Chapter 3

Author: Tiny Turquoise
Luther froze for a few seconds, clearly annoyed. "Don't be stubborn right now. I know how awful it feels when the Lustra poison kicks in. I can help ease it. Elise is the weakest in our pack. Without me, she can't handle it. You should understand that."

"It's fine. I don't need it anymore. Stay with her."

Luther blinked, looking as if he hadn't expected me to be this generous. "Fine. These pills will help your body recover later. Take them."

He pulled a small vial from his coat and set it at the doorway, only for Elise to step on it and crush it.

"Sorry! I'm so clumsy. I'm just too weak to control myself. Lilith, please don't blame me! I'll pick them up for you. It's all my fault!"

Elise crouched and fumbled on the floor, grinding the pills into dust.

Luther stopped her and held her hands, checking them carefully. "Don't bother picking them up. You'll hurt yourself."

"But what about Lilith's medicine—"

"She's got hands and feet. She can make her own medicine. Leave it."

Everyone knew that ever since I'd blocked a silver blade for Luther, my body had never been the same. Even climbing a hill exhausted me. And gathering herbs for medicine meant hiking a thousand‑foot mountain.

"It's not easy to make pills. What if Lilith cheats and sneaks some of your supply?"

"Then I'll break her hands," he said coldly.

The words pierced my ears and threw me back into memory.

Yes, I had secretly used his things once, when I was 17.

We were out hunting and both got hurt. My wounds were worse because I'd shielded him.

The pack's witch gave us a healing potion.

The stuff was horribly bitter, but Luther's face didn't change when he drank it.

I was curious, so I secretly lifted his bowl and tasted it.

That tiny act had turned me into a laughingstock. They all thought I loved Luther so much that I'd drink from his bowl.

He smashed the bowl I'd touched and broke my hands, turning me from the Alpha's savior into a pathetic prisoner.

If I hadn't saved him, he would have thrown me out of the pack altogether.

I turned to leave, but Luther blocked me.

"Don't you need help neutralizing the poison? Let's do it now. I'm free."

"I told you, I don't need it anymore."

I pulled my reddened hand from his grip and looked at him with blatant impatience.

Luther gave a low laugh, then suddenly pinned me against the wall, forcing me to meet his eyes.

"You don't need me to neutralize the poison? Then who's gonna do it for you? Look at yourself. Do you think anyone would want you except me? The seer said that I'm your fated mate anyway. Why are you fighting your destiny?"

He locked eyes with me while communicating with me through mind link.

I tilted my head up and laughed carelessly. "Why do you care so much? Are you in love with me?"

Seeing as I refused to answer directly, Luther leaned in closer, his shadow covering me completely.

"I can kick you out of the pack. Try me," he growled with his teeth clenched.

His eyes were bloodshot, veins standing out on his neck.

I shoved him hard. "That would be perfect. I've been wanting to leave the pack."

"What's this? Are you giving up on me because you've found someone else?"

He smashed a wine glass against the edge of the table and jabbed the shards into the wall behind me. "If you dare betray me, I'll never forgive you. You'd better not regret it!"

Elise rushed out, grabbing my hand and trying to make me kneel. "Lilith, are you trying to piss Luther off so he'll notice you? That's a pathetic trick. He doesn't like you acting this way!"

Luther's anger cooled when he heard that. He stepped back a few paces, regaining his usual confident look.

He was sure I wouldn't leave him. After all, I'd secretly loved him for years and nearly died saving him.

Downstairs, murmurs spread as more people gathered. Some had overheard everything and began spreading the news. Soon, the whole pack knew I was leaving.

They even started betting on how soon I'd come back to apologize.

"I'm calling three days!"

"You're giving her too much credit. I'll wager a bottle of healing tonic that she'll be running back here in three minutes!"

I ignored them and walked straight out of the pack's territory without a single glance back.

Luther watched me go, calmly sipping a glass of red wine. "I'm sure you'll be back within a day."

Before I got far, Elise caught up, teasing nonstop. "Gosh, I wish you'd walk faster. I'm glad you're leaving. Once you're gone, Luther will forget you and love me forever."

I clapped my hands and laughed. "Ha! Keep dreaming. The seer said whoever marries you will lose their whole pack. Do you really think Luther will marry you?"

I stepped around her and kept walking.

Sawyer had already been waiting outside the pack for a while. When he saw me, he pulled me into his arms.

"Have you decided? If you establish a mate bond with me, you won't be able to divorce me. Till death do us part."

I held his hand and kissed him softly. "Trust me. With me here, death won't be on the table. You'll become an Alpha King, and I, your Luna Queen."

Elise held her face, eyes wide with disbelief."You really think I had feelings for you? If it weren't for your status, I wouldn't have even looked at you!"Elise was the daughter of the Alpha from the neighboring pack. I only found out after I was reborn. But Luther had known from the start. He lured her close, then passed the buck when things didn't go his way.Elise yelled, "I'm gonna tell my dad about this! I came all the way to the Darkfang Pack for you, and now you're betraying me for another woman?""Shut up! Lilith is my fated mate. You're the outsider here! Besides, your pack has already been taken over; your dad's not even in charge anymore. What do you even have left to threaten me with?"In my previous life, Elise had once cut Luther with a knife during an argument. In this life, I didn't know how their story would end.Luther shoved Elise to the ground and stepped over her, coming straight toward me."I'm really sorry, Lilith. I've changed. Sawyer tossed all the silver items into a lockbox and pressed the key into my hand."This way, nothing can hurt you."I held the key, still lost in thought, until Sawyer leaned down and kissed me. That brought me back."Goodnight, future Luna Queen," he whispered."Goodnight," I murmured. The lamp went out. Sawyer tucked the covers around me and quietly rolled to the other side of the bed, but I grabbed him and pulled him back."We're mates," I reminded him.His gray-green eyes glimmered, tears of excitement sliding down his cheeks.Later, when I went out to buy supplies, I ran into Elise again. She ordered a burger with fries and sat across from me."Not bad," she said, smirking. "Using one man to provoke another. I have to say, it's a clever trick. But it doesn't matter. When you were around, Luther favored me. You leaving won't change that."Her eyes narrowed. "Still, I can't believe you chose to marry Sawyer, a half-blood werewolf. Seems like you're setting yourself up t

But right then, my phone buzzed. It was the pack's group chat. Before, no matter how many messages I sent, they would never reply. Now, they were reaching out on their own.I skimmed it quickly. Most of the messages asked why I'd given up on Luther, and whether I was just throwing a tantrum or serious.I didn't reply to a single one and immediately deactivated my number. Before I could answer Sawyer, Luther restrained his men in the living room. A silver gun lay snapped in two at their feet.Luther stormed in, blood soaking his clothes. "Lilith, come with me, please."His Beta ran after him, pleading, "You're hurt. Let's go back."Luther shook his head stubbornly and kept moving toward me. "Lilith's here. I won't go back if she doesn't."The Beta, who knew our relationship best, couldn't help complaining. "You're the one who pushed Lilith away! Why do you want her back now?"I nodded in agreement and raised the Bible Sawyer had been holding. "Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fru

After I left, Luther couldn't sleep. His chest often felt tight, as if something heavy was pressing down on him.Elise walked in carrying a glass of warm milk, trying to soothe his restlessness. "Lilith's just throwing a tantrum. The more upset she is, the calmer you have to be. Don't let her get under your skin. Like everyone else said, she'll be back in three days once she cools off."Luther nodded, doing his best to hide how uneasy he felt. Before he could take the milk, a memory of me from our past life flashed before his eyes. He saw me, with blood pouring down my back after shielding him from a silver blade. Even then, I was whispering with a smile, "I'm fine."My eyes were full of despair as I died, but I never once blamed him.Luther wasn't sure if it was panic or anger, but he suddenly lost control and shifted into his wolf form. Kicking open the manor window, he leapt out and ran, his nose following my scent deep into the forest.Pack members saw their Alpha barrel

I didn't answer Luther. I just kept staring off toward the far west. That was where Sawyer's pack, the Graymoon Pack, lived.I was going to marry him and help him become the Alpha King.Since I stayed silent, everyone assumed I'd accepted Luther's proposal. They raised their glasses to congratulate him."Luther, we look forward to you leading our pack toward a better future! Let's celebrate!"Luther didn't say a word. He casually lifted his crystal glass and drained it in one long swallow. Then he stepped right up to me, leaning close to whisper with a quiet laugh."Marrying me is your dream come true, but let's get this straight—you don't get a say in my private life."Before I could respond, Elise spoke up. "Alpha, I…" She trailed off, her eyes overflowing with love as she stared at Luther.Luther swept her up in his arms and held her against his chest. "You're hurt. You should rest."His gaze on Elise was full of tenderness. She had ruined his plans to conquer other pa
