The Dark Lord
Sephora took a deep breath. Reminding herself she was doing this for her people, that they needed information on Vince's plans. If Ravyn had come up with nothing through spying, then Sephora had to get it through other means. This was necessary. She could do this, she wouldn't allow herself to be intimidated or afraid - she wouldn't be afraid.So Sephora squared her shoulders, well aware she was still in her gold and silver evening dress. Perhaps that could also work in her favor, she told herself. Before her, Vince's grin widened, and so Sephora took a step forward.The Lady of light walked up the the Lord of darkness, with her shoulders back and her head held high. And watched the Lord give a low bow, before straightening and offering her a large, tanned hand. Sephora took his hand without hesitation, marveling at how someone who lived in shadows and darkness, could be so tanned - maybe he could let her father in on a few pointers of how he did it. But Sephora quickly shut out the t

l had amassed an army - and she wanted to know why."Speaking of the night sky, it's very late for you to still be awake." Sephora hinted. The Lord looked down at her, brows high,"So concerned with my sleeping habits, my Lady - whatever will your beloved mate think?" He smirked, as Sephora glared at him."You know what I'm getting at." She replaced the glowing star back amongst the others. She looked back at the handsome Lord. "You were waiting for me in the hallway, how did you know I was coming?" Sephora questioned.Vince shrugged, "I'm a Lord, I'm supposed to know these things." He gave a wicked smile, "Especially when a beautiful young female is in need of my assistance." His eyes sparked with mischief and Sephora snorted, despite herself."That's not an answer." She protested. And using his avoidance of her question to her advantage, she sighed and added, "All you Lords are the same, always hiding things from me - why can't you just be honest with me?"Vince instantly took the b

Return
"Leave that to me." Sephora smiled, and began to head for the door, Vince quietly followed. And just because he would trust her more, and it was the truth, she turned to him and said, "I believe in your dream, too, Vince. I had to leave my family behind. They probably think I'm dead, and my brother who is only 5 - has had to live in fear all his life. If there is a way to change the veil-stones, I will do anything I can to help."Vince gave a sad smile, and nodded, "Thank you."He pushed the door open for her, and lead her down the dark corridors once again, until they came to an archway - filled with swirling black mist and shadows. A portal. They stopped before it and Vince picked up Sephora's hand, to gently kiss the back of it."Until, we meet again." Vince dropped her hand, and gave Sephora a smooth bow.She smiled and offered him a curtsy, "Good evening, my Lord."And with that, the Lady of light turned her back on the Lord of darkness, and stepped into the portal.Sephora arriv

Confession
Sephora woke up nice and early, despite only getting 5 hours sleep, thanks to her little nightly escapade. She dragged herself out of bed and down to the fighting pit, expecting to be greeted by the beautiful face of her mate - to find that it wasn't Ambrose who was waiting for her, but Joe.Sephora couldn't deny the bitter disappointment that arose at the thought that he was still avoiding her. Especially when Joe began eyeing her wearily as she approached. She sighed and jumped down into the pit, red dust emitting from her feet as she landed. She glared at the General before her,"Stop looking at me like that." She snapped at him. Still furious at him for when he'd blocked her path to her mate. And then, for when he'd disappeared without an explanation, leaving Sephora wondering what she'd done wrong.Joe wisely let his gaze soften, and he even looked apologetic, eyes downcast at the floor. He began to speak, Sephora could practically see the string of excuses forming from his mouth

Confession ||
Ravyn noticed Sephora eyeing out the piano, and smiled a little. Sephora witnessed that smile, and humbled herself enough to admit,"I used to play the piano with my mother." She told the Shadow. Instantly wishing her mother were here to play with her now. Sephora quickly pushed the feeling away - it was too painful.But there was understanding in the Shadow's eyes, and the smile disappeared, "I'm sorry."Sephora frowned, "What for?""That you were taken from your family." Ravyn's face was so full of anguish and sorrow. That Sephora felt like she'd been punched in the stomach for ever disliking the female. And the way she'd said it -"You know what that feels like?" Sephora's question was tentative, as though trying not to upset the Shadow further.Ravyn shook her head, tears already swelling in the depths of those blue eyes. "My mother died giving birth to me." She whispered. Sephora was stunned into silence. "I have no idea what she looked like, except that she had blue eyes like mi

Three Little words
Sephora didn't know why she was so surprised. It explained so much, how the Shadow and her mate were such close friends, how they seemed to have this unspoken understanding between the two of them. Sephora was just mostly relieved, because it lead her to hope - that maybe there was nothing really going on between her Lord and his Shadow.Sephora lifted her legs up onto the sofa and crossed them beneath her, leaning forward slightly as she clarified, "Ambrose got you out?" Urging the Shadow to carry on with her story.Ravyn seemed to understand the hint and nodded with that gentle smile, "Ambrose spotted me just after his mother's death. I was there to collect information for Vince, on how she'd died - when Ambrose approached me and saw how pale I was, how thin. Honestly, he told me straight out, that I looked like death warmed up." Ravyn huffed a laugh, "A really flattering thing to say to a female, don't you think?"Despite herself, and the jarring story she was hearing, Sephora's mo

Love
She began stressing as she made her way up the steps toward his study. She didn't know what to say, whether she should apologize, to say that she understood why he'd avoided her, to forgive him for hurting her - she had no idea what to do.All those words she'd built up and arguments she'd constructed in her head, had been completely washed away by what she'd been told about last night. Ambrose hadn't wanted to hurt her, he was trying to spare her from his actions, just as he'd always done - he didn't want to force her into anything. Sephora's heart pained at the thought, at the fact that he had that much respect and care for her. He had no idea how much she loved him because of that.Sephora reached the door to his study, the obsidian door, cold beneath her clammy fingers. Was she really that nervous? She quickly brushed her hands down her pale blue chiffon and gold dress, the same shade of blue Ambrose had worn last night. Taking a deep breath, she braced herself, before gently easi

Affection
Ambrose's dark laugh rumbled like thunder against her mouth. A laugh which she echoed, before ripping his shirt off his back for good measure, wanting to feel his skin under her fingers, to trace her hands over every inch of corded muscle.Ambrose let out a groan, as he kissed her, sending fire through Sephora's blood. She arched into him, and he leaned down to kiss her neck, her collar-bone, the soft spot below her ear - it was her turn to let out a moan. Fisting her hand in his light brown hair, as he continued to press himself against her. He was still dragging his teeth along her skin, when she took his face in her hands and kissed him deeply again.Sephora had never felt so alive, like her body had been asleep all this time, and had been woken up by Ambrose's touch. She couldn't get enough, she wanted more, it was like a slow death that you couldn't help but enjoy every second of it. Ambrose was going to destroy her, wreck her - with the way he was touching her, the way his lips

Dangerous game
After playing the piano, until her fingers were stiff and bruised, and her heart and soul had finally returned from the clouds to re-inhabit her body, Sephora trudged up to bed and collapsed onto the silken covers. Exhaustion dragging her to sleep, after her late night visit with Vince during the ungodly hours of the morning.She woke up a few hours later, to glance at her bedside desk, her clock telling her that it was almost time for dinner. Sephora groaned and rolled onto her back, staring at the cream ceiling of her four-poster bed, reluctant at wanting to get up anytime soon.She was still silently stressing about when to tell Ambrose what she'd been up to. After she'd quite deliberately gone behind his back, and did exactly what he'd told her not to do - which was play into Vince's hand, to get information. And although it made her a hypocrite, for not being honest with him, and it made her untrustworthy for disobeying him - she'd got the information they so desperately needed,

The First Sacrifice
The next morning, as instructed, Sephora got up before sunrise to dress into her fighting leathers. And although, she slept better than she had the previous night, Sephora had still been tossing and turning in her covers. Still worrying over the information she'd withheld from her mate.She wanted to tell him everything, tell him of Vince's plan, tell him the good that changing the veil would do. Sephora would have asked Ambrose why he'd refused Vince to change the veil-stones, but that would only cause suspicion, and call into question the reason behind the peace-meeting she'd suggested. So Sephora was left to silently suffer, and wait in dread and anticipation for Vince's arrival.Sephora strolled out of the double-doors, of the pastel green breakfast room, and into the garden. The air was crisp and cool as she took a deep breath into her lungs, savoring it's freshness and the gorgeous faint smell of roses. The sun hadn't come up yet, and so a light mist hung over the gardens, besto
