He once again stepped foot on the Upper Ground. It was surprisingly relaxing. After spending so much time in that burning hell hole he called lair, the fresh scent of polluted air was a great welcome. Just like before, he strode along with the creatures called humans. No one noticed his presence as he wanted it. As he takes in his surroundings, he thought that humans can improve a lot. It was just a decade or two when human-invented what they call DVD. A round object that when inserted into a specific machine will produce a moving picture. But now, humans don’t need that. Everything has become convenient. They were now watching the moving picture in a box fit in their hands. Humans are so busy. Is what he thought. He passed by a mirrored wall and saw his reflection. He stopped to inspect himself. The Upper Ground and the humans changed so much. But he remained the same. It was still the same grey orbs that project no emotions, the same five o’clock shadow on his face, and the same p

Chapter 1

“Stacey!” everyone gasped as they saw the swollen pink face of the Campus Bell. She had just come out of the restroom with some friends when she felt a sudden itch on her face. The itch crawled down to her neck to her arm. She looked as if she had an allergic reaction. Which is hardly the case. She doesn’t have any allergies. She knows because her parents were strict when it comes to health issues. So, she didn’t have the slightest idea what was happening. And the reaction of her schoolmates doesn’t help the situation. “Stacey! What happened to you?” Lizzie and Amilia were just about to enter their class when the commotion caught their attention. “I don’t know! Oh my gosh! Help me” her best friend quickly guides her to the Infirmary. The crowd was noisy, astounded by the scene they witness. Everybody share their own opinions about the matter and everyone was silenced when Cole Edward appeared. He was part of the school basketball team. With his height and looks he instantly becam

Chapter 2

“What are you doing? Are you covering for that little human?” the attacker’s voice boomed which made Amilia flinch. Yes, there are times when she gets involved with unseen entities and she tried to shrug it off. But this is the first time she got so involved with them, and a powerful one too. She tried to shrink herself behind the one who blocked the attack.“Move away. I don’t care about your status” the attacker threatened. But he didn’t even budge.“Stop this. She’s not worth it” Amilia’s protector said with finality. His voice was very masculine and deep. A unique kind of voice. What he said angered her attacker. The library seemed to transform into a different place. There was something sinister in the air.“You!” but before the attacker could do anything, he disappeared right in front of Amilia with just a wisp of black smoke as a remnant.Everything went still after that. Amilia didn’t dare to move an inch as she held her breath. Even the air stilled with the tension. After a mi

Chapter 3

“What… What are you?” she found her voice but it was shaky and weak. The creature staggered forward ignoring the way Amilia shook in fear. She was still standing there silently urging her feet to move. Only an inch was left and the creature would kiss Amilia’s face when some unseen force stopped the creature.“Bad dog, Gree. Did I scare you?” a familiar voice can be heard from somewhere.Amilia racked her head to know to who that voice belonged. It was the man from earlier. The owner of the terrifying creature. It was him, and he was inside her home. She didn’t know what to do. Her feet were betraying her. “You looked like you just saw a ghost? Loosen up, child” he strode to the small chair near the mirror and sat down.“Why are so frightened? It’s not like this is the first time that we saw each other” he again commented. Amilia can’t speak. She was weak against him. “What was your name again? I already heard it earlier. Was it Annie… no?” he put his finger on his chin like he was t

Chapter 4

“Why do you need to help them? They had turned their back on you. I am the only one left on your side! You have created me just like you. Why? Why do they matter most than me?”✒✒✒“Amilia! Come on!” Lizzie shouted from the entrance of a cosmetic shop.Amilia was reluctant to follow. Shopping was not her thing. She once tried to escape Lizzie’s shopping galore but failed miserably. She wanted to just put up with Lizzie’s shopping than waking up one morning with a ton of paper bags full of clothes in her room.“Oh my! Oh my!” Lizzie run to a shelf full of dresses and tried picking something.Amilia spotted the lone chair of hope at the center of the boutique. Without waiting for anything she went to sit there. Knowing that Lizzie would take her time.“Amilia! Amilia! Fit this!” Lizzie came towards her with a bunch of dresses.“This? No, I can’t.” Amilia refused gently pushing the dress away.“Nope!” Lizzie firmly said. She hoisted Amilia up and pushed her towards the nearest fitting roo

Chapter 5

Amilia was getting tired. Getting out of consciousness and waking up in her room alone. She was growing tired of it. She needs to get used to things that were far from normal. She thought as soon as she opened her eyes. She got out of bed and stare at the mirror. She was still in yesterday’s clothes and her hair was in disarray. Her stomach growled. Not minding her appearance, she walked out into the kitchen.“Oh my god!” Amilia jumped out when she saw a man relaxedly sitting on her couch. He raised his brow in question.“Why are you sitting there?” Amilia throws him an accusing finger.“Why? Do you want me to stand here?” He said.“Well, no… I mean. I’m hungry.” She stuttered a little before proceeding to the kitchen.“Want some cereals?” Amilia offered.“I don’t eat.” He answered.Amilia shrugged. It was just her attempt on trying to start a conversation. She poured a lot into her bowl and added two glasses of milk. Amilia was famished. The last meal she had was before the accident a

Chapter 6

“Why didn’t you do something to save the child?” Amilia silently asks him. They were at the hospital. The mother was in the operation room. The baby? She was proclaimed dead on arrival. Amilia was silent, hanging her head down. Something was pressing in her chest and an unsettling feeling inside her stomach. She wanted to cry and shout to release what she was feeling inside.“Why do you care?”Yeah, he is right. Why does she? The mother and daughter were just nobody. It was the first time in her life that she saw them on the bus. They were not familiar faces and yet, she can’t stop herself from feeling hurt and lost.“You just got curious about them. You don’t need to care. It was not your loss.” With that, Amilia threw him a glare. What does he know? He had the strength to help them but he just declares the baby’s death. He just let it happen and didn’t help. He is not a human so he won’t understand what human feels. Or how is it hard to be eaten by your conscience?“What? Am I wrong?

Chapter 7

“What? Is it my fault now?” Mother shouted, her eyes glaring at my father who was matching her stares.“Is it not true? If you hadn’t gone to that place everything wouldn’t be like this! Your daughter would have had a normal life!” Father retorted back.I was watching them from the door frame of the kitchen. Crying silently. Ever since Mother and I got back from what looked like a church they had been arguing. Sometimes Mother would throw things at Father out of frustration. Father would dodge it followed by a remark that would piss my mother more. They didn’t know that I was watching. I was careful not to make a sound or let them see me. I’m scared but I can’t voice it out. My parents were arguing because of me and I was forced to watch it every single time. Because they told me so. They were scared of me.✒✒✒Puffing, Amilia entered her apartment. She looked for her phone and found it lying on the living room table. It is what that guy picked up earlier. Dead batt, Amilia cursed. How

Chapter 8

Amilia rushed inside the restaurant. Her nose was blaring and out of breath. She stopped at the door to pause and collect herself and gathered enough breath. She then strides until she reached Lizzie’s back. Zephyr looked at her. His eyes were still that blank stare that you will be sucked in if you are not careful. Lizzie too looked over to see her friend, sweating and gasping for breath.“Amilia, what happened to you?” Lizzie stood up to aid her friend.“Stay away from him, Liz” Amilia pulled her friend behind her and stand as a shield. After spending an amount of time with him, Amilia developed a fear and somewhat braveness of things she thought she can handle. Whatever those are. So far, the thing she can handle was to throw daggers at him with her eyes. But she can’t let Zephyr know.“So, it’s you,” Zephyr said sounding like she was looking for her for a long time.“What do you want?” Amilia answered her with a low and warning tone. There was always something weird about him. From

Chapter 9

They reached their destination; the two women were already up. Amilia looked outside scanning the whole place. They stopped at the front of a rundown house. The walls are stripped of color and some had dark spots on them.Amilia tried to picture the place during the day. Zephyr got down and pay for their fare. Amilia cautiously followed but not before throwing Lizzie a reassuring nod. If something is reassuring about this, it’s the man who came with them and that she can only see him.“Let’s go inside. I’m sorry the place is a bit… messy.” Zephyr said.It was an understatement as Amilia looked over the place again. Everything looks rusty and old. The atmosphere screams of danger. They were on the farthest part of what can be called a subdivision. The house was abandoned as if there is an imaginary line between the last house and the place that nobody would dare to enter.“It looks haunted, Amilia,” Lizzie whispered while looking worriedly at Zephyr’s back. It was as if she was afraid t
