Selena I spend most of the evening in the shower, crying until no tears are left to cry. I feel as dirty as I did the night before the ceremony.  As the memories run through my mind, I wonder, what if Kane was the one who saved me? But even if he was, after everything that's happened, why did he lock me in a cage he calls home? I turn off the water, push the shower curtain aside, and step out of the bathtub.  I don't know what to feel or think when Kane comes back. I wrap a towel around my body and leave the bathroom. I wait a moment to check if there are no noises and I'm still alone. Only when I'm sure Kane's not home yet do I go to his closet.&

Selena "First, I want to ask something," I avert my gaze from Kane's eyes as my cheeks turn bright red. "I heard my parents talking about shifters going into heat. You too?" "Yes." "What will happen?" I have no idea what the heat is, but I don't want to take any chances.  "Since you're definitely not ready for the season, I'll probably take you to your parents and leave until the season ends. Preferably stay chained to a tree or in a cell. Depends on how bad it's going to hit me." Kane shrugs as if he doesn't care. A new idea strikes me, and I instantly question Kane. "What if you go into the heat and I'm still near you?" 

Selena I stare at Kane in confusion. It takes a few seconds of eye contact with him for me to notice the little flame in his eyes. "It's the heat, isn't it?" I whisper.  "Get. The. Fuck. Out!" Kane roars, clenching his jaw. I can see the veins on his neck bulging.  And at that moment, I realize how fucked I am if I don't move. Just like Kane mentioned- literally and often.  I jump out of the tub and run into the bedroom. I close the bathroom door, hoping it will buy me some time.  I grab the shirt and sweatpants Kane dropped on the floor, get dressed, and storm out of the apartment.  

Kane   I leave the building and scan my surroundings. Although I've spent my whole life in this territory, I don't know where I am.    "Check the parents' house; she might be there. We can't leave her alone." Onyx suggests the easiest option.    I avoid talking and head straight out of the forest, hoping to find my way around.    When I finally reach her parents' house, there's no sign of Selena. Next, I make my way to the packhouse, and that's another big disappointment since she's not there either.    I'm worried to the bone. Fear creeps up on me- what if they took her away from me?  

Kane Selena stares out the window. She's probably still angry with me. I wouldn't start anything if I knew we didn't have enough time to finish it.  I turn the steering wheel and drive off the main road into the wooded area.  "Where are we going?" Selena finally speaks up.  "I have some business to attend to." She doesn't need to know the details.  "Okay, but why are we going there? This road looks shady." Selena clenches the bottom of her skirt.  "This is the shortcut; you don't have to be scared, kitten," I announce, placing a hand on her thigh to reassure her.
