Wiping the tears away from her face, Anaya moved away from the door and headed into the closet to get a cleaner shirt. In the bathroom, she cleaned off the sticky juice from her arm and torso before putting on the navy blue T-shirt.

Taking a look at the mirror, she dabbed at her red eyes, trying to hold herself from crying even more. Maybe she was just overthinking this. Maybe it was her hormones acting up again.

She tried to convince herself that there was no way Theresa would have targeted her unborn child. She was overanalyzing a simple slip of the hand.

And besides, she wasn’t sure a glass falling on top of her stomach could kill the fetus. Or maybe it could and Theresa knew that which was why she aimed for her tummy.

“Here, it’s French toast. Your favourite breakfast.” Anaya held the fork close to Ryle but he turned his face away.“I don’t want that.” He huffed. “Can’t I have the remaining pizza?”“We don’t eat pizza for breakfast, Ryle. You had enough yesterday.” Anaya said, directing her glare to Theresa who was eating quietly from across her.“But Aunt Theresa said–”“Aunt Theresa is new to the house and doesn’t know we have rules to follow. Too much pizza is not good for you, Ryle. You’ve already visited the hospital countless times this year. Do you want to miss school again?”Ryle pouted and crossed his arms over his torso. “But I don’t want to eat that.”“Greta prepared this specially for you. Do you want her to be sad if you don’t finish your food?”Ryle shook his head.“Good. So, eat now.” “You don’t force children to eat what they don’t want.” Theresa muttered before raising the cup of tea to her mouth.“When you have a child, you can give them whatever you want. Ryle is my son and I wi

Anaya sat down in the dark, looking at nothing in particular. She had given Ryle a bath and helped him with his homework, despite his whines.Greta had put him to sleep after that and Anaya knew she had no appetite for dinner so she simply showered and told Greta she was going to bed.Henry had already called her this afternoon that he would be home late tonight due to an urgent meeting. She had tried to sleep but failed hopelessly so she sat up and stopped trying. She decided to wait for Henry because she had something to tell him and she couldn’t wait any longer. The exchange of words she had with Theresa this evening was still ringing in her head. She hated how she was unable to retort Theresa’s statement. Maybe because she might have been right. Theresa did have more right over Ryle because her blood ran through his veins. And she didn’t have a right to deprive her from spending time with Ryle. But Anaya wasn’t ready to give up on her marriage, her house and her peace because of

Anaya closed the door behind her as she stepped into the living room. Her face hardened when the sight unfolded before her.“Hi, mommy!” Ryle waved at her with a mouth full of pizza and sipped from his coke, the TV playing his favourite cartoon. “Hey, Anaya.” Theresa was seated next to him, resting her back on the chair and crossing her legs as though she were the madam of the house.“What is all of this?” Anaya asked, gesturing to the carton of pizza, junks and fast food on the table. Ryle was still in his uniform and it was just an hour to dinnertime.“What do you mean?” Theresa asked innocently as though she didn’t know what she did.“Where’s Greta?” Anaya looked around the house, knowing if she was here, she wouldn’t let Ryle eat this type of food.“She went out to urgently get something from the grocery shop.” Theresa answered.Anaya walked into the living room and turned off the TV. “Mommy! I was watching that!” Ryle whined and she looked at him sharply. She so badly wanted to

“Who is in your house?” Maia let out with shock as her eyes widened.Anaya sighed, rubbing a hand over her face. She knew Maia would be baffled to hear the news but she never expected her to be this horrified.“Exactly as you heard, Maia. My husband’s late wife’s sister.” Anaya replied, typing away at her laptop as her friend and secretary stared at her like she had grown two heads with five horns. She was feeling a lot better this morning so she decided to stop by at the office. Due to her severe morning sickness, she hadn’t been able to come to her company for the past two weeks. All meetings had either been adjourned or she had Maia represent her. She was feeling guilty that Maia was taking on more than she could handle which was why she tried to work at home with every chance that she could get.As her best friend, she also deduced that Maia should know the current situation going on in her house.“W-What. No, I mean, why? Why is she in your house, Anaya?” Maia asked, her face con

“Long time no see, Margeret.” Anaya smiled as she welcomed her mother-in-law into the house. When Margeret called her this morning that she would stop by in the afternoon on her way from her office, Anaya was overjoyed. Margeret had been more outgoing these days and Anaya was happy to see her stepping out of the shell she placed herself in after the truth about Hana was revealed.“Hey you.” Margeret returned her smile and pulled her in for a tight hug. “Pregnancy looks so good on you.” “What? Don’t flatter me, I feel the exact opposite.” Anaya huffed as they walked into the house.“Henry told me about how extreme your morning sickness can be. I brought some fruits to help you with that. Let me help you peel the oranges.” Margeret said as she moved towards the kitchen.Anaya wanted to stop her from going there but decided against it as she would find out now or later. Following behind Margeret, she paused when Margeret stopped in her tracks at the entrance of the kitchen.Theresa, who
