Chapter 11
A few minutes after I wake up from a ‘not too nice sleep, but at least it was okay’, I hear a knock resound from the door. Even before the knock came through, the scent of Garrett had already run a course through to the room, so I knew it was him standing outside the door. I wonder what he was here for this morning.   “Adaliah, are you up?” his baritone voice comes into the room from outside. And I had to stay put for a moment to take in the tone of his voice. I wished there was a way I could do something to keep that tone in my head. Dammit! Now I was fantasizing about something as odd as that.   I did not intend to keep him waiting for too long, so I sigh silently before I say, “Come in,”   I was already seated by the edge of the bed when he came into the room. I still had my PJ on, and my hair was still rough with my hand on top of it. I mean, I just literally woke up and was definitely looking shabby, but, Nah, I did

Chapter 12
The training had begun a bit smooth for me. All of the techniques taught to us since the beginning of the training were all familiar to me. It was only one I had a bit of difficulty with, but I had been quick to master it.   I had thrown myself in a sports bra, yoga pants, and trainers before coming over for the training. It was expected of me to have the materials for the training because I had a few while I had been with my uncle. So it had accustomed to me even though I had forgotten it would be helpful for me in the Green Woods pack.   I couldn’t tell if it was out of instinct, but as I decided to look up at the main building of the packhouse, my sight caught someone unexpected staring right back at me. It was Alpha Ronald, Garrett’s father, looking out through one of the windows.    How long has he been there for, I wondered. I wanted to take my eyes off, but I couldn’t help but look at him for a while, even th

Chapter 13
Monica and I approached the two ladies standing by the bank of the lake. I trailed behind Monica during the process, using the few steps to observe the two ladies' faces.   As I had said before, one of the two ladies was familiar to me. And it was none other than Garrett’s self-acclaimed girlfriend. Ex-girlfriend, if I must say. What was her name again? Oh yes, Brix.   She was looking directly at me, almost like I was under scrutiny. It was almost too deep into my soul, and when I peeled my eyes off her to look at the lady with her, I realized it was the same situation. I guess I was in a messy case I had no idea of in the first place.   “Kylie, Brix,” I hear Monica say, referring to the ladies, “what are you guys doing here?”   I didn’t need anyone to tell me that Kylie was the name of the lady I wasn’t familiar with. And with the familiarity to which Monica had called the name, I think she has a re

Chapter 14
Now, when I said I thought he was going to be alarmed, I meant it. I really did. But what came as a bit of surprise to me was when his reaction came as the opposite of what I expected it to be. ‘Oh, that,’ came his reply, as if he just came to a realization. It was the neutrality to his tone that got me to the reality of the situation. ‘Aren’t you surprised?’ ‘Surprised about what?’ ‘That I trained with the other pack members,’ ‘I’m not. Why should I be?’ I held on a bit upon sensing that something was amiss. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if he really does know that the Green Woods pack trained their female members. We never really talked about it together. Coming across that fact sometime in the past was what made me remember it. But if he did know about it

Chapter 15
He was so deep into his thoughts that he didn’t realize he had gone a few minutes staring into space. His mind had trailed off to an event of the past, and it bothered him that such an event had invaded his mind once more after a long time of shutting his mind from such thought.   The screams invaded his mind like a plague. He could almost smell the scent of fresh blood in the process mixed in the air with smokes. The pleasure he had derived from watching his victims was another thing on its own, almost seeming like he was a maniac. Maybe he really had been a maniac during that period.   It was an event of so many years ago. But it only truly troubled him because the whole job hadn’t been a clean sweep. There was someone out there on the loose, and he was sure the said person would be after his life, and it was all because they couldn’t get the details of the person to know of his whereabouts. Many years and they still hadn’t gotten any resu

Chapter 16
Two days have passed since the confrontation I had with Kylie. And three has passed since the one I supposedly had with Garrett’s supposed girlfriend, or ex-lover, named Brix. Two threats in two days from two different individuals. And both were aiming at the same thing, which is for me to leave Garrett. It was somehow surprising to me that I was encountering such acts from them. When I had decided to come here — right from the moment I had begun figuring a way to get into this pack before I coincidentally got mated to the Alpha’s son — I never imagined being the one put on the threatening end. The picture in my head before my arrival was for me to cause chaos to all of their minds upon my arrival; that way, they would feel threatened. And from there, I would do things all too smoothly to get my task completed. But now it seems the table has turned. Maybe that’s why we never get all that we wish for.&nbs

Chapter 17
The breeze blew into the lonely room, which had Garrett in it. Garrett was there seated as he stared hard at his laptop while typing into it. Even with the stare being so hard, he found it challenging to keep up with the pace as he had his mind someplace else. He didn’t have it with the concentration today. Not when he hasn’t had a smooth ride in regards to his relationship with Adaliah. For two days now, he hasn’t had a proper conversation with Adaliah because there was something like a hindrance between both of them, which was most likely ruining their early relationship little by little. He didn’t even know how he was going to approach her because he was still not sure how she would react to the fact that he had someone else before her when he was supposed not to. She was jealous, that, he knew. However, she acted like nothing was up with her. And the jealousy she had was generated from the bon

Chapter 18
I need answers. And I guess that’s what led me out of bed today to go about exploring the main quarters of the packhouse. It was a crazy thought at first, being that I had just arrived here less than a week ago. But I had to remind myself that it was one of the main reasons I was here. And I have to fulfill those reasons. It was noon. And at this time of the day, I knew most of those in the household wouldn’t be available, so that was what gave me the little courage to explore the quarters conveniently. Noontime was majorly the idlest time of the day in terms of house activities and the likes. This is because most of the householders would have gone out to tend to whatever task they tend to do daily. I wasn’t shit scared as I walked around to do the necessary. I was scared, yes, but not to the extent of backing out. What I was being wary of, though, was Alpha Ronald. Hell no, I wasn

Chapter 19
How had I not perceived his scent the moment his presence became known? How had I not even sensed him? Even right now, I couldn’t. I can’t even say how long he has been there. Is he part of those whom Anya mentioned were capable of masking their presence? He sure did look like one, with his almost scary-looking face, which gave out a tense vibe. The man presently had a look that made it seem like he had intentions to have someone killed. I don't even know why I thought of that. It could as well be my mind messing up with me. And I think I might have gotten myself in trouble — unpredicted but expected trouble. I do not know the man. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before as well. I mean, with a man looking all scary like that, why the hell would I want to meet him or know him in the first place? There were patches of grey and black strings of hair on his almost completely bald hair, some

Chapter 20
He waited for the she-wolf to leave the floor before taking his hand out from his back, revealing the file he had been hiding all along. She sure was very observant, and he couldn’t hide the fact that she was good at that, but she might have failed to notice what he had been carrying. Her footsteps had faded already from the stairway, and it didn’t take time for him also to walk away from the path he had been standing for a while now as he edged up to where he had met the lady standing. He looked at the door for a brief moment before peeling his eyes off from it. The next thing he did was take in the scent of what she said had lured her to the place even though he didn’t have to. The smell was there, yes, but what she didn’t know was that there was another scent beneath that scent — a much stronger one. Realizing he was already running late for the reason he had been here in the first place,
