Chapter 16: Business transaction

The dinner seemed to last an eternity. I think that was as true for me as it was for Leopold; I was putting up with his mother looking daggers at me the entire time, while he was dealing with David’s passive-aggressive comments. On top of that, we are clearly not a very good fake couple, we kept saying the wrong thing about each other over and over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Becketts conclude Leopold and I are in no way together, let alone engaged to each other. Luckily, this evening is finally over. 

“What we did tonight was stupid,” Leopold says as he drives us back to his apartment. “If we are going to pretend to be a couple, we have to get to know each other.”
