31: Happiness is essential

I hear noises from the kitchen as I step in through the door; I know mama is home already. 

She’s home earlier than usual and, as surprising as it is, I like it. The first day of trial was exhausting, but I’m glad it’s over and also happy I’ll see mama before I go to bed. 

Instead of greeting her from the living room and heading to get a quick shower in my room like I usually do, I approach the kitchen. 

I hear small chuckles and my brows pull together, wondering who else is with her in the kitchen.

Mama barely had friends; the last and only friend she had was Mrs Lopez and since the end of their friendship, I haven’t seen her hanging around or keeping in touch with anyone else. I guess the sudden end to her last friendship had left a mark on her until now. 

I step into the kitchen and beside mama, who attends to the pot on the fire, stands Lorenzo, watching closely.
