30: The world collide
“Can I ask why did you choose to wear those, though?” Ken asks, after a while of silence.“These were the first choices that came to my mind. It’s not like I saw something else and went with this one. I don’t like standing out from the rest as much as fate loves shoving me in that direction.” I grumble and run a palm over my face.“Did you not get the package that came with the slip passed underneath the door last night?”My brow rises. “I saw the slip, but I did not see any package,” I answer, turning to him with an unsure look on his face. “Wait, you got a package along with the note?”He nods his head, “I did and from the look of it, everyone on the bus except you did, hence we are all dressed this way.”“I didn’t get any such package...” I trailed off, “I’m going to be in trouble, but I didn’t see it, I only saw the note!&rdqu

31: Happiness is essential
I hear noises from the kitchen as I step in through the door; I know mama is home already. She’s home earlier than usual and, as surprising as it is, I like it. The first day of trial was exhausting, but I’m glad it’s over and also happy I’ll see mama before I go to bed. Instead of greeting her from the living room and heading to get a quick shower in my room like I usually do, I approach the kitchen. I hear small chuckles and my brows pull together, wondering who else is with her in the kitchen.Mama barely had friends; the last and only friend she had was Mrs Lopez and since the end of their friendship, I haven’t seen her hanging around or keeping in touch with anyone else. I guess the sudden end to her last friendship had left a mark on her until now. I step into the kitchen and beside mama, who attends to the pot on the fire, stands Lorenzo, watching closely. I didn’t see

32: The strength of a fighter matters
“We will all pair into two groups for today’s training,” Ken says, stepping out of the bus and following behind me.“How do you know?” I ask, my brow rising.“I overheard Avril telling the other guy? And also it’s in the guideline documents we got. As much as advancement is concerned, we will need to learn self-defence and the defence of our pack. Pack fallout is still a thing and no advancement of civilisation can stop that. If we are to train, pairing in two would be the logical way to go about it.”“I think it’s a good thing that alpha Dane is taking everything into consideration.” Caroline chips in.My mind wanders to last week when he stood up for me and later on came to my corner and helped me with my assignment. It was good of him and though I haven’t seen him since then; I appreciate the effort.I’ve tried to take my raging heart from longing for him, especially a

Caroline gasps at the impact and I fall to the floor with a hard tug. My eyes meet Ken, whose lips pressed together to control his emotions raging from fear angering.I grit my teeth and struggle to get up to my feet, my hands balling into a fist. Rose smirks as if she has me figured out. Once again, she darts in my direction at full speed, but I duck and this time my fist collides with her face.It does little to her, but it felt good doing it. Her teeth clench and she swings at me and I step back in time to miss the blow and I deliver two quick punches to her face. This one makes her stumble back a few steps. When her head rises again, I see blood on the corner of her lips, making me gasp at what I’ve done. She wipes the blood from her mouth and her eyes glowed, as she starts towards me in full force and this time I don’t escape and she tackles me to the floor delivering punches after punches to me and the last hard fist collide

34: The many trials of friendships
The days of the training flew faster than I expected and soon days became weeks and so far we are at the end of the fourth week. The third week we trained on resistance, controlling our emotions especially our rage and sadness and it was easier said than done. This week, however, we trained on our focus and ability to adapt to changes and I've done that from my corner in the last five days. I did my best to not be the odd man out, and I paid keen attention to my environment, listening to instructions and following them religiously. I wanted to stay out of trouble as much as I could and did not want to anger any more supervisors I got.I haven't seen Dane in three weeks, not since the first week that he spoke in my defence. I've also become better so no one would have to rescue me now and then. I needed to be a worthy participant and I've done that so far. After being the odd man out and stepping on the wrong wires for the first two weeks, I stepped up my g

35: The guilt of doing nothing
"You're mad about India." he points out flatly.I turn to him abruptly, my eyes wide and alert. "Can you blame me? After everything she's done, you chose her and placed her on our seat. I mean she's not even your date yet and you're already throwing your friends away. I wonder what you'll do after three months. It feels almost as if you forget what she did to you. The memory should be enough to keep you away from her."He heaves a deep sigh and his head drop, "Jaclyn, it's not as simple as you make it seem.""I have one question, did you accept her rejection after prom like you promised?"I've never asked because I took him by his words when he said it, but now I need an answer. He hesitates, his eyes betraying him as they stray from mine and my teeth clench."You kissed me on prom night and I thought that was your way of trying to move on but that's not it, is it?" I explode in his face, losing the last grip on my control and wanting to str

37: Blinded by sight
Ken’s POV  I knock on the door and after a few seconds later; it opens and India Lopez comes out in all her glory. She stands before me in a blue silk gown that hugs her curves in all the right places. A smile plaster on her face and my eyes light up to see her. She places her hand on her hips. “What do you think?” I take her in from head to toe. She’s indeed pretty. “You look great,” I gush and leaned in to kiss her lips, but she brushes past me and steps out of the room. She offered me her hand and I take and together we make our way out of the house. My eyes linger on Jaclyn as we step up towards them after stepping out of the room heading towards the party hall. I saw she looked displeased, perhaps even annoyed, but she masks it all up. She’s that good.  Jaclyn has always had a thing for masking her emotions and only showed them around very few people. And once, I was one of those people.

38: Nothing good comes with trouble
I needed to get out and get air as fast as I could. The inside has choked the life out of me, and I don’t want to be anywhere near Quinton or Ken.  As soon as I step outside, I glance upward at the beautiful night sky allured by the peace and comfort it brought to me a feeling that everything will be fine.  I sighed and my eyes fluttered briefly, taking in the coldness and the feel of loneliness in for maybe a second more before returning inside. When my eyes flutter open, I notice the change in my surrounding as standing outside and taking in the breeze’s coldness was the last thing I remember. I no longer stand outside, rather I see myself at the corner of a room with no memory of how I got here.  Confused and terrified, I spin around, trying to figure out where exactly I now am. I know there is no such thing because I have never been here before, so I wouldn’t be able to tell where I am. But I have to get out of here and find those I

39: Breaking the rules
Dane’s POV“What’s wrong with your hand?” she asked with a curious voice.“What?” I ask, a little taken aback by her question. Her gaze lifts to meet my narrowed eyes before moving back to my right arm. “Why does it glow?” she asks again, her voice sounding more curious than a few seconds ago.No one has ever seen my mark; not since it appeared after I had my premier shift. According to its history, no one except the werewolf bearing it sees it. It has been a mark passed down for generations amongst the firstborn of my bloodline. Being firstborn of my father, I inherited the mark and so far not even the members of my family know its shape or colour. This human right here can somehow see it and that surprises and scares me, even as I wonder what that might mean.“How is it you can see it?” I ask, confusion taking o
