The morning light shines in through the crack in the dark green curtains that cover the bay window in Riley's room. It stirs Riley from her deep sleep, where she lays on her stomach on top of her queen size bed with her duvet tossed to the foot of the bed in a heaping mess. Her long, brown, naturally wavy hair flows in different directions as she peeks and shields her eyes from the sun. She had been dreaming of her 20th birthday that was coming up, which would signify her spot in the pack, and the first time she were to shift. "Riley! It's time to get up! We leave in 20 minutes," her dad yells at her door as he walks down the hall to start breakfast. Riley groans as she rolls onto her back. Today is Valentines Day, the day of love, and another reminder that she just broke up with her ex Nathan about 2 months ago. So, there is no love for her in the relationship department at the moment. However, she still crafted a couple of Valentines Day cards for her best friends, Lily and Ol

The past week flew by quickly. Riley kept her head down and worked hard on her studies. Dad agreed to her going out tonight as long as she kept focused. She had to let him know who she was going out with because word got out quickly about her date with Ethan last week. If she didn't tell dad about it, he probably would have heard from someone at the office. He was excited for her, though. Dates with a future leader and the possible life it could mean for her if they were meant for each other. There was still always doubt in Rileys mind, though, but why not have some fun while she still could. All week long, she hardly had time to hang out with Lily and Ollie. She felt bad, but Ethan kept catching her at any spare time he had. Before school, in between classes, lunch, and all they did was talk. She couldn't believe the connection they had straight away and how much in common they had. She hadn't felt a crush like this in a long time. Every time he would brush his hand against her th

Beep, beep, beep... Riley hit the snooze button on her phone. Five minutes later, the same annoying alarm sounded, and this time, she didn't ignore it. It was 6 A.M. and she knew she needed to shower and get ready for her breakfast date with Ethan. As she got out of bed and headed towards the bathroom, she heard her phone vibrate, so she ran over and grabbed it to see, "Good morning, beautiful. Meet me at the diner in town for 8?". She beamed and replied with a "heart emoji, see you then," text right back. She placed her phone back down and grabbed her towel, heading for the shower. Once done, she went into her closet to find the perfect date outfit. She wanted to look effortlessly cozy, so she grabbed a beige knitted sweater and a pair of black tights, paired it with brown knee-high boots. Riley was ready to take off. She had put her wet hair neatly into a braid down her back and grabbed her keys and phone before heading out the door. It was 7:30, and everyone in the house was sti

School seemed to drag on all day. Everyone was super nice and wished her a happy birthday. It was probably because it seemed like everyone within the pack was invited tonight. Riley didn't mind, though. Tonight was going to be the best night of her life. She hadn't seen Ethan at all and was disappointed. So, she focused her energy on her classes and getting through the day. Once the final bell rang, she took off in the direction of home. When she arrived, she found a box outside the front door addressed to her. Riley grabbed it and rushed up to her room to open it. She sat on the floor at the edge of her bed and opened the box. Inside was a beautiful strapless emerald green cocktail dress. It was short, reaching about mid thigh, but flared out at the waist. It was tight around the top and had a sweetheart neckline. It was embellished with gold and light green designs resembling foliage and leaves like in a forest. Riley stood with the dress pressed against her body and swung it arou

Since Riley was doing well in school, she had no problem with taking the day off. She hadn't been sleeping well. She felt tired and paranoid when she should have felt energized and excited. The last two nights, she even felt like there was someone watching her from a distance. She would look outside , peaking from behind her blinds, but couldn't tell where they were hiding. She would toss and turn all night dreaming of nothing but an endless void. Even Ava didn't want to come out and talk. Was there something wrong with her wolf? This was not what she pictured. The last two days, she would get up, get ready, and head to school with only a couple minutes to spare. This left no room for socializing. She barely saw Ethan or Lily, except for at lunch, where she suppressed her feelings deep down and faked it. She would then leave as soon as the final bell rang and run home. Her phone kept going off with texts from Ethan and Lily, laced with concern, even if they didn't mention anything
