Your Heart Or Your Duty

"I am Andra. The evolved luna of the great Alpha. Disobedience to the alpha is disobedience to the luna!" Said I, with tremendous self-esteem.

"I can see that my luna is readying herself for the day to come." The Alpha wolf said.

 I turned and glanced at him then pivoted my gaze to the floor.

"I am deeply sorry your greatness. I didn't notice your presence." I admitted guilt.

"You are the betrothed luna and you should be vigilant at all times. I expect you comprehend that." He said.

The Alpha stood straight, with acclaimed respect. His real name is Stallone but no one dared to call him by his name.

 The entire pack feared him.

 He was the most vicious and aggressive among us.

It is an honor for me to be betrothed to him.

"Yes, I understand." I acknowledged.

"Good. Make your way to my fortress right away." He said.

"I will do as your superiority desires." I responded.

He turns away and departs.

Let me give an introduction of myself to you.

I am Andra. The offspring of the most feared werewolf among my kind.

Several years back, I had been betrothed to the Alpha by my father to intensify the bond between my father, who was and still is, the strongest werewolf that served under the Alpha.

As the luna to be, I have been trained since my years of birth, to be violent and fierce. 

I presume this information about myself is sufficient enough for you to know my identity.

Although, my life as a human is quite the opposite of it, since we are not supposed to bring any suspicious eyes to ourselves.

I retired from what I was doing and went straight to the fortress of the Alpha. 

 I waited anxiously for his arrival for some minutes.

 Note that this is night time and we are all in our werewolf form.

Every night, we the werewolves gather at the fortress of the alpha and he decides which part of the forest we should hunt from. 

Although we slay creatures for feeding we still have to maintain the balance of availability of wildlife while haunting, so as not to run out of flesh to eat.

The alpha arrived at the fortress and all the werewolves arose and started to howl to acknowledge his presence.

He assumed his position on the throne and everyone kept silent.

"My fellow werewolves! Tonight there is going to be an extraordinary feast like no other that we have had in the past centuries!" He said.

I watched as he got up from his throne and moved a bit forth.

"In am sure you all know the motive behind this! The luna is taking her place next to me in two weeks!" He exclaimed.

All the werewolves growled and howled in rampage.

What i mean is, everyone of the werewolves were happy to hear the good news.

"Go! Spread out in the forest! Hunt as you please!" The Alpha announced.

With great speed and agility, the werewolves exited the alpha's fortress.

Showing their aggressive nature as always, the werewolves pushed against each other as they broke out the gates.

I set in motion to meet the alpha at his throne before i could take off with the rest.

"Your greatness. Here i am.- i said.

"Andra." He said.

The Alpha moved near to me and i could hear his breathing loud and clear.

"You are going to fully become the luna in the next two weeks. Do you understand what that means?" He said.

"Yes. It means that i have a duty to perform to you and the rest of the werewolves." I answered.

"Precisely. You also have to prove to them that you deserve to be the luna. I expect nothing from the so called heart from you. Understood?" He proclaimed.

"Yes your greatness." I answered.

"Love is weak. We werewolves are not meant to fall in love, even with our own kind. Every relationship here is strictly for no other reason but offsprings." He said.

"You may leave." He said.

I bowed my head and then headed out to hunt.

I proceeded deep into the forest silently. Searching through the bushes and sniffing through the air on all fours.

We werewolves have a great senses of smell, sight, hearing.

We similarly have great speed and agility.

We are very strong and very much capable of knocking off a car and throwing it to a distant length.

As i walked about in the forest i heard a noise from a far.

I quick sped up towards where the noise came from and it was a deer.

I attacked it rapidly and broke it's neck in two.

Immediately, i started to feast on it.

I heard something in the bushes and i stopped to listen properly.

The sound came closer and closer then i kept myself at alert.

I paid attention to every little sound around me.

Everything went silent for a moment and then i was suddenly jumped at by another werewolf.

I got out of the way instantly and the werewolf landed on the ground.

"I don't know why i keep missing my target. You certainly deserve to be luna." The werewolf said.

I know that voice from anywhere.

"Alyssa." I said.

"It's good you still recognize me." She said in a slightly growling voice.

"How could i ever forget the one who made my life a living hell?" I asked.

We kept going in circles focussing deeply into each others eyes.

I scoffed at her and she laughed.

"It's good to see you again." She said.

"Same here Alyssa." I replied.

"All these years of being betrothed to the alpha has made you so unavailable." She said.

"How do you mean?" I questioned.

"What do you think i mean? You are always so stuck in your duties and preparation towards being the luna that you forgot about me." She grumbled.

"It's not my fault and you know that. It is necessary that the luna maintains no close bonds with anyone, even the alpha himself..." I was saying.

"Relationships and love stuff makes you weak and bla bla bla." She interrupted my sentence annoyingly.

"You understand that i am the luna and should be spoken to with regard right?" I questioned.

"Yes your Majesty." She said with a bow.

She lifted her head and looked upright at me then ran off.

She will never learn.

I can't wait to go back home after this hunt.

If you were thinking that all the werewolves dwell in the fortress of the alpha or right in the same location as each other then you are mistaken.

We are outstretched all over the city and live amongst people but always meet each other at night, in the fortress of the alpha, just to know which part of the forest to hunt.

Not just that, we also debate on cases concerning some dangers we encounter.

There are two problems that the werewolves are facing and that is, humans and vampires.

Most humans don't believe that werewolves or even vampires exist but there is a particular group of people called the werewolf hunters.

The werewolf hunters hunt down werewolves and attack them.

I'm sure they have a leader, but no werewolf as ever been sure if his identity.

I wouldn't say kill because we werewolves have great healing abilities.

When ever we get hurt it vanishes almost instantly after it happens.

Werewolves don't attack humans at all. It used to be done ages ago but not anymore.

We are trying to keep the peace between werewolves and humans but the werewolf hunters keep trying to track us down.

We only kill those humans that hunt and attack us.

By the way that they keep struggling to attack us with numerous kind of weapons each time they don't succeed at first try, the alpha believes that they are striving to find out our weakness.

The Alpha ordered that we should try our best to avoid them while in our wolf form so as not to let them find out too much.

And then there are the vampires.

The vampires have been our enemies since the very beginning.

Werewolves and vampires have never gotten along.  

The Alpha, Stallone, and the leader of the vampires, vector, have been sworn rivals since i can recall.

The vampires, till now, still feed on human blood.

Vampires also trespass on werewolf hunting grounds.  

Many times, a werewolf and a vampire would clash with each other in a crucial fight.

As the luna, i am expected to take part in finding solutions to all these problems.

A wolf howled out of nowhere.

Every other wolf followed suit and so did I.

The howling meant that the hunt is over and its time for all the wolves to head back to where they come from.

Finally. I can get on home forthwith.

I started to run home with super speed just to make it before the morning comes.

I reach home in the twinkling of an eye.

I changed back to my human form while at my backyard and then searched for the house keys where i had kept them.

I didn't find it, which meant that my parents had made it back before i did.

I walked to the front door and entered the house.

"Welcome home luna." Mother said.

"This family is now the most respected and highly ranked amongst the werewolves." Father said.

"It's all thanks to you father." I said.

I left them and went straight to my room.
