Prologue

"Wake up!" The loud harsh voice shouted as banged his hand against the door.

Tierra quickly stood up from the uncomfortable bed. She glanced around, watching as the others wake up. "Wake up, I say!" The loud voice shouted again.

Tierra and the other ladies quickly grabbed their baskets and walked out the tiny room.

"Move along." The man said. "You have a lot of work today."

The ladies walked outside. They stood in a line, looking at the soldier who was pacing back and forth.

"Alright, listen up." He said in a loud voice catching the women's attention.

"The king is having guests over this evening, so some of you are not working in the field today." He said. Tierra bit her lip praying that she won't have to work in the kitchen.

Please God, anything is better than that. She thought.

"Kelly, Neidi, Heidi, Nora and Tierra. You'll be working in the kitchen. The rest of you will be working in the field." Tierra sighed.

Great. She thought. That's all I need. She mentally rolled her eyes.

"Get to work!" The man yelled. The five ladies quickly made their way to the into the palace, all the way to the huge kitchen.

Tierra has no idea what to do, after all, it's only her second day here and she already hates it.

This is what they will do for the rest of their lives. No rights, no hope, no dreams. Just working for a mean greedy king.
