ログインChapter 4
Renee’s POV
When Tristan runs down to meet me, I can’t help but smile.
“Being away from you was crushing my heart,” he whispers and I giggle.
We say our vows and Tristian leans in before the kiss.
“If I ever take for granted how blessed I am to have you, may the goddess take my life and give you a second chance to find someone better.”
I smile at him and eagerly kiss him. At the reception, everyone comes over to congratulate us.
Tristian is engaged in conversation with several Alphas when I step away. The August sun is fading and a breeze is cooling the air.
“It’s absolutely beautiful out here,” Alpha Dexter joins me. “I think you will like Montana.”
I look at him and smile. “I think I will too. What is your pack like?”
Dexter smiles, “Right now is hot. Storms come in the afternoons and then its humid. But the water is peaceful and relaxing. Our ACs work overtime but they are reliable. The salt grass fills your nose and the pickle grass is turning sweet now.”
“Pickle grass?” I ask confused.
Dexter smiles. “It grows near the marsh. When you eat it, it tastes like pickles. Early August, it’s not ready yet. It tastes more like sweet pickles. Give it a few weeks and it will smell like pickles, taste like pickles, and the pups will eat all they can find.”
I turn to him. “Do you join them in the marsh collecting pickle grass and eating your fill?”
Dexter laughs a real laugh. “It’s a small grass, I’m an adult man. There isn’t enough to fill me up, but I do run barefoot with the pups through the marsh and pick some.”
“How old are you?” I ask, smiling at him.
“I’m 20 years old. Is that why you didn’t choose me?” He asks.
Ro-Why do I want to hold him and make him feel better?
Me-When do fated mates awaken?
Ro-In the old days when the goddess still showed favor, it was 18 but then the goddess punished werewolves to make it 21. Now there are no more fated mates. You have to choose wisely. I think we did.
I shake my head. “Tristian and I have a pull similar to fated. His eyes were the first ones I saw when I entered the room.”
Ro-Liar! We saw Dexter first.
Dexter nods. “Stand in front and catch their eye. Good plan. I’m guessing his money helps.”
I shake my head. “Not really. My dowry is enough that I could marry the lowest Omega without noticing a change in lifestyle. I like the idea of wide open spaces.”
Dexter nods.
Ro-He didn’t call you out for seeing him first. I like him.
“Renee,” Tristian’s voice gets my attention and I smile. He smiles and holds out his hand. “Your sister is leaving.”
I hurry to say goodbye and end up back in my bedroom with Tristian.
We leave the next day and when I see my new home, I feel at peace.
The rolling hills, valleys, and rivers are full of life but lonely at the same time.
The pack accepts me easily and I fall into a role quickly. Every morning I work with the pups teaching the basics. In my afternoons I train with the females, herd cattle, and make love to Tristian in the springs.
“I’m pregnant,” I tell him one morning.
Tristian smiles. “Today we take the day off, we chose baby names. We need a boy name and a girl name. We will set up a trust for them and when we find out if it’s a boy or girl we will have the name.”
I smile and we do exactly that. For all three girls.
“No more,” Tristian kisses my head after Hazel is born. “I can’t stand watching you go through this.”
“But we need a boy,” I say weakly.
“No, we have three beautiful strong daughters. Jade and Emeral are proof that girls are stronger than boys. Our pack is safe.”
“What about the kingdom?” I whisper.
“If the kingdom can’t handle my girls, that is the kingdom’s problem,” Tristian kisses my head.
Ro-Thirteen years together and he is still so amazing. I love him. I really love him.
After I feed Hazel, Tristan brings in our girls.
“My baby sister is beautiful,” Jade’s pigtails are bouncing on her shoulders.
Tristian looks down at the four of us with so much love in his eyes I can’t stand it.
Over the next ten years, my sister remains childless. She won’t come to functions. Enzo reports she is stricken over not being able to produce a child.
When I talk to her on the phone, she sounds more and more hollow. When she calls to wish Hazel a Happy 10th birthday she sounds stronger than she has in years.
“I’m pregnant,” Rachel says. “The ultrasound shows it’s a boy.”
My heart jumps and I look at Tristian. He gives a bright smile.
“Congratulations. That is wonderful news,” Tristian appears genuinely happy for Rachel and Enzo.
My heart hurts a little. I look at my girls.
Jade has grown into a strong rider and ranked number one among the wolfless class. Emeral is learning to fix equipment. The mechanics call her a genius. Hazel is also showing signs of superior intelligence. All three of my daughters are perfect.
When the invitation for the royal recognition ceremony comes, Tristian sends me and the girls to LA for a weekend to shop.
“Mom, I really like this one,” Jade shows off a silk dress with a slit to her leg. “If I get the tall heels, we won’t have to have it hemmed.”
I look at my little girl all grown up. “Agreed.”
When we return home, Tristian runs down to the pack gate and pulls me into his arms.
“I missed you so much,” his kiss is strong and I can’t wait for the girls to go to bed tonight.
Chapter 24Renee’s POV“He is going to make a sideways remark about us, but praise Rachel,” Dexter whispers making me laugh before Tristan starts speaking. Tristian’s speech is short and sweet.“Told you,” Dexter says when it’s all over. “Did he mean it?”I look at my mate, who is grinning like a fool. I know I have a smirk on my face and I check left and right. “Not a word.”Dexter and Keith laugh. “Well at least tomorrow we start back home. I can’t wait to get there,” Keith sighs. “I miss home.”I see him hold his head. “Headache?” I ask and he nods. “Switch to water.”“I am drinking water,” he shows me his glass. “It just won’t go away.” We all enjoy the rest of the shower and when the last guest has left Rachel, Tristian, Dexter, Keith and I are all standing in the foyer as the staff cleans up. “That mountain of gifts is nice,” Dexter motions to the four overflowing tables. “Yes,” Rachel rubs her belly and leans into Tristian. He stiffens. Dexter notices and remains
Chapter 23Rachel’s POV“Why are you so angry about this?” Tristian asks staring at me crying on the bed. “Do you love her? I know you wanted her,” My voice is tear choked and sounds helpless. “I felt like she needed protecting. So I protected her. I could have done a lot worse to him. All I did was punch him,” Tristian shrugs and looks at me without touching me. “What if I told you that in past life you were hers and you had three daughters. You left her to die in a fire, that is why she gave you to me this life.”Tristian sits on the bed and strokes my hair.“I would call a doctor and have your beautiful mind examined. Because that sounds crazy. Why would you run to the man who left your sister to burn alive?”“Because my mate was Enzo. He wanted a boy so badly he breed me for 15 years. I gave birth to 13 girls. He wouldn’t let me name them, hold them, or tell anyone they even existed. When I finally gave him a son he brought us all here. My girls set the palace on fir
Chapter 22Renee’s POV“What the hell just happened?” Daddy’s voice is loud and clear. He stands behind Rachel on the stairs. “Tristian defended Renee,” Rachel tells him before holding her belly and running away.Tristian watches her but without regret. “Some might say he overreacted,” Enzo says getting to his feet. “And put his nose where it doesn’t belong.”Tristian turns back to Enzo, his wolf at the surface. “Others would say Dexter was not fast enough and you deserve so much worse.”“As much as I hate to agree with Enzo on anything,” Dexter steps forward calmly. “I agree punching him was extreme. He was provoking me on purpose. I simply didn’t take the bait.”“You really going to stand there and let this man speak about your mate like that?” Tristian clinches his jaw and stares angerly Dexter.“He called her pretty. She is in fact gorgeous so I’m more offended he downgraded her to pretty than anything else. Why are you so angry?” Dexter is two inches taller than Tristian
Chapter 21Renee’s POV“Renee,” Rachel runs to me after breakfast. “What does Dexter know?”We have just left the table because Daddy called Dexter and Tristian to a meeting with the Betas. Ro-Just lay it out. She is going to cry no matter what. Be strong. She is supposed to be the strong one. “He knows everything. I told him everything.” I stand with my back straight. “That is why he is going after Enzo?” Rachel is breathing heavy and holding her belly. “What if Enzo retaliates?”“That is why Dexter brought in Dad,” I rub her arms. “Dad can cut off Enzo with one strike. Why you didn’t go to Dad in our last life I don’t understand?”Ro-That’s my girl! Offence!“Because I was hoping if I just gave him a son I could have my daughters. I was planning to talk to Dad after my son’s announcement. I didn’t know my daughters would do what they did.”My blood runs cold. “What did you expect them to do? You didn’t even give them names. You dragged them to the pack you were born
Chapter 20Renee’s POV“Get me out of here,” I whisper as Tristian strokes Rachel’s face. “Excuse me, my fated mate and I have some fated mate things to do. We will see you all at the Baby Shower tomorrow.”He lifts me off my chair and carries me away. In our room, he places me on the bed. “I love you,” he whispers as he helps me out of my clothes. “Bubbles or not?”I stretch and look at him. “Bubbles. I want Bubbles.”He nods and makes my bubble bath. “You want to walk in here or does my Queen need to be carried?” He asks with a smirk.“Only if my King is naked,” I tease and he quickly undresses. “That was fast.”“Benefit of youth,” he teases, making me laugh. We get in the bath together and without much foreplay at all, Dexter guides me down on to him with my back against him. I grip the sides of the tub as I move my hips. Dexter sucks on my shoulders and back.“Careful, marks. Baby shower tomorrow.”“Fuck it, I want all the marks all over you. I want everyone to know
Chapter 19Rachel’s POV“You okay?” Tristian asks as I stare at the place the boy just lifted my sister from.“They are actually fated,” I say shaking my head.“Yeah,” I hear the sadness in his voice. “She got her fated mate. Are you jealous?”I scoff. I was jealous in the last life, but I got him this life. Shouldn’t that be enough?“No. I love you,” I say to him and smile. Tristan kisses my temple and leads me for a walk through the gardens. It’s almost winter but the greenery is still alive.“This is beautiful,” Tristian says as we walk. “Is the cold air helping you feel better?”“This isn’t cold yet,” I tease him and he laughs. His real laugh. The real one. The one I love.“Yeah. It gets colder at home too. I kinda don’t like our daughter being born in the winter. I worry we won’t make it to the hospital or a doctor won’t make it to the packhouse.”“Does the weather get that bad? We are werewolves,” I walk beside him as we get close to Renee’s window.“You had to be
