(Emma’s P.O.V.)“What was that?!” I ask baffled the moment Mr. Beckett and Mr. Gleason close the office door behind them.What just happened? Did I just seriously pretend to be Leopold Beckett's fiancée? I can’t believe I just did that! I have no idea why he just asked me to say that lie, I only know I wasn’t able to say no to those puppy eyes of his... and that kiss... I was thrown off by that spectacular kiss. I’ve had a very confusing morning so far, waking up in Leopold’s apartment and now pretending to be his fiancée... I have no clue about what’s happening today.“I’m sorry... I panicked.” Leopold replies clenching his jaw.“Why in the world would you say you are engaged to me?” I ask perplexed.“Someone saw us last night leaving the party together and they assumed... you know... the problem is my father forbade me from sleeping around the office, so when he confronted me, all I could come up with was pretending that we were a real couple,” he explains with an apology expression

Mr. Beckett senior and his wife live in a mansion outside the city. My jaw drops as we drive thru the enormous perfectly illuminated garden, it looks like a place from a fairytale. On both sides of the mansion, there are two enormous stone fountains that look like they belong in a public park, not a private home. “They are impressive aren’t they?” Leopold asks referring to the fountains as he parks his red convertible in front of the mansion. “My mother had them sent from Italy. Apparently, local fountains are not good enough for her taste,” he says jokingly. 

The dinner seemed to last an eternity. I think that was as true for me as it was for Leopold; I was putting up with his mother looking daggers at me the entire time, while he was dealing with David’s passive-aggressive comments. On top of that, we are clearly not a very good fake couple, we kept saying the wrong thing about each other over and over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Becketts conclude Leopold and I are in no way together, let alone engaged to each other. Luckily, this evening is finally over.“What we did tonight was foolish,” Leopold says as he drives us back to his apartment. “If we are going to pretend to be a couple, we have to get to know each other.”“Yes, you are right,” I mumble as I look out the window, feeling exhausted.“By the way, I didn’t say anything before, but I am really sorry to hear about your parents,” he says with pity.“Thank you,” I mutter upset. I hate to bring out the subject, it’s still too painful.“Do you want to talk about it?” He asks.“No,”

I reluctantly go with Mary Alice to ‘The Bride Couture’, the place is the definition of elegance. I’m intimidated the second I step in. I feel so out of place in here and I fear even the shop assistants know I don’t belong in here just by looking at me. Mary Alice doesn’t seem to notice it, she just looks at the dresses and she points at the ones she thinks I should try on.  “Oh, look at this one, Emma!” She says mesmerized by a mermaid silhouet

When I arrive at our apartment, Eddie is not here, only his mess. I clean up a little bit, put his clothes in the washing machine and I do the dishes. I sigh displeased, my baby brother is never going to change. After a while, I go downstairs and walk a few blocks to my favorite flower shop “I Fiori di Vittorio”, I have always loved this place. For some reason most of its employees are men and they all wear suits, I have no idea why they dress like that, but I like it, it gives the place a sense of elegance. I buy a dozen white roses for the apartment. I go back and put the roses in a vase. They make the place look nicer, my mom used to have flowers around our house all the time, she said they gave the place an air of coziness and I think she was right. I smile pleased. I try to call my brother several times, but he is not answering his phone, he’s probably out with friends. I wait a little longer for Eddie to return and then I leave a note for him on the kitchen counter. I just hope h
