Because of too much regret that itched my heart, I gritted my teeth to the point that the surface of my lips got a tiny cut. Of all the humans with me in the room last night, the one I bestowed the cursed kiss had to be Christian, my best friend. He was the only human out of the millions living all over Spain with whom I could share everything about myself except for the fact that there lived a beast inside me. The worst thing that my wolf had been avoiding for the past three years happened again. Right in front of my eyes was a lifeless poor human. I should have known better. My wolf would rather consider it acceptable if the one I murdered with my cursed kiss was one of the female humans. But in the end, that bottle of wine got me wasted to the point that I was not even aware of what time they headed out last night. The last thing I remember was that Christian and I crawled onto the bed and then his cold arms around me found solace in my warm skin. Thereafter, everything turned

"Aren't I supposed to be the one asking you that, Christian?" I frowned while scanning the entire forest. Unfolding the mystery behind my mask was supposed to be forbidden. Worries flashed over me once anyone from the pack discovered that recklessness. My wolf shouldn't have done that in front of anyone or even Christian, but confessing to him was the only way, I believed, to let him stay. "I mean, you just witnessed something extraordinary - beyond human imagination." I continued, "Aren't you scared of me? I killed humans, Christian." To my surprise, Christian bestowed a humble smile on his face and dared slide closer to me. He crouched and reached out to my cheeks. "You're not even listening, are you?" he asked, "Let me say it again. I like you, Justine, either as a monster or as my best friend. Even if we have known each other for a year, to me, I have known you for like... half of my life." Then he caressed the dense fur on my forehead before he continued, "I want to be with

The alpha wolf and his pack members exchanged profound glances. And I somehow find it hard to read what was running through their minds when most of my werewolf abilities had gone dormant. My anger and resentment began to burst out when the wolf who dared lay his claws at Christian finally showed up. I smelled Chistian's blood in his claws. A part of me wanted to charge at the wolf when Christian did nothing to them, yet he still attacked him without any signs of hesitation. However, my only option in my case was to wait for them to evacuate the mall. Lashing out my anger and resentment toward him would only put me in a tough spot. My wolf was apparently outnumbered, let alone, they had an alpha with them. I don't stand a chance against him. I believed even miracles would not take my side once I insisted on battling with them. At that time, Christian's survival was my top priority. He needed to survive by all means. I needed him. "You don't need to know about everything for now,

"Christian? Can you hear me? Where are you?" I cried out, ignoring the possibility that someone might hear my screaming. My wolf regretted leaving Christian in his awful condition all by himself in the abandoned house when a lot of things could have happened to him. The worst part of what I did was that I did not even think or feel worried about him while digging for some information on what was happening in the city from those werewolf hunters. Instead, I waited for them to fall asleep before checking out on Christian. And it took my wolf another sunrise to get past them. Now that I could not find him anymore, my preference to live disappeared in the blink of an eye. "Christian, I'm so sorry, dude. I could have stayed by your side. But instead, I left you without even saying a word. Please, forgive me." From soft uttering, my voice turned into wailing as I started having a hard time breathing. Then I dropped my knees on the rocky surface of the ground with th
