Thomas darted a quick look around the hallway before silently slipping into Cara’s office. His aim was to get in and out as quickly as possible. He didn’t have the time or energy to deal with the questions that would be asked of him if he was found. He had no clue what it was he was looking for, he just knew there was no logical explanation for Cara’s heightened security. She had to be up to something and he needed the proof.  He started with the bookshelves, looking for anything out of the ordinary, then moved on to the storage cupboard that seemed to be filled with nothing but stationery and a change of clothes. He sat down at her desk, opening the drawers and rifling through their contents. Cara had been buzzing with anticipation all day at the thought of finally being with Dane again. Lina had been trying to talk her out of it, insistent, but Cara had pushed her wolf from her mind and blocked her. She’d tried to give up Dane, but he was just as much a part of her as Lucas was now. She couldn’t be without either of them, except she didn’t need a mate-bond to tell her how important Dane was to her. After sleeping with Cara the previous day, Dane had decided to stay at the Cape house, but the high and buzz he’d felt after their intimacy was quickly waning. He’d sent her numerous messages and tried calling, but received no response. Radio silence.  Not for the first time, Cara’s actions and intentions confused him. Their on again, off again relationship had taken another turn, and he was still unsure what it all meant.  Stig’s negativity towards Cara was at an all-time high, and Dane had to admit that even he didn’t understand his own actions. He shouldn’t have been able to forgive her, yet she was still everything he wanted. Dane put his glass in the dishwasher and answered the knock at the front door to greet Gamma Joseph.

“Please, Alpha King!” pleaded Lucas. “First, tell us what this is about, and where it’s coming from?” Alpha King Julius leant forward and clasped his hands together, staring back at Lucas with a hard look and a single raised eyebrow. This was a man who would accept nothing less than the truth. “I had a call from some concerned members of your pack…” The fucking nutters, both Lucas and Dane thought to themselves at the same time. “…about the manner in which you took control of your packs, the merging of both territories, and finally their concerns for their welfare in the kind of pack you’re building.&r

Cara looked up as the door opened and Dane entered. She could see on his face that he was just as taken aback at her appearance as Lucas had been. He sat on the couch across from her, careful to keep his distance under Lucas’ roof. “Lucas said you had something to talk to me about. You look awful, what happened?” he asked. “I told Lucas what I did to your mate,” she replied, avoiding eye contact. “I also told him that you didn't know about it. He demanded I tell you.” “I don’t get it. Why would you even tell him about that?”  “Lina abandoned me.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
