20. Run Max
Max sat up on the ledge of a building. Just a couple stories up and watched the spot in the back courtyard. He really had a bad feeling about this. He watched the man that showed up just a couple minutes ago. He stood just waiting checking his phone. It was pitch black and Max had already picked seven different ways to get out of here if shit went south fast. From where he was a giant tree hid him rather well, and would also allow him a quick way down. He was glad for what he was. It let him have the patience and the wherewithal to sit here and not feel rather cramped just waiting. After what seemed like forever another person showed and this one wasn’t human like the man who showed first. He pulled out a jewelry case, clearly meant to hold a necklace but you couldn’t see through or into it.Nothing was said between the two, just the necklace

Hel
Max hoisted himself up the embankment and out of the river he’d gone into. At least he didn’t smell like sewer anymore. He hurt, and he just couldn’t run another foot. He was lucky he’d managed to swim. He’d gone the entire day and it was evening again. He’d stopped to eat and devoured a shit ton of food that he stole. He wasn’t proud of it, but he did it because he needed the calories. His better than a half day run took a ton of energy and he’d started to feel weight loss happen to keep him sustained at the rate he was pushing himself. Now he was on the verge of collapse. He’d stolen a phone when he stole food. Got Tamara a text saying he did it, and then dropped the phone in the river after smashing the damn thing to pieces. As far as he could tell he wasn’t being followed and the sun was now getting lower in the sky. He nearly went down when h

22. Max Meet Hel
“Who the frick are you!” He demanded and his gaze was calculating. She saw that he’d rather run first, but the man could fight. She straightened, that was a first. She’d never, never, had that kind of reaction before. Normally they hadn’t minded and let her do what she was doing. What did they care? As long as they got to bed a beautiful woman, and while that might be vain of her, she knew she was damn good looking. All of them said so. She thought she was decent looking so what was his problem?“That’s a stupid question. Hel.” She answered and her voice was soft, caressing almost but cold too. No real emotion to it.“Hel.” He repeated and then pinched the bridge of his nose. “Are you fucking serious?”

23. Heat of the Moment
Max woke suddenly, some kind of alarm hitting him and he slashed out with his one arm. It was caught in an incredibly strong yet delicate grip which was odd in itself. He blinked and pulled his arm back from Hel who was kneeling on the bed next to him watching him.“Careful, if you stab me we may have problems.” She commented and he was quick to get up away from her, what was she doing? Watching him sleep? She needed to get a life in his opinion. He’d felt her there watching him as he came in and out of sleep a few times, but she wasn’t what woke him.“We need to go.” He commented because clearly she was stuck with him and vice versa. But whatever she could sit here, unless she was going to tell his enemies about him or something. Which he looked at her. He went to the dresser and grabbed a pair of pants when he found them, t

24. First Sensation
Max saw the men go a different way clearly they hadn’t seen them come into this alley. He didn’t trust that they didn’t have a trap set. No doubt they hoped to get her with that fire and kill him at the same time. He wasn’t valuable, he was in the way at the moment. They needed to go now that the coast seemed to be clear for the moment, but she was holding onto him. He had no idea what the hell she was doing, and why she had to have such erratic behavior. It wasn’t helpful.“Hel, let go.” He said impatiently. “What are you doing?” He demanded in a very quiet tone not wanting anyone with sensitive hearing to hear him. “You feel amazing, so warm. I feel like I want to crawl into your skin.” She sounded like she was purring, and he had to say that was the creepiest thing anyone had ever said t

25. Warmth and Desire
Over the next serval days, Max had no idea what to do in regards to Hel. She kept encroaching on his space a lot. Especially when he stopped to rest or sleep. She kept holding onto him when he did. Half refused to let him up when he demanded she let go of him. He didn’t know why he wasn’t waking up to her coming against him in his sleep. He normally had a very good alarm system.  Then again she wasn’t trying to hurt him or anything. He thought about this as they had gotten on a ferry to cross to France.  He stared out over the water thinking. She was a dangerous being. Here she was crawling into his bed and holding on to him. It was kind of a mind fuck if he did say so himself. Who in their right mind thought a goddess of death just laid next you and didn’t harm you? He barely knew her, but that didn’t seem to stop her. However spending serval days attached at the hip you started to see into a p

26. Conflicting Needs
Max spotted an open sitting room and opened the door going in. Private was good and he was glad that one of these was free. It was just a small area with a small table by the window and bench seats along the walls of the room. He figured here was as good as anywhere. He stepped in and turned around to speak to Hel. He gave a rather harsh sound when she pushed him mostly with her fingertips into the room and he nearly went down. Though he caught himself and the door practically slammed behind her. She snapped her fingers and the shades that could be drawn came down and he narrowed his gaze. She looked intense.“What are you doing?” He sounded unsure, and he was. She looked dark and unbalanced right then. He didn’t see any positive emotions in her gaze. Or at least genteler emotions. &ldq

27. Small Frustrations
Hel was getting angry now, and she was feeling it even when not next to him. She was angry at how difficult he was, and she was angry that she couldn’t figure this how to feel thing out. What exactly did she have to do to get what she wanted from him? Second she was tired of Surt hunting for them, sending demonic creatures to track them down. Clearly they could sense her rather easy, and it was getting in the way of her concentrating on the task of getting Max. She was considering doing something drastic to remind those creatures just who they really answered too, but she didn’t want Surt to show suddenly. Then she’d have her hands full. She was still bound by rules at the moment.“I will be back in a few minutes.” She told him because she was hungry, and didn’t have to take from him yet. But she really wanted to. In the next few days she was going to have to. Though she

27. Understanding Another
Hel followed him looking at the town and it started to grow into more of a city. She had to say that these mortals were very good at inventing things to help them when they weren’t like Max or others with gifts. But they were losing touch. They were losing their connection to it all and the part of her that was destructive watched closely. If it wasn’t good for the balance, it was fair game to destroy. Maybe that was her greatest role, destroy what is to make room for what could be. “This way.” He said turning down a path that was between a couple buildings. It had an archway that had plants growing everywhere. Just a few feet in it felt like you left the city and walked into a forest. The building that was tucked away here had vines growing up it. The sound of nature was real here. Looking left and right she couldn’t see the other buildings. Just a few large ponds and it seemed to extend quite a ways. Sh

29. Being A Friend
“At least we’ve had time to rest.” Max said. Which he needed the sleep more than she did but they hadn’t been bothered yet. The potion and charm he and his grandfather made were working great. It felt nice to not have to worry at the moment in his opinion. Several days had passed and he was trying to decide the best course of action. Hel was being rather quiet the past couple days. He was trying to figure out why to be honest. She wasn’t pestering him, and he felt like something was off.“You have needed it.” She commented glancing around the street. A dark look back on her face.“Is there something wrong? I don’t feel anything off at the moment toward us. You look like there might be.” She looked up at him as they walked around the city, she shrugged and pointed.
