I pull Mila in for a hug the minute she walks into the cell. She stiffens in my hold, and I step away from her, frowning.Perhaps she’s not happy to see me?As though she read my mind, she said, “Oh my lady, I’m so happy to see you but please refrain from hugging me”.My frown deepens. “Why? Is it because I’m dirty?”“No, my lady. It’s just that you’re higher than me, and servants don’t hug their mistresses”.“I don’t understand what you’re saying. Aren’t Icelanders superior to wolves?”“You’re correct my lady, but when that wolf has been placed in a position higher than an Icelander, she’s superior.”“Superior or not, we’re friends Mila, and friends hug all the time. I’m going to hug you now, and you’re going to hug me back. Is that clear?”“My lady….”“Is. That. Clear?”She nods. We embrace for a moment, before she pulls away, wiping away a stray tear. “Oh my lady, I’m so happy you’re alive and back. The other concubines have been mean to me, making me do all kinds of work, includin

Cocci shook his head as he watched Crinka follow the concubines to their place. He knew how the night was going to end, having overheard their plans the night before. What they had in mind for the unsuspecting she-wolf was dangerous but Cocci wasn’t going to intervene, nor was he going to let anyone save her, so he locked his brothers in and kept them busy with drinks and women. Next time, she won’t douse his eyes with pepper. Turning on his heel, he walked toward the grand hall where the party was being held.Unknown to Cocci, Sia hadn’t been in the hall, but with Pharix. He ought it good to spend some time with her before partying, and he was going to until he felt something in his gut. Crinka wasn’t okay, so he took Pharix with him to his room. She wasn’t there. He searched the south wing, the east, and the north, but she wasn’t there, so he went back to his wing. Nothing.“She might be at the party my prince”, Pharix said quietly. She hated how he cared for her. She was just a wol

Eloive was quick. He had sensed another presence in the room, disentangled himself from Toreh and covered hr with the duvet but it was too late.Waxlyn had already seen.He quickly staked towards her in long strides, preventing Waxlyn from getting a closer look He should have just locked the door.“Eloive, is that a girl on your bed?”, Waxlyn asked as she stood on her toes, trying to peek over his shoulder but the lad was so tall!“If it is, what does it matter to you?”, Eloive asked angrily. He wasn’t even allowed privacy in his own palace!Waxlyn’s eyes lit up. “So you do have a girl in your room and on your bed! Grandma must hear this!”, Waxlyn exclaimed, dashing for the door. But Eloive was faster. He bounded her in his arms and shoved her away from the door, shutting it.“You…”, he began, catching his breath. “You won’t tell grandma anything!”“And why not? You were with a girl Eloive, and from what I perceive, she’s human too. Don’t tell me you were snogging a maid!”Eloive swor

I froze, staring into Eloive's anguished eyes. His pain cut through me like a knife, and I released my grip on the bottle, letting it fall to the ground. Eloive sank against the wall, sliding down to the floor, his body shaking with sobs."I'm sorry," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I didn't understand."Eloive looked up at me, his tear-streaked face filled with despair. "Nobody does. Nobody cares.""I care, Eloive," I said softly, kneeling down beside him. "I may not be able to change the circumstances, but I promise I'll be there for you. You're not alone."He let out a bitter laugh, wiping his tears with the back of his hand. "What good is it to have someone by my side if I can't be with the one I love? They're forcing me into a loveless marriage, Crinka. They're taking away my freedom, my happiness.""I know it feels like the world is closing in on you right now, Eloive," I said, my heart aching for him. "But we'll find a way. We won't let them destroy your happiness."Eloi

“Are the rumours true?”Eloive turned around to find Waxlyn sitting on his bed. Too engrossed in his thoughts, he hadn’t even heard her come in.“Didn’t know you listened to rumours”, he remarked, popping a grape into his mouth.“Everyone’s talking about it. The maids, the concubines even your stepmothers but I want to hear it from you. Are you getting married?”Eloive sighed. “I’m not getting married Waxlyn”.“But grandpa said…”“Fuck what grandpa said!”, Eloive yelled, dropping a wad of cash into the swear jar that Waxlyn held out for him. “I’m no getting married”.“Why not? I don’t see anything wrong with it. Plus, we haven’t had a wedding in the palace for years now”.“You’re insane. Waxlyn I’m not ripe for marriage. If you want a wedding so badly, then get yourself a husband. You know what? Just leave. You’ve upset me”.“You’re so mean”.“You haven’t seen anything yet. Leave my room now Waxlyn. The next time you want to enter, you better knock”.Waxlyn glared hard at him before l
