CHAPTER 31. The Midnight Pavilion
? “Princess.” His voice caused me to quickly twirl around to look at him. “Rodrick!” I called out enthusiastically, hoping that would distract him from my surprise of seeing him here. After Anne had informed me everything about the Night Show, I found myself curious to experience it myself and by doing so, I would also be spending time with Cassian which ultimately was killing two birds with one stone. Hence, after dinner, I had planned to sneak out and meet with Cassian by the stables as he mentioned earlier but unfortunately for me, Rodrick caught me lurking around at the dead of night. He glanced down at my clothes, where I wore what I would usually wear during training, a plain blouse and a pair of trousers. Naturally, I was also wearing my cloak to hide my identity when we were in public. “What are you doing? Why are you dressed like that?” he asked, brows knitted tightly. “Um…I was about to go to a late night training session.” I pathetically lied, blurting out the

CHAPTER 32. Disappearing Act
? By the looks of the crowd, I was starting to get worried if we won’t make it in time to purchase the tickets to the show but surprisingly, Cassian had two tickets ready for us. The inside of the tent was more spacious than I expected but I was thankful for that fact since I did not have to be squeezed up against the people around me. “Let’s sit over there.” Cassian said as he pointed at a few empty seats at the back. I nodded, ready to follow him but a few children ran in front of me, causing me to stumble backwards so I would not slam into them. A few more people walked in front of me until I was a good distance away from Cassian. I waited patiently for the people in front of me to go to their seats but that was a bad idea as more and more people started to enter and obstruct my view of Cassian. A hand suddenly took hold of mine, causing me to flinch from shock but the person did not let go of my hand. I looked up only to find lovely brown eyes staring back at me. “Hold on

CHAPTER 33. A Day with Isaiah
? “You look horrible, princess.” Gideon said the moment he entered the study. I did not even bother to correct my posture as resting my head on the cool surface of the desk was the most at peace I’ve been as of late. Last night was supposed to be a simple day out with Cassian to a magic show, minus the fact of his sudden reveal that the notorious mercenary group was in charge of the entire show, he even pulled an irritating prank on me and kept insisting that he knew magic throughout our journey home. To make matters worse, he intentionally kept taking the wrong roads to return to the palace. What would have been a half hour ride on horseback back to the palace turned to three hours of us just wandering around aimlessly at the dead of night until Rodrick had to escort us back. Cassian then said that he knew Rodrick was following us from the start and wanted to see how long it would take for him to intervene. I had to particularly force Cordell to come to a halt, jumped off th

CHAPTER 34. Just a Challenge
? “Hey, isn’t that the princess?” “Shit, get dressed quickly! Look presentable in front of the princess.” “Captain! Get dressed! Now!” The guards inside the hall were making a commotion the moment they saw me. I awkwardly stood there, wondering how they could even see me when Isaiah’s large frame was particularly covering me. Isaiah casually held his wooden sword over his shoulder, glaring down at me as usual. “Hello,” I greeted with a charming smile but of course he seemed unbothered by my attempts to be nice to him. “What are you doing here?” he asked. “Oi, don’t talk to the princess like that you scum.” A voice bellowed. I turned to see as the captain of the royal guard made his way towards us. “Captain Evander! Your shirt!” Someone warned him but he was completely ignored. I unconsciously took a step back, feeling as though I should not have come here without prior warning. But I then snapped my attention back to the captain and Isaiah as they glared daggers a

CHAPTER 35. Just a Scratch
In a blink of an eye, things managed to blow out of proportion. What I had in mind to be a friendly challenge turned into some sort of tournament where Isaiah and I were the only competitors. The royal guards were quick to set up everything at the open field under Captain Evander’s orders since he was the most enthusiastic among all of us there. As Isaiah and I waited by the side for the field to be ready, I could not help but to notice a small crowd of guards and other workers of the palace forming around. I glanced over to Isaiah, wondering if we should stop before more people came but my gaze went past him as I noticed two familiar figures in the crowd. “Ugh…” I could not help but groan out my displeasure. Isaiah probably heard the sound that left my mouth and that caused him to look over at where I was looking at. “What the hell are those two doing here?” he spat just as Augustus and Cassian’s eyes fell on us. “What’s happening?” I could hear Cassian ask a guard next to h

CHAPTER 36. Growing Predicament
? Isaiah did not waste any time after that as he came towards me and effortlessly picked me up in a bridal lift, causing the guards to panic at how carelessly he was handling me. I quickly grabbed onto his shirt, afraid that he was going to drop me. “Let’s go.” Isaiah demanded but all I could do was blankly stare at him. Cassian let out a laugh as he clearly was bothered and entertained by this entire ordeal which caused Isaiah to glare daggers at him. “Louse.” He huffed at the auburn haired man as he walked past them and through the crowd. “You don’t have to carry me…” I muttered. “Shut up.” He was quick to say. “…It was not your fault that the bowstring snapped,” I added quickly in case he was silently blaming himself. But then again, I doubt he even cared that I got injured. He was only doing this since there were a lot of witnesses. “What part of shut up do you not understand?” he grumbled. I stayed quiet after that solely because I believe that he would definitely dr

CHAPTER 37. The Debutante
? “I’m willing to help you with the planning of your debutante ball since you are still a dear family member of mine.” Lady Marie smiled politely after dropping the fact that I had an extra hurdle to pass through before I could continue with my wedding plans. Gideon had not said anything which only met that what Lady Marie said was valid. I’ve never heard of anyone in high society who had gotten married before they were officially introduced, engaged yes but not married. I was slowly starting to get irritated at how Gideon and I failed to see that this would have been made into a big issue if Lady Marie had not told me. “There is no need for that, Lady Marie.” I looked up only to stop my mother. “If anyone should help my daughter plan her debutante ball, then it would be me.” “Mother…” “Oh, Lady Isabella, I mean no offence! I was merely offering Cordelia my support.” “Support? Do you think that to be strange after you had openly stood against her and her claim to the thro

CHAPTER 38. Morning Nerves
? “Ugh, I feel nauseous.” I mumbled as I took hold of the chair nearby to support me. “But we haven’t even put the corset on yet, princess!” Anne nagged. It was the morning of the party and Anne had woken me up incredibly early to get ready. She brought along a few other maids to help me bathe, to do my makeup and hair and to help me get dressed but the nerves were getting to me and they had only managed to dress me in my innerwear before I started to feel sick. One of the young maids came rushing towards me with some warm tea. “Drink this, princess. It will help calm you down.” “Thank you…” I muttered as I reached out for the cup. I slowly drank the tea as my eyes went over to Anne who was approaching us with a corset in her hands. “Could we skip that for now…the party only starts in the evening after all.” “And your guests will be arriving soon! You need to look elegant and beautiful for them.” “Ugh…please don’t remind me.” I groaned at the thought of meeting and ente

CHAPTER 39. High Society
? “It’s good to finally meet you, Princess Cordelia.” “You are as beautiful as they say.” “You have your father’s eyes.” These were the common phrases I kept hearing the members of royalty and noblemen repeatedly said when I went over to greet them. Once the guests started coming, there was no stop to the constant smiles I had to offer and all the names I had to remember. Occasionally I would find myself looking around the crowd to spot my alphas. Augustus was nowhere to be found and after a while I had to send Anne to go look for him just to find out where he went. I understand that Augustus was not very fond of social events like this but the fact that he could easily get away like this was making me envious as I wanted to run and hide away from these prying eyes as well. Cassian and Isaiah on the other hand were incredibly social which made sense since they were used to these kinds of events. I even caught a glimpse of Lady Marie and her children walking and chattering

CHAPTER 40. Meeting the Royals??
? “It’s an honour to meet you, Princess Cordelia.” Yara Hassan said with a beautiful smile. She was the wife of the later emperor of the Eastern Kingdom and Isaiah’s sister-in-law. Her olive skin and dark eyes were indeed exquisite, causing me to forget myself for a second before I greeted her back with a smile “You resemble the evening sky after a devastating storm.” “Oh…” I glanced at Isaiah who stood next to me, who seemed to not be paying attention to the conversation. “T-Thank you.” I said quickly. “What Her Majesty meant is that you look incredibly beautiful tonight.” The tall man next to Yara said with a subtle bow. He had introduced himself as Nasir, closest confidant to Isaiah and the royal family and also the man who Isaiah entrusted to help Yara with running the kingdom in his absence. “When Isaiah told me that he was to be wed, I thought that he had completely lost his mind.” She bluntly said. “But now that I see you for myself, I understand why he agreed to be wi
