Arriving at the bakery, I peeked through the window to see if Laura was inside. However, the glass was too foggy and I couldn’t see through it. I then entered the bakery and looked around. But to my dismay, she was nowhere to be found. I then looked for Grandpa Ben but even he was nowhere in sight. And I wasn’t about to ask Ronald so I figured it was better to ask someone else. I walked over to another worker and asked, “Excuse me, madam?” She was quick to turn around and smiled. “Good day to you, sir. What can I help you with?” “I was wondering if Grandpa Ben or Laura arrived today,” I said. “My apologies, sir, but Grandpa Ben left an hour ago. He is yet to return. I’m not sure when he will be back but I presume he’ll be here later,” she replied. “What about Laura?” I asked. “Laura hasn't been here since this morning. We’re not sure why but it’s either she accompanied Grandpa Ben or she is ill,” she explained. “Is there anything else that I can help you with? Perhaps, you have

“Should I become a horse, will you treat me just the same?” “Mallory, I’m not in the mood to have another argument with you,” I said as I kept my focus on Lady. I added, “I have too much in my mind right now. I have too much in my life right now. I can’t afford to waste time on another debate with you.” “Is it because of Laura?” she asked as her footsteps slowly approached me. I remained silent and proceeded with what I was doing. She was now aware of my feelings for Laura. But that didn’t mean that I owed her any explanation. “It’s Laura, isn’t it?” she repeated as she stood beside me. “Why does it matter?” I asked, irritated. I faced her and continued, “What is it to you? If I admit that it’s because of her, what will you do?” “That day when I introduced you both to one another, I saw the stares you shared,” she started. I returned to Lady as she continued, “I saw the horror in your eyes and the pain in hers. I’m not that stupid to allow that to go unnoticed.” I walked towards

As soon as she saw us arrive, she immediately stood up and curtsied as low as possible. “Gonzalo, you may leave,” I said, my eyes never leaving Laura. “Are you sure, Your Highness?” he asked. “There’s no need to worry, Gonzalo,” I smiled at him. “She’s a friend of mine. Kindly take care of the letter.” Gonzalo bowed and left me with Laura. “Laura?” I called out gently as I approached her. “Come now, Laura. There’s no need for that,” I helped her up. Lifting her face, I smiled even more as I was very pleased that she was here. “You don’t have to do such formalities when it comes to me.” “Don’t be silly, Robert. You know that I have to do that,” Laura replied, fiddling with her fingers. “I am in your realm, your kingdom. I must pay you the respect given to you here.” “Laura, you’re no different from me. Therefore, you don’t have to be all ceremonial whenever you visit me,” I explained, unable to contain a growing grin. Looking at her frame, it came to my attention that she wasn’t

Why was Mother refusing to receive treatment from the Medicine King? It was quite clear that he wanted Mother to recover. But she didn’t seem to be enthusiastic about it. And what sort of treatment did the Medicine King pertain to? “Amelia, I made it very clear that this treatment can be your last chance of survival,” the Medicine King explained firmly. It was evident that he was begging for Mother’s approval. “It may not completely heal you. But it can slow down whatever virus is inside of you.” “Good sir, you can see my state. An Immortal, weak, fragile, and unable to leave her bed. How can I go to another city with my condition?” she questioned, with a hint of humour and sarcasm in her tone. “Amelia, this matter isn’t to be taken lightly,” the Medicine King scolded her. He continued, “Your situation is already a matter of life and death. If you agree to this treatment, I can go and get the materials needed so we can begin.” “I’m already too ill to handle too much stress. As muc

As I waited for Nana Olsa, I indulged myself with a giant cake. It sat in the middle of a table near Nana Olsa’s station. It was too delicious to share, so I preferred to eat it on my own. I was too occupied with the cake when someone suddenly asked me from behind, “Robert, what are you doing?” I turned to see Nana, shocked. “Oh, hello, Nana,” I greeted as I moved back an inch. She moved closer to me. A horrified expression rose on her face. Her eyes widened as she asked, “Robert, what have you done to the cake?” “It was on the table and nobody was paying attention to it. So, I thought I could have a few bites,” I replied. “Would you like to have some?” I offered. “Nobody is supposed to touch that because it wasn’t supposed to be touched!” Nana answered as she looked at the entire cake. “What do you mean? Isn’t this supposed to be for dinner?” I asked, baffled. “This was for dinner but this was for the lords! Your father invited them over to celebrate their success in their tra
