My body went numb, the only sound I could hear was the fast paced beating of my heart colliding with a high pitched ringing.
It made no sense. It must have been fabricated. The door to her apartment was left ajar and I became hesitant to let myself in. But I knew I had to check. To see for myself. "Ugh! Yeah baby! Fuck me hard! Harder! Oh yeah! Ahh!" My feet slowed as my sister's voice rang in my ears. Standing by the opened bedroom door, it all played out in front of me just like the recording I had received. My knees grew weak from the sight that played before me. My own husband, having intense sex with my own sister. "Oh yeah... Just like that..." My sister's moans bounced off the walls right at my face, syncing with the momentary squeaking of the bed. I should have known, it was always her. It had always been her. Even though he proposed to me, pronounced his vows to me at the altar, promised to love me forever, it had always been her. Ella has always been the apple of everyone's eyes. Even at home. Our parents favoured her and gave her everything she wanted while I was treated as an outcast and no more. My body moved subconsciously, having pity on me as my gaze averted from the soul crushing scene. Tears clogged my vision and my heart banged against my rib cage like it so desperately wanted to escape. A vibration cut through the continuous moaning of my sister, my phone glowing with a message. [It must be clear to you now who Jacob truly loves. Stop deceiving yourself and pretending to be someone with value.] When I received that video at work, I should have known that my mother was the one behind the strings. Seeing her text now confirmed it. How could she be so heartless? Sending me such a video at work? And now a text like this? What could I ever have done to deserve such cruelty from the ones I loved? Who was to blame for this? My own husband who had been deceiving me while sleeping with my sister behind my back? Or Ella who had always despised me and wanted everything I ever laid my hands on? Or my own mother who always backed her up? None of them were to blame. It was all my fault. I had purposely ignored the signs that brightly shone at my face. When my husband suddenly grew distant a few weeks ago, hardly ever sleeping at home and blaming it on work. When my sister spelt it to my face that she would take everything that belonged to me. When my own mother told me to give up my useless dream of ever becoming someone in life and just live as Ella's shadow. I chose to ignore everything because I loved them sincerely. I so desperately wanted to. I was such an idiot. Five years of being a devoted wife gone into the trash like it never meant anything. I bet they laughed at me and mocked me while I was busy trying to be the best wife. How could they treat me like I was just a game piece? A puppet desperately waiting for its strings to be pulled! I wiped my tears, swallowing hard enough to choke myself. Tucking my phone into my bag, I walked out of Ella's apartment, the clicking of my heels trailing after me. I didn't know how I managed it, but I drove myself home safely. Tossing my keys on the table, I sank into the couch and tried to steady my heart by taking several calming breaths. Alone with nothing but my thoughts, tears shrouded my vision once more and I sobbed silently into my pillow. All my life, sadness had tailed me around. Who knew he would find me in my marital home as well? The sound of a car pulling up in the front yard drew my attention and I knew it had to be him. My heart was heavy, my soul was fuming, but I wiped my tears and sat up straight on the couch. Usually, I would run up to him to meet him halfway to the living room, but I remained seated. I felt my heart pounding, any moment from now, I would be staring back at those deep blue eyes that once provided peace for me. He walked into the living room, Ella's scent spilling from every part of him. How dumb did he think I was? That I would not recognize my own sister's signature scent? His blue eyes sparked with curiosity, his brown hair a little messy from his earlier "activity". "Hey babe, what's wrong?" His voice, once a soothing pill, caused a chill to run down my spine. "You look a little sick. Your eyes are puffy too. Are you okay?" A laugh escaped my mouth, a reaction I could not control. With a sigh, I asked, "where have you been?" Knowing well where he was. "At work of course." He responded, taking off his coat. "As expected." My voice was calm. Calm enough to scare me. I rose to my feet, adjusting my skirt as I did. "I'm going to ask you one last time, Jacob and if you have a little humanity left in you, you will tell me the truth. Where... Were... You?" "What is this?" He asked with a scoffed laugh. "What is the meaning of--" I shoved my phone in his face, playing the video my mother had sent me. I watched as his brow arched in confusion and shock then his tongue slipped out and licked his lower lip, with his hand resting on his hips. "How did you get this?" He questioned, slapping my hand away from his face. "What is this supposed to mean?" I scoffed a laugh. Even with evidence, he still refused to come clean. As heavy as the words weighed on my heart, I knew I had no other choice. "I want a divorce." He broke out in a sinister laugh. My skin crawled.Dad tapped me gently and I blinked, his touch pulling me out of my thoughts. "Are you there? You zoned out for a while.""Oh uhm, yes. I was just... Thinking about something. So what about you, how do you already have a grandchild that isn't from me?" I arched my brow as I asked him. He smiled softly and rubbed his hands on his thighs. "Well... After I left, I was so heartbroken and also broke literally. I didn't have a single dime. I couldn't even invest in any business anymore. I knew I had to start over. "I lived on the streets and did so many dirty jobs to feed myself a meal in a day. It went on like that for a year until I had enough to rent a place. I got a white collared job thanks to my qualification. Plus I was young. During my internship, I got close to the daughter of the woman who sold fast foods close to work. They made deliveries too and she always brought things to my doorstep even when I didn't order. "I still felt guilty about your mother because I truly loved her,
The rest of the day went by peacefully, dad had told me about his new family and how he would love to introduce me to them very soon. He spoke about his new job as a gym instructor in a gym he owned. He had done a few white collared jobs over the years with enticing payment but he realized it just wasn't for him. Not that he was bad at his job, in fact, he thrived so well and was promoted to the position of the managing director in his last job. But he just didn't feel like such a job was his calling. Three years ago, he got into the gym business and it had been thriving ever since! I was proud of my dad. My step dad as well. He was the general manager of the company he worked at. It was a car dealing company but they also offered services as well. They were both thriving in what they did which put my mind at ease. My step dad eventually went to join Fabian to play with Gemma and I was left alone with my dad. We didn't make any conversation at first and simply watched them as th
I couldn't believe that my dad had purchased it from my store. His next words took me by surprise. "Notice anything else?" He spread his hands wide apart and gave me a little spin to show me everything on his body. I scoffed a laugh in utmost surprise. Staring at him fully, I noticed that his wristwatch, necklace and chained bracelet and even shoes were all from my collection. "Oh my goodness…!" I was speechless. He chuckled softly and happily. "Even my face wash and soap and lotion, everything! They are all from Gemma's collection cosmetics." I felt fresh tears well up in my eyes. My dad had been with me all this while without me knowing. I couldn't help but to pull him into my arms and hug him again. ***We all sat down at the table and enjoyed all the luxurious meals the restaurant had to offer us. It was a nine course meal. I thought I hated my dad, I thought I would curse at his face when I saw him, I thought I would walk out after telling him I no longer needed him in my
My step dad stared at me and I saw a flicker of worry in his eyes. He smiled widely and said; "of course! You see, the only problem I always have with that man is the fact that he never keeps to time. He's always tardy. "It could be a minute before we have to leave here but he will definitely show up before we leave. Don't worry." I nodded my head and my lips curved into a sad smile. "Alright. Thank you."He smiled in response and caressed my hand softly. "Can I say hello to her? Do you think she will play with me?" "She's very friendly." I responded. He didn't wait for any more words before approaching Gemma. "Hey there little one! You look so cute like my daughter when she was your age." His words took me by surprise. "Daughter? You have a daughter?" He looked up at me and smiled. "I have three kids. First one is seventeen, second one fifteen and my last is ten years. All three beautiful girls." "Wow… I don't know if I'm surprised or happy." "Don't let your bubble burst yet,
It was almost as if Fabian noticed how anxious I was, he reached out and placed his hand on mine. I turned my head to meet his gaze and our eyes locked. He smiled. "Everything is going to be alright." His voice was soft and soothing, almost like a medicine to my wound. But his smile was more infectious. I couldn't help but smile myself. I turned to check on Gemma in the back seat– he had even installed a baby seat in his car just because of today– who was oddly quiet. She was focused on her iPad, enjoying her games. I decided not to disturb her. Knowing she was alright was peace to me. We arrived at the location they had given us– it was a high end restaurant. A young bright looking lady was at the receptionist table. She gave us a brighter smile and bowed her head. "Good morning and welcome to heaven's taste. Do you have a reservation?" Fabian spoke on behalf of us as I had asked him. I was too nervous to put words together properly. "Good morning. We have a reservation. We a
I couldn't let it show how much it had hurt me to hear those words. They were right after all, what difference would be between my mother and I if I let the same thing repeat itself?I looked up at him and managed a smile. "Could you please just… maybe play along? I don't want to break her little heart.""Hey." He moved closer to me and cupped my face in his palm. "I will do whatever for you. Don't worry. Besides, I care about Gemma too and the last thing I would ever want is to break her fragile heart." A sad smile curved on my lips. As the heated conversation came to an end, my attention returned to his clown-like make up and I chuckled. "You don't know what you look like." A smile tugged at his lips and he whispered into my ear. "My make up is prettier than yours." I hit him on the chest playfully and we both shared a laugh. The rest of the day went by so quickly. I had spent so much time sorting the documents for work while also trying to make myself available for Gemma. The
