Excellent read, a nice and different storyline. Assuming english is not the authors first language as some errors here and there but does not take away from the reading experience. Looking forward to another book from the author!

CHAPTER 1. Prologue
I remember my first love fondly due to how he had hair as dark as a starless sky. Although I cannot remember his name nor his face, I can always remember his hair whenever I look up at the night sky even after all these years.? As a child, I was always so weak and sick that I hardly left my room. All I had to keep me company was my lady in waiting, Anne, the royal doctor, my many tutors and towers upon towers of books. Occasionally my mother and brother would visit me but I understood that they had other duties to attend to besides looking after me.? While my brothers and sisters grew up learning and experiencing many things, I was endlessly stuck in the confines of my room until one day I decided to let my curiosity get the better of me.? Sneaking out of the room was easier than I initially thought. I would like to believe that it was due to my tiny stature that made it possible for me to avoid the roaming guards’ attention but I should have known that I would get lost almost

CHAPTER 2. Family Dinner ?
The dining hall is silent other than the soft clanking of silverware against the ceramic plates. Father sat at the head of the table, gaze fixed upon his dinner while his second wife, Lady Marie and her three children, Frederick, Elina and Lilian sat by the left side of the table. On his right side was where my mother, Isabelle and my brother, Aiden sat.? “Are you not going in, Your Highness?” the guard who stood by the partially opened door questioned.? I was once again late for dinner, after losing track of time when I was studying earlier. Usually I would get Anne, my lady-in-waiting to fetch me my dinner to eat in my room but today, I decided that I should at least show my face to my family as a courtesy. But how could I possibly enter the dining hall now when they had already started eating.? “Well …” I started. “Cordelia.” a voice from the other side of the door called out. The guard gave me an apologetic look before pulling the door wide open. I stood there awkwardly,

CHAPTER 3. First Heat
I could feel the drops of sweat trailing down to my chin as it dripped to the ground. I took in deep breaths in hope to fix my uneven breathing while the grip on the wooden sword tightened, my stance wide and ready for whenever Rodrick decided to charge towards me. My body felt feverish and I was silently wondering if I had pushed myself too hard during practice.? “What are you waiting for, Princess?” Rodrick asked as he slowly moved to the side, eyes not leaving mine. He could clearly see my hesitation.? “You sure like to talk a lot during practice,” I rebuttal, hoping that my taunting would make me come to me instead but I should have known that Rodrick would not be fazed by such a remark.? “That is only because there is so much to talk about,” he beamed. “Such as the lovely weather we are having or the—” I did not wait for him to finish talking as I pushed myself to lunge? towards him which he predicted easily when our wooden swords collided with a loud thud. The sounds of

CHAPTER 4. Sudden Change
The bickering between the families started almost instantly. Their voices drowned out as I did not want to listen to anything anymore. I wanted to run away from this room, from this palace, from everything but reality snapped me back when father stood up from his throne.? All eyes were now on him, anticipating what he was going to say, what he was going to do and yet for a long second all he did was continue to stare into my eyes. His crystal blue eyes pierced into me as though he knew all my deepest and darkest secrets. As though he knew that I would rather run away from my troubles than face them straight on.? He then started to walk, slowly making his way down the short steps until he was approaching where I was standing. Never once did I look away from him even though I could feel my hands trembling, even when I could feel my heart threatening to escape. But the moment he walked past me, I felt my heart sank.? “Father…what are we going to do about Cordelia?” Frederick asked

CHAPTER 5. Dead Rumours
His large hand held mine as we stared out at the distance, where the sun was setting and the sky was painted with hues or orange and purples. He did not speak for the longest time, only gazing out in the horizon as though he was deep in thought. I found his hand to be warm, so incredibly warm even when everything else about him was cold and distant.? My father, the emperor of the Southern Kingdom, was often praised for his courage and sense of justice and yet it was hard for me to think of a time where he truly showed any interest with his own family other than for the times he needed us to prove ourselves worthy to him. Whether it be excelling in smarts, brawns or other talent and even then, all we got for an approval was a mere nod. “You are strong, Cordelia.” His voice called out, sounding unfamiliar and foreign to me. “The fact that you climbed this hill with me despite your illness, only means that you have the heart of a warrior.” A small smile appeared on his face but ma

CHAPTER 6. The Next Heir?
The sobs and wails of my mother, Lady Marie and her daughters could be heard echoing through the halls as we got to say our final goodbyes to my father. I walked over the coffin where my father was with heavy footsteps, the fragrant scent of white lilies filled my senses. I looked down at my father, his face peaceful as though he was merely asleep surrounded by beautifully bloomed white lilies, our family’s emblem. I stared at his face for a long moment, somewhat trying to make sense of it all. Not only did the rumours from earlier start to get to my head but the handful of good memories I had shared with my father was flooding through my thoughts as my vision of him started to blur. Tears were quick to flow, my throat tightening painfully as though I would feel better if I yelled out, if I just told everything I always wanted too but never got the chance to him. A firm hand was wrapped around my shoulder, strong fingers giving me a reassuring squeeze. I glanced over only to see

CHAPTER 7. Disagreement
“Your Majesty,” Gideon greeted indifferently. “Is it true?” Lady Marie asked. “I beg your pardon?” “Do not play dumb with me, Gideon. Is it true that the late emperor has chosen the next heir in his will?” “What?” I gawked, looking between Lady Marie’s agitated expression and Gideon’s composed one. “Yes. It is true.” He admitted. “That is absurd! Frederick is the oldest son hence making him the next in line for the throne!” she yelled. “Mother!” Frederick called out as he rushed over to where we were standing. “I understand that, Your Majesty but-” Gideon was interrupted when Elina and Lilian joined in the conversation. “Just open it and tell us whose name father has written in his will. It is most likely going to be Frederick anyway.” Lilian confidently announced with a flick of her luscious hazel hair. “That’s true. Everyone is already here after all. Just read it now.” Elina chimed in, crossing her arms over her chest. If Gideon was getting annoyed with how t

CHAPTER 8. The Proposition
“I-” I started but he stopped me from saying another word by holding out his hand authoritatively. “Or perhaps I should ask, do you even know the first thing about being an emperor of a country? You have spent your childhood bedridden. You are only learning the thing my sisters and I had to learn when we were children. You have not even been introduced to high society yet because you only recently found out that you are an omega born in a family of powerful alphas! Not only are you a disgrace to the Renaldi name but you are miles behind us hence you are unfit to rule.” The silence in the room was so jarring that I was able to hear my own rapid heartbeat echoing in my ear. I blinked once, unable to disagree with him because everything he said was the truth. And yet, I could feel a strange anger building up in the pits of my stomach, churning painfully and threatening to escape. It was as though something had snapped inside me, something that took years to build up was now crumbl

CHAPTER 9. Crowned Omega
? “Princess.” His familiar voice made me let out a soft sigh of relief. “I would like to be left alone, please, Gideon.” I said, turning my back to him so that he would not see me clenching my chest as the adrenaline died down slowly. “I am sorry, Your Highness but I cannot do that. Not now, that is.” I sighed once more and turned to properly face Gideon. “What is it? Are you here to tell me to go against my father’s wishes?” “No. You must know that I am and will forever be loyal to your father. I have a duty to him to fulfil his wishes just as you do and if that is to fight for you to get on the throne, then so be it.” “Gideon…you of all people must know that this will not end well for me. I do not have support from the noblemen like my siblings do. And being an omega…” My words trailed off as I realised that I was starting to sound like them, those who belittled me and looked past my worth because of my second gender. I clenched my hands onto the thick fabric of my dr

CHAPTER 10. Prioritises
? I felt faint, unable to figure out whether it was due to the corset I was wearing tightening around my waist as I inhaled sharply or the fact that the adrenaline rush from earlier was finally catching up to me. I plopped down on my bed in a rather unladylike manner, face buried into the soft pillow. I opened my mouth and screamed out my frustration, grateful that my voice was muffled by the pillow. “P-Princess…” Anne called out hesitatingly. For a moment, I had forgotten that she rushed to my room behind me when I had left the council room in a hurry. I pushed myself up into a seated position and turned to Anne. She stood a good distance from my bed, fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. Her eyes kept flickering to mine and away, unsure if she should even look at me when I was throwing away every etiquette lesson down the gutter. “I apologise that you had to see me in such an unbecoming manner, Anne.” I said in a soft voice, pretending that I was better now when my head was
