40. The Queen's Past (P2)
Samantha’s journey as a vampire began as soon as her eyes opened. She felt as if her throat was burning up. She whimpered, confused and suffering. “Darling, you are finally awake,” she faintly turned towards the owner of the voice. She tried to remember where she heard the voice but couldn’t remember. Her eyes zoned in on the man who was smiling gently.    “Wa-water…” she croaked out. The man sat beside her and gently caressed her forehead. She couldn’t even remember why she was here or how she was here. The man shook his head. “No, you don’t need water, sweetheart.” He stood up from the bed which Samantha realised was soft and comforting and went to the other side of the room. He poured something in a tumbler and soon he was tilting the rim to her lips.    Whatever it was, the liquid was delicious. Samantha gulped it down,

41. A Surreal Moment
Myra   My days weren’t getting any easier. Without Damian, Akira had become weak, and although Violet said that she would be back after mourning the loss, I was not sure. So far, my wolf’s responses have been feeble, in small hums and grunts. But she refuses to take over. Even when training I try to involve her, but she just retreats somewhere at the back of my mind.    “Take it easy for now,” Brandon had said when during a sparring match between Jamie and I, he had accidentally attacked a little too aggressively and since I was not prepared, I had received a bruised jaw. Jamie had profusely apologized and when Brandon advised me, I could see his eyes filled with pity. I hated this. But I didn’t want them to be at the receiving end of my anger, so I barely nodded and went back to my room.

42. Determination
Damian Mother stared grimly at me. “Why did you not tell us that you found your mate and an...omega at that.” The way she uttered the word made it sound like it was something derogatory which made me clench my fists. But knowing my mother, I remained quiet. She wasn’t the kindest mother or a motherly figure to begin with. Therefore, arguing with her was meaningless.  Melissa continued toying with a Rubik's cube but chose to not comment or interrupt for once. I closed the book I had been reading with more force than necessary. “Did you come to my study to tell me that? If so then let me ask you, why did you hide the fact that I was hybrid all those years ago? Why did you let the Queen turn me into a pureblood?”  My mother was taken aback and even Melissa sat

43. A Prince and a Royal
Myra   I bounced my legs impatiently as I waited for Andrew in his study. The man finally decided to show up after a week of being MIA and I found out about his silent arrival in the evening when Violet informed me about him asking me to meet him. But when I entered his study, it was empty.    Fidgeting with the hem of my sweatshirt, I contemplated whether I should stand up and go hunting for one particular old wizard or just stay here and anticipate his arrival. I blew out a shuddering breath and leaned back on the couch. My gaze wandered from one book-filled shelf to another. Had I been a bookworm, I might have whiled away my time by reading a book.    “Waited for long, I presume?” I yelped when his voice broke the silence in the room. He looked haggard. His eyes had sunken, and his c

44. Trapped by an Oath
Damian   As I walked down the corridor, I tried not to flinch at the guards bowing at every corner. I have not been here since forever. How ironic was the situation that the very place I tried to avoid is the very place where I will be staying for some time?    My parents were elated to hear my decision, but Melissa had looked at me dubiously. When I stood in front of the courtroom door, the guards asked for the scroll as per usual. I handed it to them. Who uses goddamn scrolls in this century?    They pushed open the door once they had finished going through it, bowing as I entered. I swept a glance across the room. All important aka power-mongering vampires and wizards were present in the room. I squared my shoulder and started walking towards the Queen, who had stood up and was desce

45. A Traitor in Disguise
Myra   The ceramic bowl slipped through my fingers and fell to the ground, shattering into pieces. “Woah there, are you okay?” Jamie hurriedly came to my aid, getting a dustpan from somewhere and sweeping away the pieces before depositing them into the bin. I, however, stayed rooted to my spot, beside the breakfast bar, staring blankly at my trembling fingers.    What happened? What just happened? I blinked back to reality when I heard my name being called. I turned to look at Jamie, who was staring back at me, his worried-filled eyes assessing my expression.    “Myra? Are you feeling well?” I nodded dumbly at the question. My mind felt like mush, lethargically processing the statement. “When..when did you come?” I heard myself asking. Jamie’s brow creased. But instead of answering, he

46. Triggered
Myra I woke up, dazed, but the desire to succumb to oblivion and stay that way was immense. “No don’t get up,” I heard vi’s voice, but it felt as if she was speaking from afar. Was I trying to get up? I didn’t know because with panic I realised that I felt numb all over.  “It’s just a little anaesthetic medicine, to calm your nerves at least unless Andrew arrives,” Vi said, putting a gentle hand on my shoulder. I could faintly feel the warmth radiating from her skin and seeping into mine. She gently pushed me back on the bed as I blearily stared at her form. I squinted but my eyes hurt.  “What happened to me?” I managed to ask, but my voice slurred and words overlapped each other. “Nothing, just...you might be slightly si

47. The Black Book
Andrew I returned home to another problem. Celie had let me stay for a few more days before I had been called for business and it seemed that in this short amount of time, something grave happened. I entered my study, initially thankful that I hadn’t bumped into anyone, especially Alexandra. But that gratitude to the unknown lasted mere seconds because as soon as I stepped into my safe haven, I was greeted by Violet and Alexandra. While the younger one looked pale and apprehensive, the older of the two looked livid.  “Well, I...didn’t expect such a warm welcome,” I said dryly as I walked further in. “We didn’t mean to disturb you,” Violet began, but was cut off by Alexandra’s sharp tone. “Believe me, I don’t care where you go, but there’s an urgent situation and it would be better if the man of the house could inform us his whereabout to us from the next time.”

48. Duality
Andrew   My suggestion was met with silence and a raging gaze. “I don’t presume this is the time for humour.” Alexandra couldn’t believe this outrageous option could in fact save that girl’s life. When I didn’t answer, her anger turned into horror.    “You are serious.” Now that wasn't a question. I nodded and before she could speak, I held her elbow and hurriedly entered my study and closed the door. As I had predicted, my acknowledgement brought back her fury with full force. She wrenched away from me and stepped back, creating a substantial distance between us.  “Why? We can save her through my healing power. I brought back her consciousness earlier, didn’t I? And then we will find a way or the source of this forced withdrawal.”   I sighed.

49. Fragile Like A Glass
Celie   “Ah, Andrew, it’s nice to see you again,” he said while I stood frozen at the spot. Andrew’s eyes were trained on me, waiting like a predator waits for its prey to make a mistake. “The feeling isn’t mutual,” he muttered without looking at the other man. “I said how and why is this man here?” he repeated, and this time the edge in his voice made me wince slightly. I swallowed nervously. My gaze darted towards my accomplice, who was busy smirking at Andrew.    “He-” I croaked and my accomplice’s gaze flickered to mine, challenging me to divulge the truth. “Yes, Celie, tell me how and why I am here,” he retorted, the taunt obvious in his tone. I was panicking. The last thing I wanted now was to break my act and be forever hated by the person I loved so much. I wouldn’t be able to help Damian either. I opened my mouth to say but my accomplice bea
