ear, “What the hell happened to her?” “She was bitten by a snake in the cells” the guard responded as he dropped my body against the cold concrete. My eyes were heavy but I tried to open them. We seem to be in what I would describe as the court room. A long table was in front of me, surounded by six people, three on each side, I could recognize the Beta Thorax and the Gamma Cane. Sitting in their front left was the Commander, Commander Sage. The rest seemed to be the elders of the pack, old enough to have seen three Alpha reign over the pack. The curse of Bloodmoon pack came with immortality, we were allowed to live longer than most packs, it was a way of the goddess punishing us, making us stay light years to realize how essential a fated mate was to our lives. Right in front of me, were two seats, on my left was Darla, the soon to be Luna and on my right was Thane, the soon to be Alpha. His eyes were sharp and unpleasing as though he had expected me to die in the cells. “You are summoned here today on the grounds of seducing the Alpha-to-be, what do you plead?” Commander Sage asked. “Not…” my head dangled as I tried to get the words out of my mouth. “Not…” I whispered. In a second, freezing water was splashed all over my body. The coldness snapped me out in a minute, regaining part of my senses. “What do you plead?” Commander Sage demanded. My eyes were clear and I could see him, he sat close to her, his hands reaching for her, completely ignoring my presence. On her hand was my ring, the promise ring that he had given to me, he stared at her like she was the only thing in the room. I didn’t matter. I stop existing in his world. It was the harsh truth that I was beginning to accept. “Not Guilty” I said unable to withdraw my eyes from him, staring at how he doted over a woman he had just met, giving her the same treatment he used to give me. Was it that easy to love someone? “Are you calling the Luna a liar?” The commander snapped. I shifted my gaze to her and she had been staring at me all these while as I gazed at Thane. Her eyes beheld belittlement for me, I was an insignificant thing in a world that belonged to her. “No” “So what were you doing in the Soon to be Alpha’s room and h

I immediately wrapped my arms around him, “I knew you would come to your senses. I knew you would choose me over her.” “Get the hell off me” he pushed me down to the ground. I could see the hatred in his eyes, this was the same man who claimed to love me for three years, the same man I was to be consummated with. Now he treats me like I disgusted him. How could love turn so easily to hate, could he have hated me all these while but hid it so perfectly. “I want my ring back” He said to me. I was in utter disbelief. This was a ring he gave to me as a profession of his love. He didn’t come back for me but for his ring, he was cutting off all connections, taking away anything that could remind me of him. “No, I won’t give it to you. You gave it to me” “Give me the ring” he yelled. I bet the pack inside could hear him, the dominance from his tone made me shiver, as if he had already taken over the Alpha title. I slipped the ring out of my finger and placed it into his h
“Noooo” were the words that escaped my lips before I could move. The whole room turned to me and so did Thane, just for a brief second he saw me and his eyes lit up in shock. Was he expecting me to stay home when he left me waiting for him for hours. “Silence” the commander ordered. I couldn’t bear to lift my head because of the authority he had laid over the whole room. The sound of a needle could be heard from a hall so quiet. “Are you sure this is the one you want Darla” he asked her. “Yes” I could hear her say boldly. The whole room heard it and so did my sinking heart. I slowly raised my head to find Thane beaming for joy over being chosen. My Thane. “What is your name?” “Thane Anthra, son of former Beta Anthra” he rung out. He hated telling people that his father was overthrown, he was ashamed of that dark path of his family but today he wore it like a coat, proud to be part of ranked members. It gave a sort of leverage knowing that he was once from a rank
Lylah POV: The Bloodmoon pack had inquired the wrath of the moon goddess Selene and was therefore cursed. We were no longer allowed to have fated mate, unable to enjoy the feelings of a sacred bond between our mates course through us. It was a curse that lasted for 600 years, so for 600 years, we abided by it. The name Mate no longer had such significance anymore. *** “I can’t wait for you to turn 18” Thane said to me, a smile polished on his face as we sat by the waterfall. It was our favorite place to me, quiet and serene. He held my hand in his and I beheld his eyes, those soft brown eyes that have only looked at me for 3 years. We are to be consummated tomorrow under the full moon, a testament of our love together. I was to be his and he was to be mine. Even without the mate bond, I felt it in my heart that he was my mate, it was a sensation I knew in my heart every time I saw him. “I can’t wait too” I responded, limping for joy over the big day. We had only
