There was also a side door inside the therapy room. Beyond it lay a sea of flowers, designed to soothe patients.

Agnes opened the side door. "Mr. Gray, you only have ten minutes."

"Thank Sheldon for me," Evan said before stepping into the therapy room.

Beverly was sleeping peacefully on the recliner, her delicate face still marked with tear stains.

Evan sat down beside her and gently took her hand in his. "Bev."

Though she should have been deep asleep, Beverly still heard Evan and caught the familiar scent of cedar. She opened her eyes. Yet, because of the essential oil, she wasn't fully conscious yet and thought she was still dreaming.

The moment she saw Evan, she raised her hand and slapped him hard.

The sharp smack rang in her ears, snapping her fully awake.

She pulled her hand out of Evan's grasp and looked at him coldly. "It was your fault. You hid my condition from me and cost me my daughter."
