I visited mom two days later and she was quite shocked to see me there again so soon. When I was sure she was okay and I updated her about happenings at home, I went to the hospital cafeteria to get a snack and hopefully catch a glimpse of Katherine. I was halfway into a meat pie before I saw her. She walked alone thankfully, so it gave me that extra boost of confidence to wave to her.

I didn't tell her anything about that night because I didn’t want her opinion of me to change but her dad knew some of the stories behind that night. I felt like I owed it to Dr Meyers to tell him what happened after how much he had helped me. We walked into the hotel lobby where Laura and Idris waited. I couldn’t help but glance around the reflective walls-wow I looked amazing if I do say so myself- and the colourful paintings that seemed to give off a life of their own. Laura saw us first, as she walked toward us her heels clicked sharply on the floor. Idris soon followed closely behind. “Well, look at you!” I grinned as she spun around slowly for us to be awed by her silk evening gown. It draped nicely on her body and flowed down like a midnight blue waterfall.

Cindy muttered something under her breath and rolled her eyes. “It was great seeing you Michael, you’re looking well. Nice to meet you, Katherine.” She walked away before either of us replied. “Wow, he seems like a douche,” Katherine whispered when Cindy left. 

I pulled my hoodie over my head to prevent getting soaked from the rain. I could not remember the last time I felt so nervous. Okay so maybe I did but it had been a while anyway. I arrived at the address Katherine texted me and looked around. The gallery was across the street so I waited for a break in traffic to cross the road. Once I was sure it was free, I stepped unto the road and halfway across was when the car appeared seemingly from nowhere. I didn’t have time to react or think. It all happened too fast. The car horn was deafening. It screeched to a halt
