Chapter 21
Anna's povWe were in Physics class and it was extra boring. I normally hated Physics but in the case, Mrs. Kyle's teaching was making me hate it even more. I looked around me to see that more than half the class was already asleep. Great, just great. I was seated in the middle row, by the window, as always. Vanessa sat beside me, on my left since the window was on my right. Brooke was in the front row, paying attention like her life depended on it. "I'm bored. I want to sleep", I whispered to Vanessa when Mrs. Kyle turned to face the board. "Don't", she whispered back with a tone of warning. I rolled my eyes. "But why? Half the class is already sleeping", I said. "Anna, I'm warning you. Don't do it. You'll thank me later", she said and resumed taking notes. Wait, what? She had been taking notes the whole time while I stared out the window?

Chapter 22
Anna's POV"Annabelle, cheer up. It's probably a prank," Brooke said, placing her right palm on my left one. I instinctively withdrew. Looks of hurt and confusion appeared in her eyes and I immediately felt bad. It wasn't that I did not want her comfort, but I didn't want her to discover the scar on my left wrist.  We were in the cafeteria, eating. Well, Vanessa and Brooke were eating while I was lost in thought. I could not get what happened to my locker out of my head. Brooke was sitting on my left while Vanessa sat opposite us, phone in hand and ear buds plugged in. I had only managed to get some fries because Brooke practically forced me. Vanessa was quiet since we left my locker. I was awfully hungry but I could not bring myself to eat anything. Funny how I was starving so much, I could eat a cow but I had food before me but I could not eat.  I kept racking my brain for who could have done such a th

Chapter 23
Kimberly's POVI stood there shocked looking like the complete idiot I was. So this was the Siromani girl I had been waiting for? It felt unbelievable. As if the shame of denying her identity was not enough, the whole school was siding with her as if they wanted to beat me up including the seniors.  That was a first. Seniors in Regis High were known to themselves and their cliques and did not entangle themselves in matters thar didn't involve them directly. This current grade also followed that unspoken rule. Actually, they followed it to the last letter.  Regis High School was one of the best schools in New York. Their students were seen and known as models wherever they went. We always came out in competitions whether academic or sports. Here, students were known to mind their business unless in matters that involved their grade mates or one or two friends in other grades. Different grades never mixed,

Chapter 24
Anna's POV"Why would you do something like that?!" We were all in my room at home and I was currently yelling my head off at Vanessa. I knew I shouldn't have but I needed a way to vent my frustration and unfortunately, she ended up being the scapegoat. I knew she meant well but at the same time, she could have told me that she wanted to confront her royal bitchness before doing so.  School had ended for the day. Vanessa and Brooke asked if they coild come over to the house to spend time with me for an hour or two. Actually, Brooke asked on the behalf of both of them. Vanessa hadn't said a word since the incident with Kimberly. I was about to agree when I remembered that I needed the consent of my parents first. I grudgingly called them to confirm and surprisingly, they agreed. That put a momentary smile on my face.  I informed Dex when he showed up to pick me and he gladly opened the door for all three of us. &

Chapter 25
Anna's POVWhen I got tired of thinking of the locker incident, I got off from my bed and walked to my reading table. I had my parents put it in for me since they had forgotten I was a student and would be needing one.  There were about four subject notebooks waiting for me there, each with its own assignment. The first was Physics, then French, Biology and AP Math. I worked for about an hour until my brain could take no more. There were still Biology and AP Math left but I just could not take anymore. I stood up and went into the bathroom. When I came out, I saw the tray Kathy used to serve me and the girls lunch. It made absolutely no sense to wait for her to come to take it, so I gathered the plates in an arranged manner so that they looked neat and neither would they fall. At least I could use that as a distraction from both my homework and the incident that was bothering me. "Hey Kathy," I said when I en

Third person's POV Vanessa got home sooner than she expected. She had planned to stop by the home of the Austin family but time was not on her side, it was almost six o'clock.  She arrived home to meet an empty house as usual. It was not empty literally, but it lacked the parental love and attention she believed was due to her. Most times, her parents were too busy with their work to bother about her. In fairness to them, they loved their daughter a lot but they just did not know how to show it.  She went upstairs to her room on the first floor. She had a lot of homework to do before the next day but she needed to make a certain call first.  Vanessa's room was medium sized. It was smaller than what most people expected the daughter of a rich couple to have but to hell with people's opinions, she like the size of her rook the way it was. Almost everything was in plain view once she opened the d

Chapter 27
Anna's POVDear diary,Hello there. I'm sorry for not keeping in touch. I hope you can forgive me. Since we moved to America, I have been rather busy. You know, I have never been one who enjoyed traveling let alone moving to a place I've visited only twice. Apart from that, I've been having troubles of my own, lots of troubles. Dear diary, who exactly did I offend? Is it my ancestors or what? Are they angry that we refused to be Muslim? Is this their way of punishing us? To be specific, is this their way of punishing me? It seems that trouble manages to find me regardless of where I am on this planet. I don't know if I should just disappear and never come back or if I should move to Mars. First, it started with Auntie Kayla. Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that she would take her hatred so far. Well, I did see it coming, I saw it in my dreams but I refused to believe it. I desperately wanted to believe that I w

Chapter 28
Anna's POVI visibly tensed when the door opened and they just stayed there without coming in. It may have looked odd seeing me sitting on the floor in a strange position. Well, it may have looked odd to my dad because he literally had never seen seen me work out but to my mom, it must have looked perfectly normal. She and I used to work out together in the past.  Like normal parents would, I expected them to actually come into the room. That is, I expected them to do that until I remembered that I was not dealing with normal people. That was how I reluctantly got up from the floor.  I just turned to face them. It made no sense to go over to the door to usher them in, after all, they had always made themselves comfortable in the past. Why did that day seem to be different? "Good afternoon mom and dad," I greeted with an even tone.  My dad cleared his throat - multiple times. I s

Chapter 29
Anna's POV I contemplated whether to answer Anas' call or not. What he said earlier hurt me to my marrow. I picked up anyway. Might as well hear what he had to say. "Ameera, I'm sorry," was the first thing he said. "Why would you talk like that, Anas? Yes, I haven't called you in a while but is that a reason to say all those things?" He sighed. "The thing is, you've been talking to Niya and Ahmed about something that's going on in your school. They talked about it today but they were surprised that you hadn't told me about it and question me on whether we had an argument. I felt odd."I could see where his explanation was headed. He must have felt left out that I had been talking all my problems over with only Haniya and Ahmed. He undoubtedly felt like I had decided not to trust him any longer. "Anas," I said softly, "you are like the brother I don't have. Why wou

Chapter 30
Kimberly's POVI was too scared to step a foot in the cafeteria. After my sufferings of the day before, I didn't think entering that place was in my best interests. Yes, I hadn't gone to the cafeteria the day before, but I was prepared to starve instead of going there.  For some reason, everybody had ignored me since I came to school that day. Given the way the brains of my grade mates worked, I knew they were sure to be waiting for me in the cafeteria. No way was I going to fall for their trap.  I lingered at the door of the cafeteria for some minutes before turning around. I had several options on where to spend the hour of lunch. I could go to the bottom of a staircase and wait for the hour to pass. I shook my head at that option. It made no sense. Besides, the janitor could find me there and make a report to someone. It was against the rules to be found loitering around the stairs during classes or during lunch time.&nbs
