Chapter 4

Autor: Cutie Kitty
The caption read, "I was craving cherries, and someone immediately bought me a whole box. Baby and I are definitely feeling spoiled!"

The comments were full of congratulations and people saying how jealous they were.

I looked around the quiet apartment and laughed bitterly to myself.

We had both been pregnant, but while Liam catered to Victoria's every need, I had gone to the hospital alone for an abortion. He didn't even know I'd been pregnant.

In the past, a post like this would've sent me spiraling. I would've been so hurt that I'd probably have cried my eyes out. But this time, I felt surprisingly calm.

I liked her post and left a comment. "Wishing you both a long and happy life together."

Then I called Julian. "Julian, I want to move back home."

He picked up almost immediately. "I'll come get you right now."

"Okay. See you soon," I said softly.

I'd barely hung up when Liam's low voice sounded behind me. "Who are you meeting? And what's with the suitcase?"

I froze. I had no idea when he'd gotten back or why he was home so early. The last time Victoria had so much as sprained her ankle, he'd stayed with her all night.

When I didn't answer, his expression darkened. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

I looked at him coldly. "It's none of your business."

I grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door, but Liam caught my arm.

He frowned. "I already told you, Victoria and I were only putting on an act. So why did you have to leave that sarcastic comment on her post?"

A chill settled over me.

So that was why he'd rushed home. He'd come back to confront me on Victoria's behalf.

I expected him to lose his temper like he usually did and start throwing things around. Instead, he suddenly laughed and ruffled my hair.

"Come on, don't be mad. Are you really that jealous? You even packed your bags just to get back at me? You really went all out. I swear, everything that happened today was just for show.

"That proposal was supposed to be for you. Victoria came to me at the last minute and begged me to help her. I couldn't bring myself to say no, so I changed the plan. If you don't believe me, look. Your name is engraved inside the ring!"

Liam pulled out the same diamond ring Victoria had worn earlier that day. Then he dropped to one knee and looked up at me, his eyes full of tenderness.

"Natalie, will you marry me?"

If this had happened before, I would've been moved to tears and said yes without a second thought. But now, all I could think about was the fact that he'd already slipped that ring onto Victoria's finger.

The thought made me sick.

I scoffed, took the ring from him, and tossed it straight into the trash.

Liam's lips pressed into a thin line, and his expression hardened. "Natalie, what's that supposed to mean?"

I gave him a flat look. "I don't do secondhand. Not rings, and definitely not men. Liam, we're done!"

Liam's face darkened, his expression grim. "Done? Are you finished throwing your tantrum yet?"

I ignored him, grabbed my suitcase, and headed for the door.

Liam strode after me and blocked my path, his jaw clenched. "You're actually leaving? Natalie, keep this up, and it won't be funny anymore."

I looked at him coldly. "Do I look like I'm joking? I don't have time to keep playing along with your little act."

That finally made him realize I was serious. He held my suitcase down, refusing to let go. "You're moving out over one fake proposal with Victoria? Natalie, when did you become this petty?"

I couldn't even be bothered to answer.

As we struggled over the suitcase, the paperwork from my procedure slipped out of my pocket and fell to the floor. Liam moved faster than I did. He bent down and picked it up.

The moment he saw what was written on the page, his expression turned serious.

Arthur said, "I heard something sweet can cheer you up. My treat. Have as much as you want."I smiled at him. "Um, thank you. For what you did back there, and for this."Arthur smiled back. "Still so polite with me, Nattie?"Nattie? The familiar nickname made me freeze. I took a closer look at him.I hadn't really gotten a good look at him before, but now that I had, something clicked. His eyes and features looked unmistakably familiar.Arthur was my childhood best friend, the boy I had grown up with before he moved abroad years ago. He had always called me "Nattie," and I had called him "Artie."We had grown up together and were practically inseparable until we finished high school. Then Arthur's family suddenly moved overseas.Everything happened so quickly that we never even got the chance to exchange contact information before he left. After that, we lost touch. Then I got together with Liam, and he became the center of my world. Little by little, Arthur faded from my thou

"You're Ms. Elling, right? I'm Arthur Floyd.""Nice to meet you."I couldn't explain why, but something about him felt oddly familiar. He handed me the menu and told me to order whatever I wanted. I had just started looking through it when someone suddenly rushed over."Natalie, you're my girlfriend. How can you go on a date with another man behind my back?"Every head in the restaurant turned, and people immediately started watching the drama unfold. Before I could react, Liam stormed over, grabbed my wrist, and tried to drag me away. "Come home with me!"I immediately yanked my hand free. "Let go. We broke up a long time ago!"Liam only tightened his grip. "I never agreed to the breakup, so it doesn't count. Natalie, I know you're still angry with me because we lost the baby, but we can have another one."Come on, stop being stubborn and come home with me."Across from me, Arthur froze. "A baby? Natalie, you were pregnant?"Liam immediately wrapped an arm around me, lookin

After that, Liam started contacting me from a new number, desperately trying to win me back."Natalie, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please come back."Babe, I miss you so much. I'm going crazy without you!"I ignored every single message. Funny how sorry he was now, when it was already too late.I blocked the new number without hesitation. There was no chance I was ever going back to him.I thought that would finally make Liam give up. Instead, he showed up at my house. I had just gotten home from work when I spotted a familiar figure waiting outside."Liam? What are you doing here?"The moment he saw me, he hurried over and pulled a cup of hot chocolate from beneath his coat. "Here, Natalie. Your favorite. I kept it close so it would stay warm."I froze.Back when we first started dating, he used to do the exact same thing. Whenever he picked me up from work, he'd bring me hot chocolate and tuck it inside his coat to keep it warm. But somewhere along the way, he stopped. At some

Liam was about to leave with Jonah to get a paternity test.Victoria panicked and rushed to stop him. "No, you can't! Liam, Natalie's only saying all this because she's jealous of me. She's trying to come between us. Don't fall for it!"I've never lied to you. Don't you trust me? If you go through with that test, it means you never trusted me or believed in what we had!"Liam stopped, clearly wavering.I wasn't about to let Victoria talk her way out of this. I'd waited far too long to see Liam's reaction when the truth finally came out, so I decided to give her one last push."Why are you so desperate to stop him, Victoria? Got something to hide?"The crowd immediately started murmuring in agreement, and Victoria shot me a vicious glare. In the end, Liam went through with the paternity test anyway, and I tagged along to watch the show. The results came back soon enough. The second Liam read the report, his face darkened with rage. He threw it to the floor and slapped Victoria

A second later, Liam stormed over. He helped Victoria to her feet, scooped the baby up from the floor, then turned and slapped me hard across the face."Natalie, have you lost your mind? You're jealous because Victoria had my baby, so you took it out on him?" he snapped. My face hardened. Without hesitation, I slapped him right back. "I didn't drop the baby. Victoria did it herself to frame me. And I have nothing to be jealous of because that child isn't even yours!"Liam froze, disbelief written all over his face. "What did you say? He's not mine?"He turned to Victoria, a hint of suspicion creeping into his eyes.Victoria went pale and bit her lip, but she recovered almost immediately. Then she threw herself into Liam's arms and clung to him, her voice catching as she spoke."Liam, don't listen to Natalie. How could Jonah not be your son? You were there for me throughout my pregnancy and even when I gave birth! Are you really going to doubt me just because she's trying to come

Soon, all my hard work finally paid off. I passed the exams and earned my management certification, along with several related credentials. With Julian's recommendation, I landed a job as a hotel manager. And of all people to run into on my first day, it had to be Liam and Victoria. They were there to hold a one-month celebration for their baby. That was when it hit me that Victoria had already given birth. Somehow, eight months had flown by.The moment Liam saw me, he raised an eyebrow and gave me a mocking look."Well, what a coincidence, Natalie. So this is where you work now? At the front desk? If you'd just listened to me and married me back then, you could be sitting at home enjoying an easy life right now."Instead, you ended up working as a receptionist."Victoria stood beside him with the baby in her arms, looking just as pleased with herself."I really should thank you, Natalie. If you hadn't stepped aside, I never would've gotten this lucky and ended up with a husban
