Chapter 31 - Daniela
Whatever that blood oath or unbreakable vow was, it was damn powerful. Khalid tried to hide it, to keep me from feeling it, but I did. It was draining as fuck, and just like how his sister needed Kurt to keep her standing, he’s lucky I caught him and got him back to the sofa. I tried to lend him some more of my strength. Otherwise, he will fall asleep here and now while we are in the middle of some seriously heavy shit. Heavy in the sense that Kurt has a half-sibling in the care of his enemy Noya. I can see how that would be a huge liability for both parties. However, it does give us a better advantage. Kurt is older and therefore capable of controlling his link to this child. The child has just come of age and won’t know how to keep Kurt out consistently. So while the liability of being traced is, there is something more problematic. This child is possibly the product of Kurt’s father and his true mate, which to many would mean they have a stronger claim to the title—making them a v

Chapter 32 - Khalid
Why does she have to do that? Piss me off? When I let her feed on me because our blood bags went bad, she was more than happy to remind me how I said she’d never get her fangs into me. It’s like she gets a kick out of pissing me off. I wouldn’t be surprised, given how much we fight and how many times that turns into sex. So why would it be any different this time? I probably should care more about being in my sister’s apartment. But as Dani’s fangs sink into my skin, into the rose mark she left on my skin, common sense goes out the window. That first puncture stings like a wasp, making me wince at that first moment. But then it all changes. Where a wasp sting would leave discomfort as a vampire, Dani controls what I feel from her bite. I should count myself lucky that she makes me feel pleasure. Not that she hadn’t already started getting me wound up before her fangs grazed my flesh. I should be worried about how much blood she’s draining. Instead, I’m concerned about how to get her

Chapter 33 - Khalid
While we waited for word from Isis in her quest to retrieve the Argylls scepter from a Kinsley vault at the bank, Aunt Sarael caught me up on other things that have been happening while I was running for my life and in hiding with Dani. We talked about her wolf Nova and the rock on her ringer finger. I guess I missed a lot while I was running away and in hiding with Dani. Before long, we were called to the packhouse as there was a new development. I was not too fond of the idea of leaving Dani. Even with all the assurances in the world, she was perfectly safe sleeping at Isis’ apartment. But I left after making sure she was asleep and kissing her goodbye, earning myself a half-awake eye roll for disturbing her. We were directed into a large living room, where I can only assume every ranked wolf person and their guards were present, given how packed the room was. Aunt Sarael had me sit beside her while we waited for everyone else. When Isis entered, I stood up to greet her but was for

Chapter 34 - Khalid
“We can worry about Khalid’s first impression with the vampire clan later. We should focus on having a plan in place for dealing with the magic.” Aunt Sarael chided as we walked into her home. It was bigger than her place in Eugene. It looked more like a home meant for a family. I suppose now that she’s mated, it won’t be long before that happens. The pitter-patter of little hybrid feet will race across these hardwood floors. I’ll have cousins who are over a decade younger than me. Thinking about that possibility led my mind down another path. Isis is mated, and as long as everything goes right will be a Luna. She’ll be expected to have an heir and probably sooner than later. I’ll be an Uncle. That scares the shit out of me. “If Ductus Caleb offers aid, be it full force or just the help of Byron to detect the magic, we must still be able to shut it down.” Aunt Sarael sighed, going directly into the study at the front of the house. I cautiously followed her, glancing back at John and

Chapter 35 - Daniela
It’s crazy the amount of shit you miss when you sleep the day away. I’d like to say my sleep was peaceful. After sleeping in the backseat of a car, having a bed should have allowed me to rest without issue. The problem is this bed, the whole apartment, and the building smell of werewolves. I’m not saying werewolves smell, but well, they do. Then add in going to bed sexually frustrated. Between Khalid’s Aunt Sarael and her guard interrupting us, he had to go and talk about his fucking ex. Seriously, who does that? That would be like me discussing past lovers casually while he’s fucking me. It’s damn rude. I suppose I should count myself lucky he’s too young to have as long of a list of exes as mine. I don’t want to hear about that twit. So overall, my sleep was not restful to begin with. And when I did fall asleep, those stupid nightmares about Toño killing my son have now morphed into him killing Khalid. I don’t know which is worse, and that’s fucking with me. The correct answer sho

Chapter 36 - Daniela
“I’m assuming he is informing someone we are on the move,” Khalid commented as he handed me a hooded jacket. “I was telling Nigel we are going. He will follow us to ensure Isis’s safety.” Kurt shrugged. “Nigel can detect the presence of others. He’ll know if anyone is following us or if danger is incoming.” Isis explained as we headed to the car. That’s a valuable skill. Nice to know the wolf is as helpful as handsome. Yes, I thought that specifically to annoy Khalid. This wasn’t the first time we’ve had to make this walk to a car while the sun was still up. I shrugged the jack on, pulling the hood up to hide, looping an arm with Khalid using his frame like a shield from the sun. So he knows the deal. We walked at the same pace, and he ensured his shadow blocked the sun with every step. “You can drive since you know where you’re going,” Khalid said, tossing the keys at Kurt with one hand while swiftly opening the rear passenger door for me to get in. I told them earlier I didn’t ne

Chapter 37 - Khalid
I’m unsure how I feel knowing that Dani has spoken to Dania. I can only assume Dania would call because the guild was hoping to get my location from it. So, it explains why my phone was destroyed so suddenly, and I had to get a new one. Now I’m curious what they spoke about. We didn’t have anything left to say to each other after I broke up with her. Maybe she had things to say. I just don’t want to hear them. I can ask her about that later. I’ll add it to the list of things we should talk about. I’m sure she’ll want to know more details about what happened while she was asleep, and I’ll fill her in on most of it. I will skip the nightmare fuel walking into the greenhouse at John and Aunt Sarael’s house. I would like to forget it ever happened. It’s bad enough I’ve heard them having sex. Dani does not need to hear about the trauma of walking in on my Aunt’s hand in John’s pants while his hands were pushing her shirt up as they were a few moments from fucking on the wooden table in th

Chapter 38 - Khalid
“How old is the girl?” Caleb questioned. “Eight, maybe nine. We didn’t even know Kurt had a sibling until recently when she came of age for the family link to click into place. And then security footage of her parents using her to steal something from a vault six years ago.” Isis explained. “She was young in the video, a toddler at best. Siegfried and his mate used their daughter to steal my inheritance from my grandmother.” Kurt explained with a heavy sigh. “Steal your inheritance? What did they steal, and why would they need a toddler for that?” Caleb inquired. I could see the hesitation in Kurt’s face as he looked at Isis, probably sharing a private conversation on how much to share. “A silver scepter. It is enchanted only to let the rightful Alpha of the Silverclaw pack hold it. My grandmother was the last in our line who could hold it. Obviously, Siegfried wasn’t able to. And given it is made of silver, he used my sister as she was too young to be injured by silver to take it.

I knew I shouldn’t have left Caleb alone with Khalid. He doesn’t always know when to keep his mouth shut. I don’t know what he told Khalid. I know it’s got him annoyed with me. Not the good “I’m getting fucked hard later” kind of annoyed. The “I’m going to have to answer questions” annoyed. When I find out what happened while I was busy proving to Mariana which of us is stronger, I’m kicking Caleb’s ass. I almost wanted Caleb to tell them no. It’s selfish, of course. I don’t want to deal with Khalid and Byron in one place. I know Bryon, and he will act like a stupid jealous ass when he finds out Khalid is my mate. But I’ll put my selfish desire not to deal with that drama to secure the safety of this child. I don’t have to know Kurt or this sister he never knew. She’s a child, and hurting children is my no-go rule. A rule I know Caleb follows too. He had a kid before he was turned, so he has a soft spot on that subject. So I wasn’t surprised that after hearing that a child was involv

Chapter 40 - Khalid
Damn it. Dani distracted me with sex. Well, a blow job and then sex. But still, I had been set that I would get answers as soon as we were alone. It shows how little control I have over myself when I’m with her. I would say it’s because she marked me, but that would be a lie. She pushes my buttons all the right way to get me into a lust frenzy. But I managed to get my mind back on track after that lust haze faded. I didn’t think this would be some light-hearted talk, but I wasn’t prepared for how heavy it would be. When Dani got out of bed, I thought maybe it was to pace, but she put my shirt on, and that was my first clue this was going to be a serious conversation. If I’ve learned anything about Daniela, it’s that she’s not shy. She owns her body and wields it like a weapon. At least against me, it feels. I can’t count how many times she stayed naked if we argued after she woke up or if she woke up during the day. She didn’t even throw a robe on when hotel staff came in to clean or
