LOGINEmma’s POV
“What did you just do, Lila?” I snapped. “I ruined someone’s clothes, and you dragged me out without even letting me apologize properly!”
“He’s a powerful man, bestie,” Lila said, rolling her eyes. “Do you think any billionaire in there would accept your apology? District V isn’t just a club..it’s where power lives. Mafias, billionaires and both good and bad. We don’t even know who you spilled your drink on.”
“Wait...you didn’t see his face?” I asked, stunned.
“Nope. Just the figure from afar. Look, I know you’re pissed I dragged you away, but I was scared too,” she admitted.
I sighed. “I get it, Lila.”
Minutes later, we reached home. It was almost midnight. I took a quick shower and sank into the soft bed.
So much happened today..back in New York, the club… and that man. If he starts looking for me? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. It was an honest mistake, but… he was ridiculously hot. Tall. 6’1, maybe 6’2.
And his eyes… they held something I couldn’t place. Like he’d been waiting for me. Longing? That wasn’t possible… but that look… it lingered. His lips… sharp, commanding… I had to shake my thoughts away. Charming. That was all.
A knock thundered at the door, jolting me upright.
“Holy crap!” I shouted.
Lila barged in, grinning.
“What was that for?” I asked, my heart racing.
“I want to sleep with you! I missed my baby!” she exclaimed, diving onto the bed and dragging me with her. Memories from our childhood came flooding back..this was our thing, back then.
“I missed you too, love,” I laughed as we hugged and fell asleep.
A week had passed since I returned. Lila and I were checking off our long list of New York adventures but not even halfway through. I’d visited my favorite coffee shop. I missed Mr. Patrick’s coffee.
Now, I was home alone. Lila was at work, planning the week’s exclusive New York Fashion events. I was proud of her.
Finding a job had been hard. Most positions weren’t what I wanted. But yesterday, Lila told me about an opening.
“Walton Apex Capital has a personal assistant position,” she said. “Number one in New York. You’re perfect for this.”
I opened the company profile. Walton Apex Capital wasn’t just an investment firm it was a global powerhouse. Private equity, asset management, restructuring undervalued companies, scaling them into market leaders. They didn’t just invest they controlled.
They held billions in assets across technology, energy, real estate, healthcare, logistics. Majority stakes in tech startups, energy firms, luxury hotels, office towers, industrial facilities. Silent shares in international banks and transportation companies.
Everything calculated. Diversified. Strategic. Aggressive expansion. Restructuring. Profit. Reputation: efficient, powerful, unsentimental. They didn’t participate in industries they influenced them.
I was in awe. This was the kind of company I wanted to work for. Passionate, driven, strategic.
I clicked the job link Lila sent, completed the questionnaire, uploaded my CV, and whispered my quickest prayer ever: “Let it favor me, Lord.” I hit submit.
I looked at the time. Late. Lila would be home soon. I needed to make dinner.
I scanned the fridge and cupboards. Ingredients for creamy spaghetti..perfect. Spaghetti, sausages, bell peppers, onions, cream everything landed on the counter in quick succession. Simple. Fast. Exactly what I needed.
Twenty-five minutes later, dinner was ready. Lila walked in, smelling the food.
“Wow, it smells amazing!” she said, settling on the couch.
“Go freshen up, my husband, then come eat,” I teased.
“Yes, wifey!” she laughed, dragging herself to her room.
We ate. She complimented my cooking skills. I credited mom. She shared her stressful day at work.
“I’ve applied for the job,” I told her mid-bite. My phone pinged. My eyes widened.
“Holy Mary!” I gasped.
“What?” Lila asked.
“They want me for an interview… tomorrow.”
“Go! Reply yes!” she said, bouncing with excitement.
“Are you crazy? I’m not ready. Zero prep!” I panicked.
“Calm down, Emma. You got this. Smart, capable… still a little time to pull things together,” Lila encouraged.
I nodded, typed my reply, sent it.
We stayed up late, prepping. Lila made it easier, like she always did.
Morning came. Lila’s voice called me awake. “Emma, alarm off!”
Groggy, I turned it off. 6:30 a.m. I needed to leave before 9 a.m. for the interview.
Lila left early after a good-luck kiss.
I checked the mirror. Navy tailored suit, cream blouse, nude heels. Hair glossy, flowing down my back. Sleek. Bold. Perfect.
Booked a ride. Mind racing. Dream job, chance of a lifetime. The city flashed past the window, filled with possibilities and tension.
“We’re here,” the driver said.
The building screamed power, authority. I stepped inside, feeling both awe and determination. Every step echoed in the marble hall, everyone moving with purpose. My heartbeat quickened.
Receptionist smiled warmly. “Good morning. How may I help you?”
“For the interview,” I said.
Directed. Others waiting. Faces of past candidates passed by not all pleased.
At exactly 9:00 a.m., I was called in.
The office was flawless sleek, powerful, commanding. But then my eyes landed on the man behind the desk.
Time stopped.
My heart raced.
Every thought froze.
He looked… unreal. Sharp features. Dark, intense eyes that seemed to see right through me. Commanding. Unyielding.
This is not happening.
I swallowed hard. My legs felt like lead.
And then, slowly, he lifted his gaze and locked eyes with me.
For a moment, the world outside that office didn’t exist.
Everything I’d imagined about Walton Apex, this job, this moment ...it all blurred.
Because in that instant, I knew… nothing would
ever be the same again.
And I wasn’t sure I was ready for it.
And I wasn’t sure I was getting this job… Lila has killed me.
Lila's POV"How many do you need?" the fish seller asked."Two," I said, looking around the local market. I'd never been here before. A colleague at the office had recommended it after I mentioned craving fish soup.I paid and made my way back to the car. The moment I got in, my phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number.I clicked on it."Hi, it's Sophia. Come to Mr. Patrick's cafe. I'll be waiting until you show up. It's about Emma."I stared at the screen for a second, then scoffed. She's lost her mind. She still has the audacity to reach out to me. "It's about Emma?" I laughed out loud to no one. The nerve of this girl.I started the car and drove home.By the time I got in it was already evening. I set the fish on the counter, got the soup going, but something didn't feel right. That feeling, the kind that crawls under your skin and won't leave kept gnawing at me. My mind kept circling back to those three words. It's about Emma.I stared at the pot on the fire for a long
Emma's POV I stopped walking and turned around, half expecting him to be right behind me.He wasn't.That made me even more pissed off. What was I expecting from a workaholic. I hissed under my breath and headed for the beach.I found a quiet spot and sat down. The beach was beautiful. Couples everywhere, some making out, others laughing and splashing in the water without a care in the world. Watching them only made me anger at Alex burn hotter A familiar voice pulled me out of my thoughts."Hi, Emma."It was Maya. She was in a bikini, her skin glowing in the afternoon sun."Can I join you?" she asked."Sure," I said, though a part of me wanted to say otherwise. She sat across from me, sipping her fruit drink, and then she looked me dead in the eyes."Isn't Alexander too much for you to handle?" The question caught me off guard. What kind of business partner asks something like that."Not at all," I replied, keeping my voice steady even though I could feel annoyance rising in my ch
Emma's POVHe locked eyes with me, something like a question in his gaze. Then he spoke, his voice dropping lower.“I thought you said you weren’t a virgin.”Heat rushed to my face at once. I bit my lip, suddenly shy under the weight of his stare.“Does it hurt?” he asked, worry written all over his face now.“Yes... a little. But I don’t want you to stop,” I admitted, shamelessly honest. His eyes never left mine as he continued, slow and careful, as if he was trying to read every reaction on my face. The pain slowly began to fade, replaced by a sweeter feeling I couldn't think straight. My left hand fisted the bedsheet. My right found his neck and pulled him down to me and I kissed him like I needed to hold onto something. His other finger found my clit and I moaned right into his mouth. At first the pace felt too slow, almost like torture."Faster, MyAlex..." I whispered against his lipsHe obeyed without a word. His pace picked up and then he went down again, his tongue and fingers
Emma's POV "Good to see you, Alexander," she said, her smile polished and easy the moment she reached us.I quickly glanced at Alex. To my surprise, he was smiling too."Good to see you too, Maya." They exchanged a quick cheek greeting like people who had done it a hundred times before. "What are you doing here?""Business," she said. "But I'm done now so I thought I'd check in here and decompress a little." Then she turned and looked at me like she had just remembered I was standing there.I had almost rolled my eyes. Almost."Emma, right?" she said, smiling at me before looking back at Alex."Yes, she is," Alex said, and his hand came to rest at my back. She looked at me again, this time properly. "I've been wanting to meet you. You're so much more beautiful in person, the pictures really don't do you justice.""Thank you," I said, and I meant it even if I was still quietly deciding how I felt about her."And you are?" I asked."Oh God, where are my manners." She laughed and exten
Emma’s POV“MyAlex... are we going on a private jet?” I asked the moment my eyes landed on it.“Yes, love,” he replied, taking off his sunglasses. “Come on, let’s get in.”It was my first time stepping onto one. I walked through the entrance slowly, taking it all in. It was beautiful.Once we were in the air I pulled out my phone immediately. I wanted pictures, videos, everything. Alex had settled into the seat across from me and had his laptop open before we had even leveled out, fingers already moving across the keyboard.I stared at him.I stared for a full minute waiting to see if he would notice me or at least look guilty. He did neither.I stood up and walked over and stopped right in front of him. He sensed me before he saw me and his typing slowed and then stopped. He looked up.I gave him the most unimpressed face I could manage."Just thirty minutes, my love," he said, and his voice had that soft pleading quality he only used when he already knew he was losing. "I'll be done
Alexander's POVThe moment I got home, I went straight to my study. I needed to check something.I sat down, opened my laptop and searched for Emma's background report the private investigator had sent me weeks ago. Leaning back in my chair I scrolled through the file her name, family, school, friends. Routine stuff. Then I scrolled further and a picture appeared. Emma. In a hospital bed. Bruises covering her face, her arms, every visible part of her. She looked small in that bed. Smaller than she had any right to look.I leaned back slowly and inhaled deeply. For over two years, I had been longing for her without even knowing she was living through hell.I closed the laptop. The clock on the wall read three in the morning. She would be asleep by now. I pushed back from the desk and made my way to our room and eased the door open. She was there. Asleep on her side, breathing quietly, her face peaceful in a way that had no idea what I was carrying.Just looking at her made every word
Emma’s POVThe moment the car cleared the gates, my jaw dropped. The entrance was breathtaking, lined with a dreamlike tapestry of flowers that blended into each other. Before the car fully stopped, I pushed the door open, stepping into a world that felt entirely disconnected from the city outside.
Emma’s POVThe moment he leaned in and kissed me soft, quick: something inside me shifted. The realization hit me right there. I’m in love with Alex.It wasn’t just my body reacting to him anymore… it wasn’t just attraction. My heart was in it too.As we stepped fully into the event hall, my breath
Alexander’s POVKissing her wasn’t part of my plan. But the moment I leaned in, my lips brushing close to her ear as I whispered, “I’m sorry for the way I talked to you,” something inside me snapped.Control… I lost it completely.I wanted her. Not just close. Not just near. I wanted to taste her.
Emma’s POVHis lips claimed mine and my eyes stayed open in shock. The kiss was soft… gentle. Not deep. And I didn’t kiss him back. But his lips… they were exactly how I imagined.Soft. Warm. When he lightly sucked on my lower lip, a shiver rushed through me, sharp and sudden. My eyes shut instantl
