MELIA POV I wasn’t able to get much sleep last night, but for the first time in a while, I was content as I watched Roxie get a decent night's rest. She was very restless and had some nightmares that she couldn’t seem to shake, but at least she was in a comfortable bed, next to a warm body, and not afraid of dying for at least one night. I was hoping it would give her the strength she needed to make it through until we could escape. I was dreading the sunrise to rear her ugly face this morning because I knew what it meant for Roxie. We stayed up half the night trying to come up with a plan, but without knowing what held our magic at bay, it was impossible to escape. There were several outside structures with doors, and if we could get to one of them, we would be able to get to the chrysoprase cabin, but what if the magic barrier extended over the length of the property and not just the house itself? How far could we actually get before they were able to capture us again? If I could ju

POV ALPHA AUGUST I hadn’t spoken to Alejandra Osorio for over two decades. I had saved her and her child from being enslaved by Tiberius the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack when my dad was still the Alpha and I was an elite warrior. Tiberius was encroaching on our land during pack runs which was fine until he started having guards kidnapped and ransomed for our pack's land and resources. Instead of giving into his demands we invaded his territory, rescued our pack members, gave hundreds of enslaved members of his pack asylum and we even claimed a decent chunk of his land as a fee for all the lives we lost while in conflict with him. I still wish we would have overthrown his rule, taking all his resources and saving all his pack members but since I wasn't the Alpha it wasn't my decision to make. He hasn't made any moves against our pack since I have become Alpha so I haven't gotten my chance to kill the bastard for all the pain and suffering he had caused. Tiberius has been a terrible

ALPHA AUGUST POVIt didn’t take Alejandra any time at all to start looking for my daughter. Why hadn’t I come to her sooner? If anything had happened to Melia, it would all be on me.I shook my head, trying to shake loose all the unhelpful thoughts and focus on the task at hand.“Do you have a clear picture of her face that we can use?” She asked, clicking her phone shut.I must have drifted because I didn’t hear any of her phone conversation.“Yes, of course. Here is the only picture I have of them. It was shortly after they had arrived at the pack house. The girls talked me into getting ice cream after Sunday dinner, just the three of us.She raised her eyebrows with a questioning look but said nothing as she scrolled through the few pictures I had of my girls.“Do you want to talk about it?”“There isn’t much to talk about. The wolf and witch counsel couldn’t know that a soon-to-be Alpha and a High Priestess procreated, so our parents covered it up. Their mother raised them for the

ALPHA AUGUST POV It has been two months since we rescued Melia, but nothing has been the same. Athena was finally able to turn back into human form, but with any stress or anger, she was still shifting without control. Instead of keeping her locked in the bunker, I packed her and the girls up and moved us all down to my parent’s ranch temporarily. Lenny and Elenior are here with us. Thomas is taking care of things at the pack until we get back. I knew this wasn’t a permanent fix, but it was the best I could think of at the time. Emse and Baine weren’t too happy about the arrangement, but they had no clue what to do with Athena and her wolf. There was plenty of forest on the 100,000 acres of property my family owned for my girls to run themselves tired. Lenny and I kept close by so we could steer them away from any of the little towns or other rancher’s property they might have gotten a little too close to while they let their wolf run.Maisie still didn’t show any signs of having a w

MELIA POVI can hear my mom's voice when I open the screen door and step onto the porch, so I took off down the steps to find her. I want to ask her if she needs me to help her or Maggie this morning before I find something to get into with Aunt Sarah. When I round the big barn, I couldn't help but overhear what Alpha August was saying to my mother. "I have never heard of a wolf shifter losing their wolf and if she would start learning the ways of the pack and the duties she will have to fulfill maybe she could relax enough for her wolf to regain the strength she needs to come back. But if she doesn't get her shit together, I'm going to have no choice but to give the position to one of her sisters. I know that Maisie has really been invested in the politics and laws since David has been letting her intern, but Margot is the one showing all the potential leadership abilities. With her condition, I wasn't sure how possible it would be for her to step up, but she is improving every day,
