Chapter 5

Autor: Cutie Kitty
"You're… pregnant?" Liam asked.

I thought he would ask why I'd ended the pregnancy. Instead, his face darkened. He barely glanced at the paperwork before tearing it to shreds and throwing the pieces in my face.

"Victoria gets pregnant, and suddenly you're pregnant too? Are you seriously trying to compete with her for my attention? After everything we've been through, is this how little you trust me?"

I almost laughed.

The nerve of him. He was the one who had betrayed me first. Yet without asking me a single question, he'd already decided I was trying to compete with Victoria.

And somehow, I was the one who didn't trust him.

I couldn't be bothered to argue. I gave him a flat look. "Think whatever you want."

Just then, Julian called to say he'd arrived.

I was done with this. I pushed past Liam and headed for the door.

When he realized I was actually leaving, his temper flared. "Fine. Go! But if you walk out that door, don't even think about coming back!"

I didn't stop. I only walked faster.

When I got home, Julian cooked a huge dinner to cheer me up. After we ate, I took a long, hot bath.

I was getting ready for bed when a message from Liam popped up. "Victoria, didn't you say you wanted roasted chestnuts? Do you want the regular ones, the small sweet ones, or both?"

So he'd texted the wrong person.

In the past, a message like that would've sent me into a jealous spiral. I would've called him immediately and demanded an explanation.

But now, accidental or not, I wasn't going to let anything Liam did get to me anymore.

I forwarded the message straight to Victoria.

She replied almost instantly. "See? Liam loves me, not you! Natalie, if you know what's good for you, you'll get out of the way now. Save yourself the embarrassment of getting dumped later!"

I couldn't be bothered to respond. I was already getting sleepy, so I yawned and got ready for bed.

Just then, Liam started bombarding me with calls and messages. He called more than a dozen times and sent me 99 voice messages.

"Natalie, have you lost your mind? Why did you forward that message to Victoria?

"I know you're at Julian's. Are you done throwing your tantrum yet?

"When are you going to grow up? Do you seriously have to run back to your family every time you get mad?"

Liam used to say he loved how childlike I was. He said I was innocent and carefree, and he found it adorable.

But now, those same qualities only seemed to irritate him. To him, I was being unreasonable and making a fuss over nothing.

I guess that was what happened when someone stopped loving you. The things they once found charming became flaws overnight.

I replied coldly, "Wasn't that message meant for Victoria anyway? Or am I wrong?"

Liam didn't answer.

That was fine by me. I went straight to sleep.

After that, Liam seemed determined to get a reaction out of me. He started flaunting his relationship with Victoria all over social media.

He posted pictures of them cheek to cheek, holding hands, and showing off meals he'd cooked for her himself.

I got sick of seeing it, so I blocked him and deleted his contact.

But that didn't stop him. He started putting on the same show in front of Julian instead, and every time, Julian came home complaining about it.

"That jerk Liam was at it again today! Victoria doesn't eat cilantro, so he actually sat there picking every piece out of her food for her. He's completely whipped!"

I laughed bitterly to myself.

Liam used to swear I was the only woman he'd ever treat that gently, the only one he'd ever spoil. We had barely broken up, and he was already giving Victoria the same tenderness he'd once reserved for me.

So much for all his promises. In the end, none of them had meant a damn thing.

A few days later, Julian told me Liam had arranged a party to help me get over the breakup. He'd even picked out a man he thought would be a good match for me and planned to set us up.

Even after we'd broken up, Liam still went out of his way to provoke me.

I was about to refuse, but Julian wouldn't hear of it and dragged me along anyway.

Arthur said, "I heard something sweet can cheer you up. My treat. Have as much as you want."I smiled at him. "Um, thank you. For what you did back there, and for this."Arthur smiled back. "Still so polite with me, Nattie?"Nattie? The familiar nickname made me freeze. I took a closer look at him.I hadn't really gotten a good look at him before, but now that I had, something clicked. His eyes and features looked unmistakably familiar.Arthur was my childhood best friend, the boy I had grown up with before he moved abroad years ago. He had always called me "Nattie," and I had called him "Artie."We had grown up together and were practically inseparable until we finished high school. Then Arthur's family suddenly moved overseas.Everything happened so quickly that we never even got the chance to exchange contact information before he left. After that, we lost touch. Then I got together with Liam, and he became the center of my world. Little by little, Arthur faded from my thou

"You're Ms. Elling, right? I'm Arthur Floyd.""Nice to meet you."I couldn't explain why, but something about him felt oddly familiar. He handed me the menu and told me to order whatever I wanted. I had just started looking through it when someone suddenly rushed over."Natalie, you're my girlfriend. How can you go on a date with another man behind my back?"Every head in the restaurant turned, and people immediately started watching the drama unfold. Before I could react, Liam stormed over, grabbed my wrist, and tried to drag me away. "Come home with me!"I immediately yanked my hand free. "Let go. We broke up a long time ago!"Liam only tightened his grip. "I never agreed to the breakup, so it doesn't count. Natalie, I know you're still angry with me because we lost the baby, but we can have another one."Come on, stop being stubborn and come home with me."Across from me, Arthur froze. "A baby? Natalie, you were pregnant?"Liam immediately wrapped an arm around me, lookin

After that, Liam started contacting me from a new number, desperately trying to win me back."Natalie, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please come back."Babe, I miss you so much. I'm going crazy without you!"I ignored every single message. Funny how sorry he was now, when it was already too late.I blocked the new number without hesitation. There was no chance I was ever going back to him.I thought that would finally make Liam give up. Instead, he showed up at my house. I had just gotten home from work when I spotted a familiar figure waiting outside."Liam? What are you doing here?"The moment he saw me, he hurried over and pulled a cup of hot chocolate from beneath his coat. "Here, Natalie. Your favorite. I kept it close so it would stay warm."I froze.Back when we first started dating, he used to do the exact same thing. Whenever he picked me up from work, he'd bring me hot chocolate and tuck it inside his coat to keep it warm. But somewhere along the way, he stopped. At some

Liam was about to leave with Jonah to get a paternity test.Victoria panicked and rushed to stop him. "No, you can't! Liam, Natalie's only saying all this because she's jealous of me. She's trying to come between us. Don't fall for it!"I've never lied to you. Don't you trust me? If you go through with that test, it means you never trusted me or believed in what we had!"Liam stopped, clearly wavering.I wasn't about to let Victoria talk her way out of this. I'd waited far too long to see Liam's reaction when the truth finally came out, so I decided to give her one last push."Why are you so desperate to stop him, Victoria? Got something to hide?"The crowd immediately started murmuring in agreement, and Victoria shot me a vicious glare. In the end, Liam went through with the paternity test anyway, and I tagged along to watch the show. The results came back soon enough. The second Liam read the report, his face darkened with rage. He threw it to the floor and slapped Victoria

A second later, Liam stormed over. He helped Victoria to her feet, scooped the baby up from the floor, then turned and slapped me hard across the face."Natalie, have you lost your mind? You're jealous because Victoria had my baby, so you took it out on him?" he snapped. My face hardened. Without hesitation, I slapped him right back. "I didn't drop the baby. Victoria did it herself to frame me. And I have nothing to be jealous of because that child isn't even yours!"Liam froze, disbelief written all over his face. "What did you say? He's not mine?"He turned to Victoria, a hint of suspicion creeping into his eyes.Victoria went pale and bit her lip, but she recovered almost immediately. Then she threw herself into Liam's arms and clung to him, her voice catching as she spoke."Liam, don't listen to Natalie. How could Jonah not be your son? You were there for me throughout my pregnancy and even when I gave birth! Are you really going to doubt me just because she's trying to come

Soon, all my hard work finally paid off. I passed the exams and earned my management certification, along with several related credentials. With Julian's recommendation, I landed a job as a hotel manager. And of all people to run into on my first day, it had to be Liam and Victoria. They were there to hold a one-month celebration for their baby. That was when it hit me that Victoria had already given birth. Somehow, eight months had flown by.The moment Liam saw me, he raised an eyebrow and gave me a mocking look."Well, what a coincidence, Natalie. So this is where you work now? At the front desk? If you'd just listened to me and married me back then, you could be sitting at home enjoying an easy life right now."Instead, you ended up working as a receptionist."Victoria stood beside him with the baby in her arms, looking just as pleased with herself."I really should thank you, Natalie. If you hadn't stepped aside, I never would've gotten this lucky and ended up with a husban
