Chapter 111
Maverick's Point of View Ozias had disposed of the body in the backyard. Took photos of the man's face, or what was left of it, to see from where he came. Maybe some of our allies had made use of him before. Could tell us anything about where he came from. That type of information could help us narrow down who had hired him. Although, I could see in Ciaran's face that he had his suspicions. He barely spoke through breakfast. Got up and dressed without saying a word to even Alvara. Our mate watched him leave. Saw the tension in his shoulders and remained silent. He needed to brood. To figure things out inside himself before he opened up to any of us. Ozias had only joined later. His pajama bottoms were discarded in the trash. A fresh pair of slacks hung on him. Fixing a new cup of coffee he sat down at the table. Dargan was busy eating when Ozias finally spoke up. He looked at Alvara, a mix of sadness and anger on his face. "I

Chapter 112
Dargan's Point of View Maverick had taken Alvara to the backyard. There was a determination on her face that none of us had seen before. The face of an Alpha ready to devour the world in hopes of sparing its people. It was a sight to behold. Something I had never thought possible with her. Ozias had gone back to his room to prep for the day. Businesses still needed running and Ciaran was too tired to do anything but scowl. I had mocked him, saying that if he kept looking that way his face would freeze. He had told me that was a story a child was told by their mother. It was still amusing to watch him. All of our batteries were running dangerously low. Critical levels. The past events had taken their toll on all of our bodies. Bruises had also started blossoming on Maverick's side and I knew the attacker had gotten in his fair share of blows. When I noticed it, Maverick had jumped up and got dressed. As if he wanted no one to know of

Chapter 113
Ciaran's Point of View "Where the fuck is she?" I hollered through the house. The glass surrounding me vibrated from the force. Red bled into my vision. Blurred the lines of reality and fiction. Anger bubbled and boiled just beneath my throat. When Dargan's voice had popped into my mind with what he knew, I couldn't contain my rage. For years, I had pushed the girl away. Kept her at arm's length at all costs. The moment she crossed into the friend zone with my family and this is what she does. Sends an assassin after my mate. There was only one person who had the security schedule around them constantly. Knew where everyone was at the time of Alvara's attack. Sybil. But she wouldn't betray us. Not in the same way her daughter would. Adelia had been off the last couple of days and now I knew why. She had stolen her mother's plans and used them for whatever she wanted. "She is in your office," Harland called from the top of the

Chapter 114
Alvara's Point of View I had never expected this from Adelia. The girl had her faults and problems but this was something that blindsided me. Our friendship was new. Fragile. Yet I had trusted her fully. Brought her into my life hoping that we were the same kind of person. Everyone made mistakes. No one was immune to it. She had just fallen into a bad pattern. Believed her father with her whole heart. Wanted to please him in every way. Or so I had assumed. But I wouldn't know until I spoke with her. I shook the heartbreak from my mind. Quieted the voices that screamed at me to run away. Dargan had moved forward and placed Sybil under arrest. The woman I had thought could be like a mother figure to me. But her betrayal hurt Ciaran more than anyone else. You could see it on his face. "I gave myself up so that she could stay here! And now you send me to death and her out to die!" Sybil screamed when Dargan moved her from the roo

Chapter 115
Alvara's Point of View By morning, Sybil was already out of her cell. Her last meal had been shrimp scampy. Her last drink was fountain water. Dargan had taken her request last night. Delivered it to her before the sun even rose. This didn't mean she had accepted her fate. On the contrary. Had pleaded several times with Ciaran to spare her. Mercy for the healer who had done so much for them. But that was exactly why he had no mercy for her. The street they had occupied went both ways and she had betrayed their terms of the contract. Not just their physical contract but the unspoken one as well.  Ciaran had seen her as another mother figure. Someone he held to incredibly high standards. Then she had turned around and hurt him in the most fragile parts of his heart. The part where only his mother was allowed to dwell. What happened to her now was her own fault. If Sybil had come to Ciaran with what was happening the moment

Chapter 116
Alvara’s Point of View Light had barely reached the outskirts of Eiecrunt when Ciaran had woken me up. Bags had formed beneath his eyes. His hair was an oily mess, sticking up in every direction. One small bag lay on the ground next to my bed. Just enough random clothes to make it look like I hadn’t planned my escape to happen so soon. Pain danced in his eyes and I sat up. Rubbing my eyes with the backs of my hands, I looked at him fully. Puffy red eyes. He had been crying, there was no doubt about it. Losing Sybil had affected him more than he cared to show. The sound of her body dropping would always play in the back of my mind. “Today is the day.” Ciaran breathed. His hand wrapped itself around mine and he squeezed. I looked at him with a lopsided frown. None of us wanted this day to come but we saw no other options. We had dried up all other avenues. I hated that I had to part with them. Even if it was only for a little while.

Chapter 117
Alvara’s Point of ViewRolling grassy hills and small streams dotted the countryside as we rode on in near silence. The radio was set to songs I had no idea about. Teagan would sing along every once in a while, but would silence herself the moment the car made a slightly different sound. Her head would also turn back every now and again, glancing at the road we had already driven.Farm houses were tucked into small hills, sheep and cows grazing at the grass in front. Neither of us wanted to admit how terrifying it was heading into the almost unknown. Teagan had never been to Half-Moon, lucky for her, so heading in now, she was blind. I had tried my best to explain to her what to expect but words couldn’t always do it justice. Just how backward those people were. Hopefully, my people were better.Mason had left an hour or so before us. Would almost be in Half-Moon by now. He was tasked with finding the most prominent figure i

Chapter 118
Alvara’s Point of ViewEugene made us wait an extra hour. Had us sitting in our car as if we were criminals. A part of me knew he just wanted to show me that he controlled me. Controlled what I did and who I saw. The guards went back to playing cards. To laughing at each other and running around pretending to shoot their friends. None of it was amusing. But when the time came, Eugene arrived in style.A new Lambo drove towards us. Candy apple red. Sound bouncing from inside the speakers. I wanted to scream at him when I saw it. Punch him in the face and never apologize. He used the money that was supposed to go to the people for his own gain. Paid a lot of money for things no one needed. Never thought of his starving people. My people. I hated him more for it.When he stopped in front of the gate on the other side, I willed my wild heart to yield. Made myself look every bit of the damsel in distress I knew he wanted me to be. He w

Chapter 119
Alvara’s Point of ViewWhen Angelique saw me, the blood drained from her face. Her eyes darted towards Eugene and then to Mariposa. Both seemed calm. Cool. They stayed a healthy distance away from each other but I could see them hover closer by the second. The mating bond between them was still strong. The life inside of her made Eugene’s Alpha instincts take over. Teagan kept a healthy distance away from them as well. Barely looked in their direction. But Angelique’s reaction was priceless. She nearly dropped a plate when she saw me. Her eyes went wide and her jaw slackened. As if she had seen a ghost. To my surprise, she greeted me with a tense smile. Not a usual sneer or comment. The old Luna knew that I had the upper hand here. That at the end of the day I would get out of this hellhole whilst her son made her life a living hell. So, she bit her tongue and placed the food on the dining room table.“Luna. I am

Chapter 120
Alvara’s Point of ViewMason met us at the house. Unlike when I had first met him, he had a suit on. Sunglasses. Polished shoes. As if he had changed overnight. The young man I had come to know was gone. When Eugene greeted him, he simply gave a curt ‘Alpha’ and a bow of the head. Everything felt formal. Stuffy. As if the air had thickened in just a few seconds. Teagan looked between the two men and shrugged when I looked at her.I had personally asked for Mason, but it still didn’t mean that we were completely safe to wander around. The rest of the pack was still on Eugene’s side, and I had returned. Once an outsider, always an outsider. At least now I knew why they had stayed away.As for Lover’s Quarrel members, they had stayed away because Eugene had threatened them. Told them that if they interfered with me, they would lose their jobs or their lives. None of them would risk that. Until now.
