Simple logic
The bartender stared at Steven and his friend in excitement. Jackson could taste the salt in his blood as it ran out of his mouth. He figures that his teeth might have cut his tongue when Steven struck him. Jackson reached out for some napkins, and Oliver assisted him with the box. He pulled three tissues out and spat his blood into them. Jackson then wiped his mouth with his hand. "I deserved this blow. Is everything all right with you? I was kidding with my last statement, and I am revoking my words. I also understand that my remarks were wrong. For that, I am sorry. But you knocked me hard, bro." He told his friend as he sat on the stool and drank his next glass. Steven felt so relieved after Jackson's clarification that he took three shots in a roll and took his seat. Steven didn't reply, though he did not look mad anymore, and Jackson

Old childhood heartbreak
Jennie stared at Rose with pity in her eyes. They had been sitting in silence for the past twenty minutes, and her mother-in-law had not changed her position. Rose kept her gaze on the light from the window. Suddenly the glow faded away, and Rose remembered how she felt like a dying light when she stood at the building with her baby boy and wondered what was behind its doors.  "What happened next, mom? Jennie asked. She couldn't stop herself from inquiring. Rose did not move a muscle as she continues with the story.  The building had the name "Divine lovers hotel" in pink letters written on a billboard attached to the front of the building. "Mom, come on! Let's go look for dad!" Jackson screamed at me. Before I could come to my senses and stop my son from entering, Jackson had pushed the door open and entered. I went after him in a h

He can't go through another heartbreak.
The bar got quiet by one o'clock in the afternoon. A lot of people who were in the pub from ten o'clock in the morning at the time Jackson and Steven arrived had left. These friends were two out of the seven people in the bar, including the bartender.   Jackson and Steven finish the entire bottle. However, Jackson drank more than his friend, and he crossed his sober line. Steven noticed that his pal was drunk and decided that it was time for them to head home.   "Jackson, wake up. I need to drive you to your residence!" Steven said as he shook his buddy out of the brief nap he had taken on the counter.   "Will you allow her to slip out of your grip?" Jackson mumbles as he slowly opens his eyes and gazes at his friend with a tired smile.   "What are you saying, man? Are you drunk talking?" Steven said. He sat back on his stool since he saw that Jackson was awake now.   "I'm not. I

Remember my advise
The chilly December breeze blew gently across the tree, allowing its leaves to swing from side to side. The wind mopped the streets as it passed by, carrying the falling leaves high above the ground and into the air. People continued passing by, causing the sidewalk to become boisterous with the sound of footsteps.  A married couple and their kids sat outside by the shop window as their children happily licked their ice cream and played freely with each other. Julie watches through the glass and stares at their cheerful faces. They reminded her of her childhood days when she did not understand how terrifying and depressing life was and how hurtful people could be. She can still recollect the first day she discovered that the world was not full of sunshine and rainbows.  The door to the Harper bakery shop flew open, and her four-year-old self ran toward her father with her mother by her side. Her dad could see that h

Fool me once, you get a payback.
"Beep!" The loud noise of the other car woke Jackson from his sleep. He looked on his right and saw Steven gazing at the sky. "What are you thinking about, buddy?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes to clear it. "Oh, you are awake?" Steven replied. Jackson sat up, removed his seatbelt, and viewed his surroundings. "Why are we parking on the roadway and not at my home?" Jackson asked when he saw the busy streets and people. "I was not thinking straight in the bar, but once I sat behind the wheel, and the alcohol left my system, I realized that we both look terrible. Your t-shirt looks like a rag, and your lip seems swollen from the cut you got this morning. Plus, every part of you smells like booze and blood." Steven replied as he rested his head against the car wheel and gazed at his friend. "And whose fault is it that I look like a fiery mess?" Jackson asked. He

Mother knows best
The yellow house remained noiseless as Jennie kept holding her breath in. "Jenn, are you okay? Your face looks red." Rose said with concern in her eyes.   Jennie opened her mouth and let out a faint sigh. She then took a deep breath. "I'm all right, mom," Jennie replied. She felt better now that she had stopped suppressing her breath.    "I am glad that you are okay. As I was saying, do you have anything you want to tell me about why you are having all these insecurities? You know your husband is not cheating on you. So is there any other reason you have for thinking in this manner?" Rose continued asking her previous questions.   Jennie knew she could not get away from these interrogative sentences, and Rose was good at detecting lies. So, all she could do was tell the truth. "For the ten months I traveled out of the country, I was not ha

Friendship or courtship?
Rose finally let go of her boys' ears and released them. Steven and Jackson put a little distance between their mother and themselves. They did not want her to come back for a second time. Their ears were in too much pain to handle another turn. Jennie saw how red their ears were and the anguish in their eyes. She could not control herself from going in for another round of laughter. Rose watched Jennie giggle until her heart was content. "Are you done? If you are, then let's go!" She ordered. Jennie's smile fades away. She knew what her mother-in-law meant, and it was not to her taste. "UH?" Steven asked his mom, wishing that Rose was not talking about what he knew she intended them to do. "What?" Jackson questioned his mother, hoping that she was speaking about something different from what he had in mind. "To where?" Jennie said, believing her feeble-minde

Dad, you are embarrassing me!
The bakery door opened, and it made a loud "bang" noise when it got shut. Louis heard the sound and left the kitchen to check it out. Julie followed her father. She was curious about whom it could be since the shop was closed for the day.  Mr. Harper met Rose and Steven waiting for him in the shop. He did not know them. However, they did not seem like costumers to him. "I am sorry for slamming your door. I did not mean to shut it hard." Steven nervously replied as he stared at Mr. Harper's athletic-built body. He thought Julie's father would be a tall slim guy since his daughter is slender and curvy. "Do you know him?" Louis asked his daughter. He could sense the love and hate in his daughter's voice, and he knew this individual who showed up abruptly had some effect on Julie's miserable mood. Louis wanted to know why he does. Julie folded her hands and gave Steven a sharp stare. "Dad, p

Well, this is an embarrassing and unexpected situation.
Jackson pushed open the bakeshop door and entered inside. He saw his mother's mad expression and knew that this situation would not be a pleasant one for him or the others. Steven walked in after Jackson and stood next to him. At that moment, his gaze locks on Julie, and she murmurs some words to him. He focused his mind on reading her lips to understand what she was saying. When Steven finally understood her, "I am sorry" was what she tried to tell him. 'I'm sorry? What does that even mean?' he wondered to himself. Jennie steps in and shuts the door. Her eye caught Mr. Harper's gaze as she took her place next to Steven, and his expression seemed gloomy when he saw her. Everyone was in the room, and now there were so many awkward vibes going around. Between Steven, Jackson, and Jennie, none of them wanted to be the first to speak out since they did not know why Mr. Harper and Rose summon them inside.
