By the time they stepped out of the house, the sun was already fully gone down and darkness was beginning to creep around. Axel drove them to the ring shop and she was kind of impressed at the brand name he brought her until she remembered that he was truly a big shot around there. The sales rep packed up the ring and escorted both of them out of the shop. As soon as they were outside, Axel turned to Vida. Axel got home, and all he could think about was lying in bed, but he met his mom and sister in the living room. He was happy to see them, but he did not have the mental capacity to talk to them now. He could not turn them away, so he welcomed them after seeing that they had served themselves whatever they could find in the refrigerator."Where have you been? Vida had no idea how she had gotten to the hospital. She stood in the room where her father had been just a few minutes ago, alive and well, but now he was gone. She felt a pang of regret fill her mind; she never thought that the last time she saw him was going to be the last. She had procrastinated going to see him all day because she believed he would be there by the next morning, when she wanted to see him.The doctor stood in front of her with Axel by her side. She looked at him, and all she could hear, even though he seemed to be saying a lot, was a loud ringing in her ears. Vida was now learning to rely on Axel and that made him glad; maybe things would be different for them going on. John's lawyer came because he had to read the will. Although Vida did not understand what was there to read, since she was the only child of her father, shouldn't she just inherit everything he had without having to think too much about it?After all of the formalities with the lawyer, he announced that there was a latest revision to the will from about two weeks ago. Vida had hated that she had to play the happy couple wuth Axel but if she had to get her plan of exposing him rolling, then she thought that this was a very small price to be paid. Vida pulled away from Axel the minute the slow dance was over. She wanted to return to the bar and just watch from a distance but was intercepted by a girl with a bubbly personality. She had a huge smile on her face, and Vida wished she would reciprocate, but she couldn't, so she gave her a half-arsed smile."Finally, I get to meet you," the girl said, and Vida frowned. She was not that popular, as people only truly heard about her because of the wedding. Vida was awoken the next morning by Maria hurriedly coming into her room to give her 'good news', although she would not really classify it as that because, to her, she did not care if it was good to every other person. The news about their engagement made it to the first page of both business papers and lifestyle magazines. Her mind was beginning to grasp just how important Axel was, and if he was that important, why did he choose her? Was there something they had as a family that he had his eyes on? She wondered but did not say it to her nanny because she knew the woman would scold her for being harsh on him."Isn't this just wonderful?" Vida stayed by the grave, and even though she did not keep track of time, she knew it had been a while. She ranted, bearing her heart to her father. After a while, she was frustrated that he was not going to be able to respond, so she dusted off his grave and stood up to leave. She dusted herself and stretched after sitting on the floor for too long before making her way through the other graves at the site back to her car.She slowed down when she saw Axel at her car. She did not need glasses to know he was the one, even though she could barely distinguish his face from such a distance.
