Chapter 31
Call Me Back   April 24, 2009 Boo “Hi, Corine. What’s up? I said walking toward the apple orchard to get away from the noise of the crowd gathered at the farmhouse. I rubbed my arms to get rid of the chills and goosebumps, not yet believing I really sang in front of Lu’s family and friends. Grandpa Joe even gave me a thumbs up which made me grin like a school boy getting his first gold star.  “Boo? When are you coming home?” Corine’s voice sounded tired. “Damn it!” I said out loud as Jasper played a really great song. I could hear the women’s reaction from the entrance to the apple orchard, but couldn’t see them clearly.  “What did you

RUN! April 23 (Close to midnight) Lucille I rubbed my arms as the cold wind blew. Nathan had just left and I could barely see his silhouette anymore. A few more steps and he was going to turn left towards the town and I felt sad knowing I’d probably only see him on TV from now on. I got up from the log and let out a sigh. It's finally over. The credits have rolled and our love story will be like one of the romantic movies I've watched. With a sad ending. Wait. Not sad. It's still happy because somehow both of us will still end up happily with different people. Right. Choose to be happy Lu. I brushed off my shorts and started walking towards t

Frank   April 24, 2009 Boo   I drove back to the house a little behind Lu's parents. By the time we reached where I saw the man lying face down on the side of the road, two police cars and an ambulance were already there.  Elaine and Mike stopped their car and asked what happened. As I got out of my car, the hairs on my skin all stood up as I heard Elaine's shrill cry pierced through the cold air. Mike was holding her up as she fell to the ground. I ran toward them and saw Nathan lying there and bloody. My god, it was Nathan. I ran to the bushes nearby and puked. It was Nathan. What have I done

PSYCHOS April 25, 2009Jasper I opened my eyes, but closed it right back the moment a deadly headache erupted. The excruciating pain in my neck made me wince. I wanted to touch all the throbbing parts of my head and neck when the searing pain that started on my wrists, as I moved my hand, travelled throughout my arms, making me shout in agony. Where am I? Why does everything hurt?  “Jasper.” Lucille’s weak voice brought everything back in a flash. The man, the gun, the fight, and waking up in a dark trunk that smelled of spoilt meat and blood. I remember kicking it and p

HELPLESS    April 25, 2009 Lucille   It sounded like a woman going out of her mind. My eyes flew open and I immediately noticed something was wrong. My heart pounded too hard and too fast. All my senses were heightened. The stench of dried blood and something rotten  invaded my nostrils. I remember waking up a few hours ago to the image of Frank with blood oozing out of his fingers while holding his genitals and I gagged. The smell must be coming from Frank’s blood on the floor. I looked at the foot of the bed and saw Corine grinding on top of a man in a  sitting position, moaning with her eyes closed. Oh my god. How could they be so vile and ev

FRATELLI   April 25, 2009 Boo I closed my eyes to ignore their laughter, high on cocaine, and tried to concentrate on what to do or say to them; the two psychos who found each other and were now living their darkest fantasies through us. The drug they injected us with helped spiked up my adrenaline so much even my hunger pains disappeared and I focused on finding a way to break free.  My heart broke for Corine while she told us her darkest secrets, but at the same time, I also wanted to rip all her skin off using a carving knife while she screamed in agony, begging for her life. Oh, Daisy. How could I have been so blind. It all makes sense now. Corine is going to pay in prison for what she

Follow Me   April 25, 2009  Jasper   I opened the blinds a bit and saw it was dark outside already. Boo cursed out loud when he tried the telephone on his bedside table and found out it was disconnected. Lorenzo and Carlo told us there were only about a dozen of them assigned guarding the mansion. Two were at the end of the hallway and the rest scattered patrolling.  “More are coming tonight so we have to get out now.” Carlo said, pacing the room.  “Okay. We go first since they don’t know we betrayed them then we’ll signal you to come out. Si?” Lorenzo looked at the three of us, his hands were shaking.  “Thank you

Life and Death   April 25, 2009 (Close to midnight) Lucille   I set foot in the dark foreboding tunnel and immediately grabbed Jasper’s arm. The coldness and dank stale air made it hard to breathe. Boo pointed the flashlight ahead and I swallowed hard seeing the long path with the light only reaching a few meters. The rest was pitch dark and made me think of the movie I am Legend. Like at any moment we would run into zombies lurking in the dark and waiting to bite our necks off. My heart pounded in my ears and I breathed deeply and fast, but no air seemed to reach my lungs. The tight and  narrow space, only good for two people widthwise, made me dizzy. I had no choice but to hold on tighter to Jasper and tell him I was scared. He put his arms around me and I almost laughed out loud

Pretty woman   April 26, 2009 Boo   Last night, I left Lucille unconscious with Steph and ran with Dr. Steward to the viewing area because a nurse had paged him that Jasper was in code blue. A doctor was pushing on his chest and using that thing they used in the movies where they shock your heart. I forgot what it was called, but they used it again and again alternating with the other doctor who did the cpr.  "Jas. Please fight! Come on, man. You just came back into my life. Don't leave again, damn it. Don't leave me!" The pain in my knuckles, as I hit the wall, didn't hurt as much as the crushing  pain in my chest  while I thought of Jasper's life slipping away. Back at the farm

Bittersweet   April 26, 2009  Lucille  I felt the warmth of his body on mine. And as he said sweet words that melted my heart, a bittersweet feeling overwhelmed me. I thought of how much I wanted to turn around and kiss him, but then a part of me wanted to go back to Jasper's side and wait for him to wake up.  Boo let go of his tight hug and I turned around to face him, mustering up the courage to tell him how I truly felt. But the ring on his phone shocked my courage away. He excused himself and walked a few steps, turning his back on me.  I looked at his tall hot figure in a black suit and sighed. If I choose Boo, would our work life
