What’s wrong?’ Luke quickly asked her.‘I couldn’t sleep.’ Vera answered him.She then looked down. Vera was nervous. And Luke saw that she was and wondered why.‘Do you want to come in?’ Luke asked, before thinking. ‘Or, I can make you a drink.’ He quickly added. He didn’t want to scare her. Because for all of their relationship, Vera hasn’t been in his room yet.Not with him in it anyway. It was always Luke hanging out in her room.Luke was surprised when Vera agreed to come in.He smiled at her and stepped aside to let her in.All the while, his heart was beating so fast.He left the door open, so it wouldn’t scare her.Vera walked in and stopped near the mantle piece

She felt very much loved by Mara. And she loved her too.Though, suddenly Vera heard a voice she thought she wouldn’t hear again. It made her stiffen. She did not want to deal with the woman who the voice belonged to.That voice was her mother.Though, she had walked out on her family over six years ago now.Because they did not treat her right. They treated her more like a slave.‘Vera, is that you?’ The woman asked.Mara had felt Vera stiffen and instantly she was on the offense.‘Who are you?’ Mara demanded.Vera’s mother recognized her as the matriarch of the Reynolds family, which resulted in her taking a startled breath.V
