Chapter 6

Sawyer tossed all the silver items into a lockbox and pressed the key into my hand.

"This way, nothing can hurt you."

I held the key, still lost in thought, until Sawyer leaned down and kissed me. That brought me back.

"Goodnight, future Luna Queen," he whispered.

"Goodnight," I murmured.

The lamp went out. Sawyer tucked the covers around me and quietly rolled to the other side of the bed, but I grabbed him and pulled him back.

"We're mates," I reminded him.

His gray-green eyes glimmered, tears of excitement sliding down his cheeks.

Later, when I went out to buy supplies, I ran into Elise again.

She ordered a burger with fries and sat across from me.

"Not bad," she said, smirking. "Using one man to provoke another. I have to say, it's a clever trick. But it doesn't matter. When you were around, Luther favored me. You leaving won't change that."

Her eyes narrowed. "Still, I can't believe you chose to marry Sawyer, a half-blood werewolf. Seems like you're setting yourself up t
