The next morning, I was dragging my bags behind me as I went outside. Noah had called yesterday to tell me that he had booked a nice getaway place, but I had asked him to keep it a secret for me to add to the suspense. I went outside, struggling to drag the gigantic bags I had brought along with me. I don’t even know why I brought them when I was sure I was going to be indoors most of the time. However, it was better to come prepared for anything that might happen. Who knows? I could meet the love of my life there, and we may decide to wed there. The black Hyundai was parked in front of my house, and I came out, wearing a cute little sundress and huge sunglasses on my eyes, shielding myself from the fact that I had been crying myself to sleep yesterday. “Miss Ruby?” The driver smiled as he opened the door for me, and I reciprocate the gesture. It felt so weird to smile with all the turmoil going on in my life, but I had to be polite. I entered the vehicle, and it was smooth sailin

My heart skipped a bit as Jeremy said the words, and no, it wasn’t the good type. Whenever I hear the words ‘we need to talk’ it never really ends well, and I don’t know what direction this one was going to take, but I hope it was for good.I entered his office with him, nodding to his secretary before we entered the main office.I carried out a sweeping cheek on the expanse of space, noting a lot of changes since I was here. Now I was feeling like a bad friend; I couldn’t even recall when I last went to his office. He had added more picture frames of himself on the wall, and I must say, he looked good in all of them. He had also changed the color of the wall from all white to a shade of peach.I mean, it wasn’t really an office color, but to each their own. There were so many new changes that I was still trying to wrap my head around when all this happened.I was just cooped up in my little world, oblivious to everything around me, and right now it was costing my friends and relation

My eyes narrowed at the cheap impersonation of me, not at all impressed by what I was seeing. “Who are you?” I tried to keep the irritation out of my voice, but it was almost impossible. Her gaze was on me, and she was staring at me with an open mouth, twisting a lock in her hand. Was she dumb? What was so hard to comprehend in the question that I asked that she was taking hours to answer?“Are you deaf, or can’t you respond?" I barked, but I regretted it almost immediately because my forehead flared in pain.I massaged my forehead with my finger, trying to soothe the pain. I was sure she was the one adding to it, because there was no way someone was this dumb. She took one look at me, her pupil widening a bit as she connected the dot, and she was looking back into the room.“Alex? There is a strange woman at the door.” Her voice was shrill and annoying. It was quite similar to those girls that play high school bitches, and it was giving me a major headache. My anger faded into disapp

It has been a week since I left with my shame and ruined dignity as I fled for Alex’s house. The week had easily been the most tiresome one; the project was still running, and every day after work, I took a drive there to see how far it was coming along.I mean, I shouldn't be doing this; I have a project manager and other people in charge, but it was my work. I wanted to make sure everything went well without a hitch. And maybe to pass the time, these days have been seeming too boring for me, and I needed something to divert my attention to.Some days, I meet Jeremy there doing the same thing I came to do, and we exchange pleasantries. Although I am not sure I could call it that, it was anything but pleasant.I would tell him hello, and he would just nod at me. Geez! That was so infuriating. What happened to talking? I am not an agama lizard; you feel the need to nod in response to each greeting. The reason I was more pained was because I knew how we were before, so it only ached my

Come Monday morning the next week, I was ready to start initiating my plans, but first I needed to get through Jeremy. He was the only stumbling block that was holding me back from knocking some blocks from Alex’s high tower.Jeremy was still my partner and friend, and even though we were currently going through a rough patch and we weren’t exactly on talking terms, I still needed him to be on board, and I knew just how to do it.The first thing I did was drive to the same jewelry shop where I had gotten a gift for Charles. Jeremy had always been crazy about one Audemars Piguet wristwatch, and it should be the perfect icebreaker.I had checked the amount online prior to my arrival, and Lord, the gasp I let out. I had broken into a loud cough, almost coughing my lungs out. But I had to do it; if I wanted our friendship to continue, I should be ready to go the extra length."Hello, miss.” The lady behind the counter greeted me with a cheerful smile, and I melted as I saw it. I recognized
